I think for a small amp this puts out an unbeatable quality tone and it is extremely versatile. I have all Vypyr VIP versions 1, 2 and 3 and all have the same great sound. For a great practice amp this is it. It also records great. The flexibility of the amp gives you great acoustic amp Sims and great electric acoustic Sims. I think the bass amps are beautiful and so good for recording bass or practicing with great tone. Acoustic guitar really excels here with the Trace amp sim. I think it is the best grab and go, sound great, out of the box practice amp, period. For big sound out of a little amp, this one is the winner. You don't need any pedals cause it does it all. It will take pedals into the amp well. I like the clean Triple X setting that gives me perfect fidelity to run my multi fx into it and it does not color the sound and stays true to my multi fx tone when I wanna use it. The Zoom G1xon is a great multi and a perfect pair with the VIP series. I get some of my best tones out of this combo than some expensive pedal boards with much less tweaking. After you see how nice it is you can do what I did which was to step up to the VIP 2 or VIP 3. The tones are compatible and free software librarian makes it ultra easy to save and bounce sounds around. I have the Sanpera pedal board and was shocked to see that this Lil amp becomes totally controllable and has 400 user accessible presets. So you can practice on this Lil fella and then go to a bigger 100 watt VIP 3 onstage exactly the same footswitching.

.I know you're not reading this to learn all about me but I think my experiences definitely add to the appeal of this amp & better explains why it kicks a. I play mostly metal/metalcore/djent/jazz stuff. I play an Agile Septor Elite 8 string with EMG 808s. I've been playing for 15+ years, I've owned all kinds of tube, solid state, & hybrid heads & combos. Some good, some not so good. I've been a die hard fan of Line 6 from the beginning. Despite the naysayers, they have a loyal following & for good reason. I've owned several Line 6 amps & I've been relying on my original red bean POD as my main practice/recording tool for at least the last 10 years. (I tried the newer HD version as well but it just wasn't for me) There's just something so right about the original & I've gotten so much praise over my tone over the years, thanks mostly to my POD. I will say Line 6 does metal exceptionally well & it's been my go-to since forever but I think it's finally met its match.

I'm genuinely astounded at the tones coming out of this amp. First things first, I've owned a block letter 5150 stack, a Valveking 100 stack, & a 6505+ 112 combo & I tell you what, this amp can get so close to those amps it's amazing! Not in terms of volume of course but the tonal dynamics, responsiveness, & overall sound, just WOW. The level of tonal quality & characteristics can be heard on all the other amp models too. It takes a lot to impress me & I'm impressed. It's the amp I never knew I needed so much. This amp, & frankly the entire Vypyr series, is a true diamond in the rough. Seriously, tone gurus, tube purists, & gear snobs alike need to set aside their biases & give this amp an honest chance. Trust me, I get the appeal of the "real deal amps" & they're amazing but, & maybe it's just me, why should I fork over stupid amounts of money for the genuine article when I can spend a fraction on something that sounds SO close? I'm over the phase of caring what others think of my gear, for me it's all about the tone &, to quote Metallica, nothing else matters. This thing is good for solo practice, band practice, & you can mic it on stage. Who cares that it's small & it's not an expensive boutique tube amp? I should also mention I'm a dad & husband & I work for a living so good deals like this are a godsend for me. Family is so much more important than gear so thank you Peavey for offering this kind of quality at such a small price.

I stumbled upon & purchased the original 15w Vypyr not too long ago & was so impressed with the tone it produced I sold it & got the updated/upgraded model. The difference between the 2...well the 20w is more powerful/louder of course, noticeably better overall build quality, an added 3/4 rear speaker enclosure (thank you! much tighter/deeper bass response!), addition of bass/acoustic modeling, the list just goes on & on as far as features go.

Guys I really believe Peavey is onto something here & I have no doubt that history will prove that I'm right. People are going to start taking notice, it's only a matter of time & I hope it helps change the whole dynamic for other amp manufacturers. You CAN give customers good tone & quality without asking for their soul &/or entire savings! Now that technology has come this far, it's obvious things in the industry are going to start changing & I'm proud to be part of that shift. I don't know about you guys but I've already spent enough money on gear! Thanks again Peavey, you deserve all the praise in the world & you'd be a fool not to purchase one of these amps. BUY THE AMP!

.I can't believe this an is as inexpensive as it is. It really is the best solid state am I have ever played through. All of the amps and effects in this thing are perfectly modeled after the real things. I own a 6505+ and can vouch that the 6505+ model in the VIP1 sounds exactly like the real deal. The bass guitar and acoustic guitar models that can be used with an electric guitar sound genuine and not cheesy. They did a great job with that. The Vpyyr Edit software that you can download and use with this amp is great and makes fine tuning all of the settings and presets even easier than it already is on the amp itself. This amp also comes with Peavey's Revalver software. This amp is plenty loud for small performances and practicing with a band. It's lightweight and sounds fantastic!

.Cool sounds - tons of effect - incredible deal
Peavey VYPYR VIP 1 20W 1x8 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp Black
.I bought this mainly as a bass practice amp for my wife, but I also wanted to use this for recording/practicing guitar and theremin. I started with the bass as that would be the amp's primary function and any time I hit a G (anywhere on the bass) the amp would rattle badly. Also, the low F - G# would rattle it as well. The only way to combat this was to turn the volume down on the bass.
I tried 2 basses, both with passive pickups. Same result. I had the master volume at 2, it just got worse if I cranked it up.

It was fine for guitar with a real hot gain as a default, but I couldn't get past the terrible bass response. I'm returning it.

.i was looking for an inexpensive small amp to tote around with me where ever as i have the viper 100wt 2 12 and it's big and heavy and takes up allot of room so i stumbled onto this little gem it's small has lots of effects light weight ok i'm sold' it came i plugged in and was blow away i can not be leave the sound that comes out of this little thing and the effects are better than my giant peavey it is exactly what i wanted a power house in a small package that isn't cumbersome. now when i first powered it on i had the hum but quickly realized the pre and post gain was all the way up just turn down with minor adjustments and wallah no more hum. i have been playing 13yrs been thru allot of amps big and small but with the technology these days WOW! so that's it happy jamming
Peavey VYPYR VIP 1 20W 1x8 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp Black
.Most modeling amps can't do everything well...this one does. I was floored when I played thought it for the first time and the love has not worn off. Sounds great at low volume and even better cranked. Going to by the big brother...
Peavey VYPYR VIP 1 20W 1x8 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp Black
.This Amp Sounds great as a Bass Amp and helps my bottom end electric guitar sound like much more. I use it at home for jamming and demo recording. Only had it for 2 weeks but have not had any issues with the amp itself. Great price for my favorite modeling amp to date.
Peavey VYPYR VIP 1 20W 1x8 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp Black
.Having a ton of fun with this amp. I am still waiting for the interface software though.
Peavey VYPYR VIP 1 20W 1x8 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp Black
.This is by far one of the worst amps I've ever played through. The distortion sounds so terrible, and the amp simulations are pretty bad, too. The effects are okay, though. But, for the most part this amp is trash, and there's far better options for modeling amps than this, like, the Fender Mustang Series, the Blackstar ID Series, the Roland Cubes, and hell, even a Line 6 sounds better than this. So, if you want my advice, spend your money elsewhere, don't even consider buying this sorry excuse for an amplifier.
