I own the Vypyr 75 the VIP 2 and now the VIP 3. I am particular about sound and feel. I own tube amps. I have more than 7 modeling amps. If you like metal such as Pink Floyd, Satriani, Steve Vai,Van Halen Toto, Boston, Gary Moore, all of 80s Metal, this is the amp for you. The included Triple x amp is the best articulate and balanced metal sound I have used. The 6534 is the fattest lead tone I have ever used. The Twin is darn good and with chorus and compression it does a fabulous 12 string. The Acoustic amps are great and the acoustic SIM is exceptional. Most metal factory presets are set too hot in g.It really sounds like a top of the line tube amp cranked except that the sweet spot stays sweet and the bass stays tight. TUBE AMPS GET FLUBBY BASS WHEN CRANKED. This amp has booming power and sounds more like 60 watts, not 40 watts, like it is rated and it is very light and portable. Sounds like the VIP 3 but half the volume. The best for smooth distortion and cutting edge tube response. Better than tubes in my opinion. Tubes fluctuate with room temperature and overheat when cranked then clearity becomes compressed. The VIP 3 is of course the choice for a live band but the VIP 2 is loud enough if you Mic it. I visit my local store GC and this is my choice to audition guitars. It always gets a flabbergasted look from store clerks and customers. I have sold many of these VIP s just by playing them in the store. The VIP series is the most versatile and easy to use amp ever. The Free Peavy software editor Librarian makes it very easy to save as many patches as you wish but you can save any type of 24 patches in the amp. Trust me that this is enough but those tweaker that need more get the VIP 3 since it has 400 user editable pay he's and runs on the same software. The Acoustic amp SIM is really good for acoustic and the AC SIM is very good. The impedance is perfectly adjusted for Acoustic. Consider the VIP 3 if you need it in a band otherwise it is a great amp.

.does a lot of things, but does none of them well. Cheap amp, cheap sound. This is not an amp I would use on a gig, too complicated even with the pedal. If you want a pro amp, stay away from this one. I bought it for studio use and it does not even do that well. It just sounds cheesy. But what did I expect for the price.

Every thing sounds cheesy, effects, amp models, all of it. And as far as playing bass thru this thing, FORGET ABOUT IT.....

The only thing that sounds decent is the acoustic guitar settings. And they are just that; decent, not great.

.Very disapointed with this amp. Hard to setup and sound is not what is advertised. I would not recommend this amp.
I would return to Custom Guitars Friend but the shipping and restocking fee would cost too much.

.Ok, I've had this amp for awhile and can say it's awesome. That being said, there are two things I've noticed. The first thing is that this is a 40 watt amp, yet the Vypyr 30 seems to be louder. At least at lower volumes. If you put both amps at 2 or 3, the Vypyr 30 is louder. Weird, but no big deal as this 40 watter is still plenty loud enough. The second issue is a sound issue, and, as we all know, sound is subjective to each individual. Anyway, I noticed much more bass from this amp than the Vypyr 30. This is fine at low volumes, but when you start to turn it up it starts to drown out the mids and treble, becoming "boomy" and a bit muddy, at least to my ears. This disappointed me. I then decided to "unport" the amp by taking the back off of it. I have to say IMHO this amp sounds awesome now, much more clear than it did before. It still has more bass than the Vypyr 30 and, since Peavey added compression to the distortion as the volume increases, this thing sounds very close to the amps being modeled, closer than the Vypyr 30 does. It now sounds good when turning it up loud. I would imagine if you use the amp with a bass you would want to put the back back on, but for guitar it's perfect! Of course, this is my opinion, yours may vary, but if you have this amp and find it to be bass heavy and lacking in clarity try "unporting" it as I did, it may make the difference for you.

.Played this amp in a music store and it was loud and versatile. The Delay and reverb was very nice. The feel of it was very tubelike as I have a Fender Twin Tube Amp. I really thought the amp models for Acoustic guitar were really good. The triple x amp was as good as others have said and I use it as the cleanest setting to run pedals into it. I use a Zoom G1xon multi effects pedal. It sounds great and I think it really sounds like a great tube amp. The G1xon really compliments this amp. I do agree that the pedal to operate it is out of my price range but I really like a multi effects pedal in conjunction with it. Oh when I am using a metal setting like the 6505 which is very Van Halen I can reduce gain from my guitar with my multi effects G1xon. It really is an inexpensive pedal with super pro sound. Nice pair together and I am totally happy.

.The cabinet on unit I bought resonated/vibrated very loudly on any notes below 'A' even at very modest volume settings.
Modelling is limited to 2 options for Bass.
Many of the effects are either not available or not well suited to Bass.
IMO Peavey has oversold the functionality for multi-instrument use.

.This amp is the diggity. I play both bass and guitar so this is a dream come true for me. It has 6 different bass amps and tons of great guitar tones. The bass amp actually sounds better then my Hartke rig. Endless possibilities and I just used it today as an Acoustic amp....Crazy! I like the guitar sounds as you can get this thing screaming with gai if you want. Thanks Peavey!!

.I have had two of these. Both came with broken corner protectors(not available from peavey until Jan 2014).Good for electric and acoustic guitar.
Both amps were not good for bass as there is a lot of distortion on low bass notes, only good at low volume. I would have liked a smaller cabinet.

I do not recommend this amp for bass players.

.After owning the Peavey Vypyr 30, I had to give this amp a shot. The fact that it carries bass, and acoustic amp modeling is what sold me on the VIP 2. Instead of having to jack into this amp and that, while recording, plus getting really good sound quality... Is terrific!
I have started culling the herd of amps that I own as a result. Though this amp, compared to the Vypyr 30 is more of a Peavey related product, in regards to the many Peavey models on board. Where the Vypyr 30, covers a wider range of amp models.

The VIP 2 has some different effects, such as Sitar, resonater etc... Which are very Cool! I'm stil learnng as I go, but am enjoying the process!

.THE PEAVEY VYPYR VIP SERIES : Was in the market for a small practice amp with nice warm tones and good clean sound and tube over drive. But not looking to spend obscene amounts of money on a 15 watt boutique amp. Did some pretty extensive on line research and was really impressed by what I saw and read and heard about the Peavey Vypyr Series, When I was younger and gigging the club circuits, I was all about the Racks and Stacks and Tube Heads, i.e. Marshall 800, Carvin x-100, Chandler Tube driver, ADA MP-1, Tube Screamer, Distortion +...pretty sure you can guess what decade that was....lol....So I purchased a Used VIP-2 from Custom Guitars Friend with one year warranty and free shipping for One-hundred and fifty dead presidents. Never ordered a amp on line let alone a used one before. Got it today (one of the plastic corner guards was missing- seems this is very common and a constant complaint, hell I saved seventy-five dead presidents off the price of a mint condition amp and mine still had the UPC sticker and the info sheet on the grill and the power cord was still sealed in the bag) Anyway this lil sucker right outta the box, plug in and instant TONE, Check out all the on-line reviews and you tube vids on this amazing amp, (The Tone Kings reviews were especially helpful in my decision, THANK YOU) bang 4 the buck FIVE STARS ! One Wicked Piece of Gear !
