Peavey hits a grand slam homerun with the Valveking II Micro all tube head. This amp will unquestioningly become the king of all lunch box sized amplifiers. Visually perfect in every way with aged white mini chicken knobs and aged white piping on really cool shade of black textured tolex. The way the piping surrounds the brand name plate resembles a Marshall. The control knobs are well placed and easy to use.I am a huge peavey amp fan. I have the original Valveking 100 watt head(might have to replace it with the new VK II) and I have a vintage Classic 50 head also with el84 power tube section. When I saw the micro head I suspected I needed one. When I read the specs I knew I needed this amp knowing it would deliver the same lush rich tube warmth as the Classic 50 head while providing direct connectivity to your fave DAW, mixer or recording console.
Valveking II Microhead provides the standard amp features not found on other lunchbox sized amps like fx loop, the class a or a/b switch, 2 channels, reverb, a bright switch, boost switch, master volume knob, 3 band eq and a stand by switch. It even accommodates 2 peavey foot switches for channel switch / boost on and fx loop on / reverb on.
Valveking II Microhead also has a power switch for 20 watt, 5 watt (buh bye class 5), and 1 watt. Use the speaker defeat and headphone jack so you can have all the clean or saturated tube warmth and practice any hour any place. The amp drives speaker cabs providing as much tone as the Classic, eggnater or fender heads. The amp sounds excellent with each cab I've tried, Eggnater Tour Master 2 x 12, Peavey Classic 4x10 extension cab. I also ran directly to a powered Yamaha EMX-5000 mixer and it sounded fantastic through the house.
At 14 pounds this will certainly become the small venue amp of choice. The perfect travel buddy for your next jam or band practice. All Tube, all the features, no weight, direct connectivity to anything that supports a USP port, a speaker cab or mixing console or DAW.
Seriously super happy I have one of these. A 50 watt el84 head version would make me even happier. Get one. If I could only have one amp or were shopping for my first tube amp, this would be the one I would choose.
The next product I want is this amp with a tremolo and vibrato circuit. Now that would be Peavey Nirvana.
Then I want it in all the flavors, 6L6, EL34, 6V6, and EL84, and even better one amp all those power tubes and a switch to select between or blend them.

.Good clean headroom. Vari-Class works well to shift into vintage. Gain boost works as a third usable sound in the realm of Soldano or Diamond. The direct out is voiced very well to the board.
However, since tone stack wiring effects voice more, do not expect to dial in British or American voices. This sounds like a Peavey. No shift in midrange to dial in voicings.
Single output means you have to daisy chain cabs if you want to use it as a head and not all cabs can do this.
The tube display is nice but ineffectual because while this is FIXED biased it is NOT CATHODE biased. This means it did need to get opened and biased when tubes started to fade and had to go to the amp tech (no plug'n'play tube swaps on the road).
Power shift is attenuated, not pentode/triode. Affects volume only which is nice but does not offer tonal variation which would have been opened up more feel.
This is very much a studio or home amp. Not really for the road, and do not expect to dial in different voicings. But if you like that Peavey tone (Think of Classic 50 or Bandit with more life) then this will certainly make it easy for you to use in the studio or at home.

.Just thought I would update my review. Not two days after rating this head so highly - after about twenty minutes of playing the tube condition lights would start to turn partially red then totally red and the sound/volume would drop to nothing. Manual and Peavey customer service think it could be the bias or bad tubes. It was only a few days old, and this is happening? (It was dimed out, internal speaker load, going to PA). Man while it was working it was cool, but I decided to return it because quality and reliability are important. I was surprised Peavey customer service didin't offer to at least send some new tubes. Oh well, that was my first and last Peavey. I guess I might buy a used one knowing its on me to get it working, just don't think a new unit should have ANY problems. Keep Rocking!

.I wasn't realy aware Peavey had started making these but I am so glad I bought one. I guess they have been on the market about 2 years now. I have the Marshal 5 watt-never did like the sound. I have the Blackheart 7 watt and that does sound good. I have the Carvin V3 Micro which also sounds good. But as most all tone junkies, I am always on the tone search eternal. Well this little Peavey is it! The 1 watt setting is great for bedroom jamming. But on the 20 watt setting it really sings. What I really find odd is that I really like playing it through the PA without a speaker. I have Celestion cabs, Webers, and Emminence but to my amazement it sounds great going straight to the PA. I can dime it out and the speaker emulated line out just sounds great to me. Put a tube screamer with some reverb and delay and I'm in tone heaven. One footswitch won't do the job, looks like you need two for all functions. That's a little bit of a bummer since they aren't cheap; and the amp is a little pricey compared to similar units. But if you are a studio player, church player, or gig where you just go to the house PA you should check this out; it is small and light an you don't have to lug speaker cabs around if you don't want to. Lot's of demo's and info out there for you to research as well (I always do). If your local store has one-go check it out. It also came with JJEL84 and Ruby 12AX7 and they sound great! I am not even going to change them and that is something I always do when I get a new head.

.I really like the sounds from this amp. It reminds me of the peavey bravo I used to own and should have held on to. The cleans with humbuckers are nice and defined. The gain channel really comes through nicely. At 20 watts with the gain and volume levels at half way and the master set the same, this amp just gets a great sound. The stage volume is perfect for most venues I play, if I need more, I just run the line out to the mixer. Its also really light and easy to carry, just what I was looking for!!

What a great little tube head w/ pro recording features.
I wanted this amp so bad as I gave it a 2nd and 3rd test drive comparing it to the other low watt amps available in the store. It out performed them all IMO.
Unfortunately, the 20 watts on board was breaking up a bit too soon for me with the gain's presence still rolled way off. I was hoping to pair this w/ my 410 Marshall cabinet but have too many songs on the set list that need clean raw rhythm power to support the timbre of the tune.
Had this same model 'head' been available in a 50 watt version, it would have made it home w/ me today. Considering their 100 watt model head but want to stay light for most of the gigs.
Peavey's quality has reached new heights! I haven't used Peavey in years, but this new Valveking 2 model has brought all my curiosities back. Kudos!

.I am VERY impressed by this little sweetheart. Gorgeous clean. And dirt to die for. Plus it has both XLR & USB Direct outs, so it can be plugged into the PA system or your computer. And it can be set to only 1 watt for quiet crunchiness when everyone else is asleep, or to 5 watts for basement rehearsals.
Since I don't have a dedicated cab yet, I'm using the speaker in my Crate V5. It is the same Fender Eminence speaker that is in my Pro Junior.

.I really liked this little (read: light) head. Peavey shad always been dependable for me, circa 1982. Stock tubes provide unusably harsh for my regular rock and country. First replace V1 with a 5751 GE tube. V2-3 need Russian 12AX7s. These are all readily available online. You need to get matched tubes.
That upgrade is not cheap, but now I gig with only the amp. EXCELLENT gain sounds and bluesy breakup. I use different thicknesses of picks depending on the song. Now I have 9 drive/distortion pedals that I absolutely do not need, and I have the exact sound I've been looking for! Gigs are mic'd BTW. I run the head through a Traynor ext cab with a Celestion Vintage 30. Love that speaker!

.ive had this amp for about a year now. This amp is definitely worth every penny! the build quality is excellent...the amp looks cool....and its offers a wide range of sounds! I've recorded older "Outlaw" country type songs with it as well as "Nu-Metal" type songs.....you just have to mess with the gain and class a-a/b dials a bit and you can get just about any sound! it sounded great on both! the simulated mic out sounds real good too! I don't even bother to setup a mic when performing anymore, just plug in an XLR cable from the back of the amp straight to the mixer and your done! this amp is very light yet sturdy. ive played many shows with it, and so far I haven't needed any extra power......just make the PA system do the work if you need extra power. For hundreds of shows, I used to lug around my Mesa Boogie dual rectifier (100 watts and probably 50lbs)......after getting this amp, my mesa has just been chillin in my studio.....this little peavey sounds good, looks good, and is light.............I can only assume it will last forever as well, since everything else i have from Peavey never seems to die. buy it, thats my recommendation.

.Wish I had bought this amp years ago. As I get a little older, carrying some of this heavy stuff is getting old! This little amp is light, easy to transport, and the tone is excellent. I really should get a carrying case for it to protect it while gigging, but I'm pretty careful with it. Now I just need to get a simple foot switch to go from rhythm to lead channel, and I'm all set. I do have several boost and distortion pedals, so that works too, but they don't sound as good as the lead channel on this amp. Sometimes, but very seldom, I could use a little more power. I think 30 watts would be great, but for 95% of the time, 20 is plenty, and is easier on my hearing.
