I own the Vypyr 75 the VIP 2 and now the VIP 3. I am particular about sound and feel. I own tube amps. I have more than 7 modeling amps. I have a home studio and band practice at my home. Nobody brings an amp. This is the best tube sound of any amp I own except my tube amps but the tone is better on the VIP 3. If you like metal such as Pink Floyd, Satriani, Steve Vai,Van Halen Toto, Boston, Gary Moore, all of 80s Metal, this is the amp for you. The included Triple x amp is the best articulate and balanced metal sound I have used. The 6534 is the fattest lead tone I have ever used. The Twin is darn good and with chorus and compression it does a fabulous 12 string. The Acoustic amps are great and the acoustic SIM is exceptional. Most metal factory presets are set too hot in gain. Back down the gain. The Power Sponge is the most improved from the original Vypyr series.It really sounds like a top of the line tube amp cranked except that the sweet spot stays sweet and the bass stays tight. TUBE AMPS GET FLUBBY BASS WHEN CRANKED. This amp has booming power and it is hard to believe how light it is. The best for smooth distortion and cutting edge tube response. Better than tubes in my opinion. Tubes fluctuate with room temperature and overheat when cranked then clearity becomes compressed. I have been approached repeatedly about my onstage sound. I have a Mustang 3 and a VIP 3, one above the other. It is an incredible combo. Best of two worlds. .I use this amp at home and for band performances. It is an outstanding electric guitar amp, offering many different types of amps all built into one unit. Within each amp option, many special effects are offered - most of which I don't use, other than the chorus setting which sounds super. The amp is incredibly powerful in the electric guitar setting, and very impressive in the acoustic guitar setting as well. I use it with both electric and acoustic guitars and I have it an A+++ rating for electric and an "A" for the acoustic. That said, if you want an amp just for acoustic guitar, I recommend other options such as Fender's Acoustasonic, which is just an overall better amp for strictly acoustic (just a warmer, crisper, richer sound and some great effects). The amp doubles nice as acoustic, but its electric guitar option is its wheelhouse. Tremendous electric guitar amp for rock, country, you name it. For the bass guitar setting, it works and sounds fine, but just has a 12" speaker and seems limited in terms of volume. It is adequate for jamming at home, but wouldn't cut it in a band setting or gig uptown. This can be overcome by running it through the PA system with a mic. There is no line out option, which is a strike - but using a mic seems to be an easy bypass to this shortfall. Other reviews suggest this amp is too difficult to use. I don't feel this way. You have to spend a little time learning your way around on it, but after a few uses I became quite comfortable. The presets are excellent.

.I bought this amp to make my life easier. I'm approaching 60 years old and I don't like hauling all my gear around and I don't have roadies. So I thought I would try out this new amp from Peavey after seeing a you tube video of Skolnick playing one. I normally use Line 6 Vetta ii's and Gallien Kruger Guitar amps and Genz Benz Accoustic amps in a stereo set up with my Parker Dragon Fly, but this little 100 watt Peavey amp really has some nice amps in it for a modeling amp. I also like the effects offered. In order to enjoy this amp and take full advantage of it's abilities you must buy the Sanpera Pedal that is designed for these amps. Just like Line 6, I can't understand why they don't sell the amp and the pedal together. They are worthless without each other in both cases. This is a cool little amp, and when I run it with the Genz Benz for the accoustic side of my guitar it really rocks. It really needs an external speaker jack. Stupid not to put one in an amp. So Simple. I would reccommend this amp to anybody.

.I like Peavey a lot, they make good products. I've owned a Classic 30 for nearly 20 years and love it. I also have the Ecoustic 100W and it is a great amp.
I wanted a good metal sound as the Classic 30's strengths are classic rock and blues. The Vypyr nailed it right out of the box. I tried the Line 6 just for comparison, and it sounded much like my friend's did 10 years ago. The Celestian speaker is great on the Line 6, but for me the sound is mediocre and doesn't sound authentic. The Peavey really does a good job sounding like the amps it's recreating digitally. It even feeds back like a real tube amp, pretty cool!
The sponge knob is awesome, adjusts the output from 1W to 100W, so you can have a cranked 5W sound or have great sound quality at low volume using 100W (well, once you get past "2" on the volume, the thing quickly gets LOUD!).
Although a great bargain (can't post prices in review), it's deceptive. To fully access the amp's features, at a minimum you need Sanpera I or II footswitch, which you'd likely want the versatility of the Sanpera II. So, in actuality you'll spend more on this amp to have a functional/versatile setup. I ordered the Sanpera II since it wasn't in the store, should be here soon.
If you want you can even spend more money on Peavey's recording software. A CD is included that permits a 60-day trail to use it. Once you install the program it starts the 60 days, wish they'd give you the option to start it when you want. What if it's Monday and you can't use it until the weekend? There goes 4 days of the trial, so don't install until you're ready to start using it. If you're like me, you can buy a non-commercial license for sixty, seems like a decent price to record direct to your computer.
Commenting on the review about the acoustic guitar clipping, the owner's manual says the input is designed for passive electronics and the volume should be reduced on the guitar to prevent clipping. It also mentions it auto adjusts the input properties when you select an acoustic or bass amp, but make sure to pay attention to the volume on the acoustic. Without knowing what went into the decision, this to me was a strange choice since most acoustics to my knowledge have a battery powered pickup and are active. But it wasn't a big deal, I just lowered the volume on my Tayor and it sounded pretty good. You can tell it sounds slightly like an acoustic being played through a speaker designed for an electric, but with a chorus effect it sounded quite good.
I haven't used a bass in it as I don't have one. For the last few days I've enjoyed playing through this and look forward to exploring the unit further with the added benefit of the Sanpera II.
For now switching between clean and metal channels is impractical, walking to the amp, turning the dial and finding the sound you want.
Although Peavey seemed rather fixated on hitting the price point of competition (matched the Line 6 price for people who can't figure out the Line 6 also sells the footswitch separately), but honestly they should just offer a package deal with the Sanpera I or II.
The footswitch thing is a minor nuisance easily remedied by purchasing a pedal. Just understand, just like the Line 6 you're not going to start gigging or even jamming at home by only buying the amp.
If you have a need for a great amp that will give you bang for the buck, this is the ticket! Go plug into one and see for yourself!

.To start, I really like this amp, but was disappointed as well. I have owned Line 6 Spider and the Roland Cube amps. Also, have had multi effect and modeling pedals, such as Zoom, Digitech and Rocktron. The Vypyr VIP 3 is the best yet, hands down. I love the guitar amp models, I can get out of this thing.. Pretty easy to learn your way around the amp. A Sanpera Pedal is recommended for this amp. Most modeling amps, a pedal of some sorts usually is. Even with the cost of the pedal, you can get into this rig at a reasonable price. The Sanpera 2 is obviously the better way to go, but I was not wanting to go that bulky, so I opted for the 1. It does everything I need.
What I did not like. First, I bought this because of the variable instrument technology. As I said, you cannot go wrong with the guitar on this. The bass guitar is another story. Let's just say, if you had to play through it in a pinch with a bass, you could, but it is not very desirable. I could see where it would be nice for recording your bass, but that is it. I almost expected this though. Also the bass modeler for the guitar, does not sound anywhere near, what it sounds like in the demo videos you see on YouTube. Bummer. Basically unusable and does not track very well. I have not plugged my acoustic into it yet, but expect that it will work and sound nice. The acoustic modeler is ok, but I would probably still be better off with my Boss Acoustic Simulation Pedal. Maybe with some more tweaking in the settings could make it better, but I did not focus on that so much. I was mainly looking to switch between guitar and bass on this. Also the build of the amp itself is questionable. The knobs seem to be cheap and like they could easily break. But, for the price, this is expected, and I have excepted it.
If someone is looking at one of these and to strictly play guitar, it is great, but I would recommend waiting on the Vypyr Pro to be released. That amp seems to pick up on everything that is missing on the VIP series. It seems Peavey was paying attention to their customers comments on the VIP for the build of the Pro. All in all, I like the VIP so much, I would almost like to get a smaller model, but I think I will wait to see if they release a smaller Pro model.
I know it seems I have focused more on the negative side of things, but it boils down to this for me:

.Ive been playing for 6 years now and I got this amp at a local music store. In the store I was blown away, I thought it sounded pretty good...then I brought it home. At first I thought all I needed to do was to tweak with it here and there, but after hours and hours I can't get this thing to sound great whatsoever. I tried using it live once and it hummed incredibly loud. A friend of mine got the same amp. He's a recording engineer and he couldn't even get it to sound good. The effects just sound terrible to me no matter what you try. For a beginner this amp would seem great because to them it would be decently simple to get used to, okay effects (for a beginner and definitely not for live purposes), but a bit overpriced for such beginners. I have a Line 6 Spider 150 Watt as well and it DESTROYS this amp. True, the amp was a bit more, but definitely worth it. Although I noted more pros than cons, the cons, or con rather far outweighs the pros. The amp is portable (oh wait every amp is), it is loud and powerful, but the sound of the amp is just too awful for me to recommend. When you get an amp you want it to sound AMAZING and this certainly doesn't. Some may find uses for it I imagine with the different amp models, but you'd be lucky. Oh and it is easy to use...with the foot pedal. Without the foot pedal it is still easy to edit effects, but it's certainly harder to switch between effects (as most amps are) and I have not found out how to work the looper without the pedal. That's it for my ranting.

.Unless you have a vast knowledge of effects boxes and amps you are in for a lot of trial and error. Called Peavey, was told that the possibilities were so vast there was not really any documentation of effects settings that were pre-programed into the amp available. There is not any listing of what the various effects boxes are or what they do. The VIP-1 & VIP-2 when you select a input function you only see the amps and boxes that relate to that input, not so with the VIP-3. Electric, Acoustic or Bass you are presented with the same list of amps and boxes. So unless you are quite knowledgeable or are just a good enough musician where you like to experiment, I would suggest seriously consider the VIP-2 it is much more user friendly. I returned the VIP-3 and bought the VIP-2 much happier even if I though after reimbursing the shipping cost and paying to ship the VIP-3 back the end cost of my VIP-2 was almost the same as the VIP-3. All of the VIP amps are excellent amps but make you choice carefully, weigh you needs and experience. The rating value is a hard choice, if you chose the correct VIP for you knowledge and skill lever, it will be excellent. In my case since I had know idea what most of the effects boxes and amps were and Peavey could not provide me with that information the amp left a lot to be desired. In the manual most of the amps have a brief description in the VIP-2 section but the VIP-3 ads a few more that are not in the manual at all. I repeat make your choice carefully, if you choose the right model for your needs you will be a happy musician.

.I tried this guitar amp out at guitar center. I thought that it had a great tone for guitar and bass. Having all those peavy amp models where great and the effects where pretty cool to. I also tried it out with a bass and it had and I thought it sounded great, but when I tried it out with an acoustic guitar is sounded like it was clipping I even had some one help me but we couldn't figure out why it had that sound. When I plugged in to an acoustic amp it sounded fine so I don't think it was the guitar. I would recommend this amp for guitar and bass but not for acoustic.

.I have been playing for 20 years and have played everything under the sun. I have played modeling amps and tube amps and finally Peavey has gotten it right. I played the original Vypyr and took it back within two days. I was hesitant to try this amp but as soon as I did I was able to dial everything from warm cleans to screaming metal and everything in-between. This amp has finally convinced me, love my tube amps but this is my new go to amp. Did a side by side of this and 6505+ and honestly there was very little difference in tone. You will not regret this amp, don't let the price fool you.

.I've playing bass for four bar gigs for a bad. As a guitarist, I didn't own a bass or bass amp, but the band leader had a Peavey bass (Precision pickup) and a Vypyr 3. I have been pleasantly surprised with how good both sound. I have not had time to play with different models in the amp, so have just used what he found to work best, "001 Delta Slide", which sounds like an acoustic guitar preset, but works surprisingly well for bass. It's loud, too. We've had no problem with bass volume without any PA support.
