This thing ROCKS! I bought it mainly for its classic Distortion but also for some sludgy Fuzz and it sure does the job! I also like to play slap bass and the Crossover feature can belt out some very funky tones. The best part of this pedal in my opinion is the handy onboard noise gate. Most bass players who use a lot of distortion (thrash, metal, punk etc) know a gate it a must! Oh and did I mention the DI output?! Having the noise gate, the crossover, the DI output, and the classic BigMuff all in one compact extremely durable and well made steel box makes this pedal worth every penny. A must have for every bass player! Get it!

.I was excited about the gate, and was quickly disappointed by its slow operation.

I also feel that I paid extra for a bunch of features I will never use(assorted in-outs and active -db pad).

But... the crossover and wet/dry blend make this pedal my favorite bass dist. Growly, fuzzy and warm. The range is so wide you almost need 2 of them.

.Awesome pedal...awesome sound. I'm very happy with it.
Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Bass Big Muff Pi Distortion Effects Pedal
.Just starting to experiment with different settings but love the adjustability. I've found I can dial in the amount of distortion I want and tone. "Iron Man" sounds awesome with just the right distortion dialed in. I have the this pedal in front of my Zoom B3 in my set up allowing me to use different amp models. I can make an incredible variation of tones.
The only thing I don't like is needing tools to take the whole bottom off to get the battery in.

.I used the original Bass BigMuff Pi as my main fuzz box for a while and while it created usable tones, I just couldn't seem to get anything to sound just how I was imagining my sound.

Well, after purchasing this I am getting all the tones I need, and much more. The overall tone of this is actually better than the original BigMuff. A much more tweakable, better sounding fuzz overall. Even just that is worth the extra money. But on top of this, it has a noise gate and a crossover with high and low pass filters which is a truly astounding feature. Originally I didn't picture myself using the crossover as much but you can get some CRAZY good tones with it. One example would be Cliff Burton's "for whom the bell tolls" intro tone. All in all, this pedal is most definitely worth the extra cash over the original BassMuff. Take it from someone who has used both in a band setting. The original bassmuff works, but if you are looking for tones that will cut through the mix, retain low end, and leave people asking what pedal you're using, I highly recommend this!

.Im crazy in love with this pedal!!!!!!

Lets go over why:

Sound: Its that crazy classic harsh fuzz distortion EHX is known for!!! IMPORTANT!!!! Since it is analog the amount of signal that goes into it is gonna affect the sound drastically!!! (Low volume=weak fuzz; High Volume= Strong fuzz distortion!!!)

Uses: Super versatile!!! I use this for Dance Gavin Dave's Robot With Human Hair Pt. 3. Circa Survive's Imaginary Enemy and Glass Arrows. All the Muse stuff. Its just great with the blend knob (KILLER FEATURE!!!!) and Crossover section I get all kinds of in-between filter settings I could never get before with a flanger or phaser although it sounds freaking killer with modulation added!!! Adds good full fuzz flavor to my vibrato and phase 100!!!

All in all: The standard bass big pi is great and it gets the same sound but if you want a lot of very practical features that can be used in live and studio situations do not hesitate to buy this pedal. I have not used a distortion like this...so rich and punchy and A LOT OF BOTTOM!!!! I can not live without this pedal...I would buy another one in a heartbeat if anything happened to the one I own and i wouldn't settle for the standard...trust me the deluxe is where its at ;) thanks EHX you guys rock!!!!

.I've been looking for a good bass distortion pedal for a long time. This one fits the bill and then some. Not only does it sound wonderful while still preserving the bass's tone, it's extremely versatile. You can apply just about whatever level of distortion you want, and they all sound wonderful. I highly recommend it.

.Been playing bass for 33 years. Recording, gigging, touring. I had an old Bass Big M*ff PI (this formatting keeps me from typing the name of the unit because it senses profanity) that I liked, but this Deluxe model is way better. Blend and Gate knobs are great features. Low/high pass filters are a nice option to be made footswitchable. Not sure when I'd need the DI as most amps have that feature. I can't imagine playing a gig with this as my DI - but I bought this for the distortion. Which can be really rough or really creamy. But blend in that original signal to taste and you never lose your own low-down fundamental.

.I am a novice bass player and this was my first fuzz other than a couple home built experiments. All I can say is WOW!

The range of fuzz on this pedal is insane (in a good way). The blend control really helps to add definition to those low notes that usually get lost in fuzz. The built in noise gate is worth its weight in gold.

The crossover section is a feature that I thought of as just another bell and whistle until I really started messing around with it. Making adjustments to this section can completely change the way the pedal sounds.

I would recommend this pedal to any bass player looking for some fuzz with definition.
Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Bass Big Muff Pi Distortion Effects Pedal
.I would recommend for any musician who dabbles in both guitar and bass. If you set up your board for both of your instruments, this is the pedal for you.

This is a great pedal for any bass player, the gate is a really nice feature. Blend allows for a wide array of sounds, in conjunction with the crossover setting you can get any number of great sounds, from all out fuzz to more subtle break up. You can even dial in some pretty good old green Sovtek sounds with it.

This is also right at home on my guitar pedal board too. With the blend you can dial in some nice bluesy tones on your clean channel leaving your overdrive channel free to be used more to cut through and jump out front on solo parts.

Highly versatile, good quality, and durable. Electro-Harmonix did a great job with this pedal.
