The Electro-Harmonix Voice Box is a harmony machine and vocoder that packs a multi-functional vocal synth processor into a tough and compact chassis. Sing, and the Voice Box pedal gives you a troupe of backup singers following you in perfect harmony. Or use the built-in vocoder to unleash classic synth-robot sounds. The Voice Box's harmony processor creates 2- to 4-part harmonies directly from your vocals in the same key as your accompanying instrument. The Voice Box pedal's studio-quality reverb lets you independently add depth to your vocal harmony.
The focused 256-band articulate vocoder, designed by the same EMS genius who made vocoding famous, features adjustable harmonic enhancement and controllable formant shift.

I have seen this with other EX products- put out a bunch of hype and demo videos, and then the product doesn't come close in real world applications. I had the same experience with the paracoustic di- not great sounding, muffled. I can't figure out how they are making any money on these- 90% of them have got to be getting returned by unhappy buyers. I own the product, but not for long. It's going back.Sounds like a box of robotic chipmunks. Tracking is slow, and effect is muffled. I use the best monster/Fishman/shure beta58 stuff, and this thing is a toy at best. Does not compare to the Digitech vocalist. The only reason I tried this was to save a little space on my pedal board.
I agree with the other reviewer- the vocoder does NOTHING- does not work. The whistle feature is marginal at best.
The housing is solid, but the functions are 90% useless. I could find no practical use for this pedal, other than to give my mic a ridiculously hot signal, even with the gain set low.
Buying something that has no use is the worst value.

Electro-Harmonix Voice Box Harmony Machine/Vocoder
.This box is really really awesome. It makes for a great tool in adding extra sonic flare to a track or performance. The harmonies don't always sound like real people but I still love the effect. Its not like a cheap robot sim and its not like a vocal quartet. It is its own sound. I love mine. Im constantly thinking of new reasons to use it.

.I use it strictly for vocals on choruses or whatever needs thickening. I was running my bass through it initially but I only use the octave feature which does not require an instrument to be ran through it and I only play bass so I am not strumming chords. The harmonies and other functions (not sure about the vocoder) sound cool but you need mess around with it to get the sound you want. I think it works pretty good just don't expect perfection and you will most likely be able to fine tune it to suit your needs. I hope this helps.

.When I first saw this I thought "WOW"! a reasonably priced harmony box.It turned out to be a major disappointment. 1st of all the vocals sound more like a barbershop quartet than say the Eagles or any vocal group you can think of. The other problem is that the harmonies lag when you change guitar chords. If you play 3 chord songs it isn't as noticable but anything more complex fools it. If your song has any accapella parts this box completly looses it. The only really good thing I can say about itis that it's built like a tank. After about 3 weeks I returned it because it was just about useless for my purposes. Save your money a bit longer & get the Digitech Live vocal 2 or better yet, the 4 (which I replaced the Electro Harmonix with). It may not do the vocoder (a mostly useless effect anyway) but it keeps up & doesn't lag and gives more realistic harmonies.

.I just bought the Electro Harmonix Voice Box and it rocks. The vocoder works great and sounds really cool when it's triggered by a guitar. The harmony modes work great, just as long as you sing on pitch. If not, there's still the octave and whistle mode that work great and don't have to follow the key you're playing in.The Voice Box also sounds really cool when you put horns through it instead of vocals. It's definitely a sick toy.

.I bought this product over two years ago and never got around to even taking it out of the box until just a few months ago. It has a serious buzz when I try to use it...It's worthless... unless I can find out there is some work-around or maybe a piece of electronic gear I can run this voice box through.. something that cancels buzz. I did NOT buy product insurance. I've sent one or two things back to Custom Guitars Friend over all the years I've bought from them. But I never waited TWO YEARS to try em out. Be aware kiddies, There are occasional serious problems with at least a few items from any manufacturer. Buy that insurance and above all...Take those goodies out of the box and try em out first thing. I'd give this a zero If I had tried it out first thing and got no satisfaction. I still give Custom Guitars Friend high marks. They have gone out of their way for me over the years. But this purchase was a bust. All because I didn't act soon enough. I'm still gonna give a slap to Electro-Harmonix. Bad on ya!

.I wanted to add a small amount of harmony to my vocals plus I needed a vocoder for a project, so I figured I'd give this a try after looking at the demo video, which is impressive. This was a bad purchase. Unlike the video, the unit I received did not perform nearly as good or as clear and I could never get the vocoder to work at all. Maybe I got a bad unit, but it's going back for a full refund now. Only good thing is it is built very tough. Guess if you got one that worked as advertised (if one exists) you might be happy.

.I just received my new Voice Box by Electro Harmonix and I'm very much impressed. It was simple to hook up and I was adding voice harmony to my voice in a matter of minutes. The samples and examples you hear the web just donesn't do it justice... The Vocoder portion in real neat also. I just needed the added harmonies and I got what I wanted... Great deal and fantastic sounds....

.I just bought one and I think its a good idea, but thos pedal is a tad rough. I am beginign to think I may just have a bad one, which is bound to happen. The pedal adds a tremendous amount of gain to the microphone AND guitar signal- even when bypassed. I could also hear bleed over "Hamonies" in my guitar....not good. Granted I didnt spend enough time with the pedal tweaking and the like but I did realize that it wouldn't sound right for what I was trying to do with it. I think its a great one though, just spend a lot of time with it and understand how it works. I am taking it back and getting a POG 2.Its definately worth a try!!
