Compound Curve Top Design
The guitar top is the part of the instrument that most affects the sound. It is also the most delicate part of any high quality acoustic guitar. The grade and thickness of the wood used (solid spruce), as well as the bracing structure, have a huge impact on the instrument's sound. The idea of applying an arch or a curve to the top is appealing because the added strength of an arched top should allow for the use of a thinner and more lightly braced top. While this is true, there remains a trade-off in applying a curve to the entire top. The most active part of the top is the area centered on the bridge. Applying a curve to this part of the top restricts movement resulting in a loss of dynamic range. On the other hand, the area of the top above the sound hole moves minimally but is problematic because it tends to sink if the guitar dries out even slightly. This tendency is also encouraged by downward pressure from the fingerboard resting on top of it. The solution is a top that has a compound curve.
In the Seagull Performer's design the top is arched slightly in the area above the sound hole and levels out in the area around the bridge. The compound curve top produces excellent stability in the upper part of the guitar top and the power and projection made possible by leaving the top flat below the sound hole flat. With the weak area above the sound hole stabilized, it is possible to make the rest of the top even more active with a new bracing design that allows unprecedented control over the top vibration. The bracing for the Seagull Performer Cutaway Flame Maple High-Gloss QI Guitar is quarter-sawn spruce, scalloped and carved to conform exactly to the curvature of the tops.

This is my 3rd Seagull. I have an S6 and an S12, both cedar tops. Love them and play constantly. Wanted a spruce top for the brighter sound and was looking at Breedloves. Played a Martin D-18 at the store and then my eye went to this Seagull Performer series spruce top flame maple cutaway. It was love at first sight and played every bit as well, if not better than the D-18. Seagulls secret is getting out as I see more and more around but you just can't beat the value and the quality of these guitars. I doubt they will ever be an hierloom to pass on to my kids like my dad's Gibson LD0 but who know's. I know my daughters boyfriend loves to play them when he comes over. Only time will tell but the S-6 I have i've had for about 7 years now and it keeps getting better and better sounding although the cedar top is soft and has a lot of wear morks on it. But that just adds character. You can't go wrong with Seagull!Seagull Performer Cutaway Flame Maple High Gloss QI Acoustic-Electric Guitar Natural
.I first bought a Seagull entourage with the QI pickup system, sounded great but the cedar top didn't suit my playing. Bit of a wider neck on the performer, but same satin-finished touch and very easy to get used to. The finish is outstanding, workmanship is stellar. Great punch and well balanced sound, bright enough to cut through but not lacking on bottom end. 4 for features because the QII would have been nicer to see, but definitely a 5 for value! Beautiful if not quite perfect sound that really does rival some guitars at twice the price, and the included gig bag is quality--though I'd still get a hardshell if you gig a lot. For the price, it's a no-brainer!

. I have tried several different manufactures and very few even come close to this guitar. The looks and plaability out of the box was the best of any of them. The finish is flawless the neck is very comfortable and the action is right on for finger style playing. I really like the 1.8" nut width. All around fine guitar. Plus Custom Guitars Friend took care of me as usual.
Nice finish, neck feel comfortable out of the box, preamp is clear and tuner seems acurate.
It's hard to find a guitar that plays, looks and sounds this good. Everything works very well.
I compare this guitar to other manufactures for twice the price and more. At this price you will have a hard time beating it.

.An amazing guitar for the price you pay, and honestly I would not even trade it for a taylor. the seagull guitars are known to have more treble so if your playin in a band, it cuts right through.

.Everyone always says you pick up a guitar and know when its yours. This guitar made me believe it. I learned on a seagull s6 over 10 years ago and have been playing on a Takamine Eg523sc (one of the original/good ones) as my go to for the last 8 years. One chord on the Performer and I was backpedaling. I put it down instantly and told my bass player that was my guitar laughed and walked away. A week later after going in to pick up my seagull coastline s12 cedar from being adjusted and restrung I walked out of there with a change of plans and my new performer. Phenomenal. The low end is fantastic with singing mids and perfect highs. I told myself my next acoustic would be a Gibson Hummingbird Pro cutaway but like I said things change. My rule of thumb is never check the price tag before you play a guitar and I was shocked when I saw this one. What a steal. If you're debating about this guitar you haven't played it. Forget the Beautiful blonde finish and beatiful contrasting Rosewood neck. This guitar is right there with the Gibson, Martin, Chaylors and Breedloves in the 1500-2500 range.
P.S: All the reviews on this guitar aren't short for a reason.

.I bought this guitar after having owned an Art and Lutherie years ago. I play a lot of fingerpick style, and some chords. The strings have a very unique firmness to them. The amount of tone and different sounds you can pull out of this guitar is incredible. I have NO complaints and would recommend it to anyone.
The built quality is perfect....zero flaws, and its a solid build by design. This one is staying put!

.Solid and well built. Crisp sound and even volume all up and down fret board. Excellent mid to high projection. You can hear each note in a chord.Satin feel to neck. Good electronics with unique and attractive gold metal plate. All in a beautiful package from a good North American company. Paired with a Marshall AS50d this is heavenly. Included case is above average. Padding is thicker and harder than most. Two outside pockets. The large one has room for paper/music and has pen and card holders. Shoulder straps, padded handle and top strap with a reflector.

.Alert. Lower strap button is wide due to electric cable post. Don't expect to use just any strap. There is a specific locking strap that apparently works. Or there is an inexpensive device to use with existing strap holes, available online, which also locks well. Or you can have a technician put another end button on the guitar.
