First, let me tell you that I own many guitars and have toured for years as a musician. I'm not sharing that to brag, but wanted to be clear that I DO have experience. One of my guitars is an original 1963 Jazzmaster. It is amazing. It is also very expensive and I would cry if it was ever stolen at a show, SO...I decided to look for a cheaper guitar to take on the road.This isn't American made, but no matter what you pay for a Fender or Squier Jazzmaster, unless you buy an American made model, none of them are really gonna hold their value. As far as build quality, there is really no difference in skill coming in from Japan or Mexico or China. It is always gonna be some dude following the rules at the factory and building basically the same guitar each time. Maybe a different wood or hardware will improve the sound, but unless you're buying vintage, most of these guitars are basically the same. What makes this guitar cheaper is the Squier name and the cost to build it in China is less. I played a Mexican made Fender "Classic Player" Jazzmaster that cost twice as much and I swear this guitar is better in every way. The tone is slightly different because the pickups are not authentic Jazzmaster pickups, but these pickups sound great with some adjustment of the tone knobs. The tone is a mix between P-90s and a Strat/Jazzmaster. Definitely a Fender tone. It isn't gonna sound like a 1963 Jazzmaster, but it is also 20 times less. The neck felt great right out of the box. It stays in tune. I like that the bridge is moved forward a bit. I like the white and gold color combo. I think that this guitar will become a cult classic. There is nothing else like it in this price range.
I know people trash Squiers (I was one of them) and I was very hesitant to believe the reviews. Well, let me say that these reviewers are telling the truth. It is a great guitar. The only people that know the difference between Squiers and Fenders are the people in the audience that play guitar. Most people care about their beer and if you're putting on a good show.
Even if you can afford a more expensive guitar, unless you're buying an American reissue or a vintage Jazzmaster, don't waste your money on a Mexican made Classic Player. This guitar is all you will need and you can put the extra money towards a good pedal!

.I rate conservatively; there aren't pickup options or color options to take the instrument to an overall 10, and in price it's in a strange place compared to other Fender and Squier models.
Glad to see it's very well built; if you don't need differing colors or vintage nitro finishes, this is probably the current production Jazzmaster to buy - if you want to upgrade anything, you've got hundreds of dollars to do so with before hitting the Clasic Players, which are another pricing tier altogether different.

Standard Jazzmaster features, plus Tune-o-matic bridge like you'll find as an aftermarket mod on a lot of modern Fender offset six strings.
Pickups are more towards P90 than Jazzmaster but you can find both tones in there with some dialing in.
Shielding/hum is very impressive, regardless of instrument price. Even with higher gain pedals it's very reasonable and quiet.
First, the bad. Anodized pickguard doesn't look bad in person but isn't anything to write home about. Trem arm tip is 2 piece and mold lines are very apparent and prevalent.
Other than that, no issues. Limited color choice, hope you like the one option. Well applied body finish, neck finish is tinted well (no orange monster here) and very light - like a broken in satin.
The single best Chinese guitar I've handled so far. There is nothing wrong with it except a chintsy trem arm tip cover.
This is probably the steal of the century in offsets.

Once in awhile, life throws you a bone. This is a fantastic guitar with all the JM features in a very high quality build. I would take this over a Classic Player any day of the week. Nuff said.
Mindblowing quality for the price point - try to build one of these and you will run out of money before you even get to the electronics at what this sells for. You may or may not like the pickguard, but that is all aesthetics - the foundation is there and the pickups really kick a$$
This is where it gets good - at the price MF sells it for - it is a steal. I lucked out and found a Class 4 used one for a ridiculous price and snagged it - turned out to be only a broken toggle switch! Again, sometimes life throws you a bone, but you have to be at the right place and right time and be willing to take a gamble. Could have easily been a snapped neck or a mangled body etc.

I recieved this guitar a few months back and can see why they are never in stock. Great tone, great playability, great intonation. Also, it's just stunning to look at.
Quality is fantastic for being made in China. Everything is solid, the bridge doesn't rattle. I had a Blacktop Jazzmaster from Fender and that was not near the quality of this Squier.
Great value. I'm hanging on to this guitar. Already used it live and in the studio and it sounds great it in all situations.

.I've had the guitar for approx. two weeks and I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase. I'm not a brand slave, but the Squire badge did give me pause. I had just sold a Gretsch semi-hollow Sparkle Jet and "rolled the dice on this." Turns out it wasn't much of a gamble at all.
Here's the skinny:
+ True Jazzmaster tone. Forget the Squier badge -- I'll take the Pepsi Challenge with an American Fender Jazz any old day of the week. I'm playing it through a Fender Super Champ XD...sounds great completely clean and totally dialed-up.
+ Very playable neck. Kinda thin, with a matte finish. I'm not much of a soloist, but I'd assume this neck would be great for all types of fretted acrobatics.
+ It looks great. Maybe the color combo isn't for everyone. But if you love the look of vintage guitars, you'll love this. It doesn't come across
well in the pictures, but the aluminum pick guard is really cool up close -- very brushed, not a gaudy shade of gold, either.
The guitar arrived with two tiny cracks in the body finish (right near the neck mount). It bummed me out at first, but a little Googling revealed that it's a common and purely cosmetic flaw on many Strats and Jazzmasters made outside the US. Called Custom Guitar's Friend to tell them about it and they credited me some money back.

.I was shopping for a Vintage Modified Jaguar, but decided during my search to go with the Mascis Jazzmaster. I'm glad I did. I'm very impressed with the workmanship on this guitar. This is guitar #17 for me, and I own mostly vintage guitars, and I can say that nothing about it looks or feels "cheap." Sounds great plugged in, but even sounds pretty good and solid unplugged.
I wouldn't recommend it for heavy vibrato use, and the arm tends to fall out because it's not threaded. But I hardly use whammy bars anyway so it doesn't matter to me.

.I've had this guitar for a few months now and I love playing it. I had wanted a Jazzmaster for a long time and was pretty set on getting the Fender Blacktop JM. I've always played humbucker PUP's, so I thought it would be cool to have an offset guitar with one in it, but a friend told me about this Squire JM that was supposedly just as good any Fender model. It was cheaper than the Blacktop and I figured I could use a guitar with single coils, and now I know I definitely made the right desicion. It's beautiful, well crafted and sounds amazing.
I've played a few different Fender and Squire Jazzmaster models and this one plays just as well as the MIM Fenders that are twice as much. The body is well crafted and the pickups are bright and have great tonality. Supposedly they are almost identical to the ones in the Classic Player (more p-90 style than traditional Jazzmasters). I've played soft jangle-pop, alternative rock and even heavy-metal type stuff on it and it seems to handle it all well. The tremolo works great and haven't had a problem with tuning after using it. Set-up and intonation was all near perfect too. The neck is probably my favorite feature. It has a satin finish that feels really smooth and looks great too.
The only drawback I can think of is that some of the electronics and hardware are mediocre, but most of this stuff can be fixed or replaced no problem. I had some really bad buzzing coming from a loose saddle. Problem was solved with a little bit of Loctite. The toggle switch gets dirty and sometimes cuts the signal when you use it. Cleaned it and now it's fine. The guitar also tends to be a little "chimy," which comes from the strings vibrating behind the saddle, but that is kind of the nature of Jazzmasters and has even been seen as a positive by a lot of musicians (more ambient, noisy sounds).
It's also probably good to note that J. Mascis actually plays this guitar live with Dinosaur Jr., so that should tell something about the quality of this Squire.

.The guitar sounded rough out of the box. The bridge was not tight and the intonation was off. I play left handed so I was planning on taking it to my guitar man anyway. He fixed the bridge with some loctite, made a new nut and set it up lefty for me. It sounds bangin' now. The Jmascis Jazzmaster sounds fat and warm and has a large sustain. The neck feels great. It is a heavy and sturdy guitar. I recorded with it and was very pleased with the results. I love this rad guitar. It's cool that J. Mascis went with a squier to make it affordable. Thanks dude.

I got this guitar after having GAS for a JM for a long time. This is in my opinion the best JM for the price, as it has the TOM bridge already. The electronics on mine are solid.The Jazzmaster's switching system takes a bit of getting used to, but is great when you get the hang of it.
The clean sounds on all the pickups are crisp and well defined. Drop tune it and add some distortion, and she'll grunge it with the best of them. I use this in an alt-rock, Nirvana, QOTSA, Alice in Chains Sabbath - type originals band and it does the job very well. This guitar does however need to be well set up by a tech who knows their job well, or the bridge will buzz. I have .11's on it and they return to pitch very well even with Neil Young-esque tremolo usage.

Jumbo frets, TOM bridge, and closer trem placement make this a really usable jazzmaster.
I put .13-56 D'Addario med jazz strings on mine and tune way down to baritone standard. It's awesome. Changing the strings and doing a setup (as expected with a new guitar) were all that was required to bring the guitar up to speed.
