Martin SP Flexible Core strings have a thin, but strong core wire and a thicker wrap wire, which allows them to be flexible and easy on the fingers while holding standard tension. SP Flexible Core strings feel soft to the touch, making them ideal for beginners. But don't be fooled by comfort! Just ask Tommy Emmanuel, who performs with Martin's SP Flexible Core strings night after night. With SP Flexible Core, you get total flexibility and total control.

I have used Martin Phosphor Bronze strings for many years, but this is my first experience with their FX line. I tried a set of Martins FX Phosphor Bronze Custom Light strings on my D-41 guitar. These strings supply the steely tone and rich overtones/harmonics I expect from a set of strings. I have five extra sets of Martin SP Bronze Lights, and I guess I will have to sell them, because for my ear, these FX strings are much better, up to what I expect from a phosphor-bronze string. I tend to hit my strings pretty hard and so far they have held up well.

.Just strung up my Taylor 110E with a set of these for the first time. As I expected, the tone is deep and rich when new like most PB strings. But I was really looking for the flexibility that Martin advertised and found it to be exactly as stated. Bar chords, bends and overall playability are much improved with this set compared to standard sets. Haven't had the strings on long enough to know the lifespan and I'm used to Elixir so I doubt these will outlast those. However, I will definitely keep at least one guitar strung with a set of these just for practice if nothing else. No sore fingers or difficult chord transitions with these. I prefer a little brighter sound so I just pick a little closer to the bridge with 'em. Glad I tried them, will definitely be using them long term. It's a bit of a hybrid set that's not for everyone, but for steel string acoustic ease of play they can't be beat.

.I have played guitar for 45+ years, now retired, with a home recording studio. I have trouble with the basil joint at the base of my thumb in my left hand and these strings make it so much easier to play. They sound great recording, nice & full, but not as bright as regular PB strings, but also less of that annoying squeak!

.The initial tone was great. I used them once during practice before a gig (so they were stretched) and during the gig I broke FOUR strings -- the A, G and not one, but TWO D stings. Unbelievable. I am going back to D'Addarios. I have only broken one D'Addario string in the past 18 months (I change them about once a month depending on schedule). I am not sure why I switched. Probably the "there is always something better" thinking.

.This is my 3rd set trying these strings. All 3 sets have been rusty. Custom Guitar's Friend has been exceptional in trying to resolve this issue with me to my satisfaction. Thank You Custom Guitar's Friend. I'm going back to D'Addario or Martin Lifespan.

.The Martin FX strings seem to be somewhat louder with more clarity than other brands I have used in the past. They stay in tune very well.

.If you are a electric player and use your acoustic on occasion, these are for you.Every day players should use Martin's Life Span. These should also benefit novice players, very easy on fingers.

.I know there is no such thing as the perfect string but I have settled in on these as they sound great on my Martin and they really easy on the fingers. I probably play electric about 80% and acoustic guitar 20% and it never seems like a big adjustment to play with these strings
