This pedal is great once you realize that all four octaves will be running through the effects part of the pedal all the time, and the direct signal will go through some or all of the effects if you choose it to. It's also great if you are looking to fill out some harmonic space with organ and/or horn sounds. The organ sounds can get pretty authentic, and with the direct signal pushed up you can get a nice boost in volume for horn stabs or lines. This pedal can be as subtle or as over the top as you want it to be.
The only reason I don't give this a ten, is because the preset button only cycles in one direction. So if you have a couple of presets you would like go between it is very impractical to do so in a live situation. So you just have to pick your spots in the song where you want this pedal to shine.
The features all function great. The sliders have just the right amount of resistance. Setting presets is really easy. I just wish there were somehow three foot switches on here, so that you could go up or down through the presets.
You couldn't ask for much more though when it comes to shaping your sound. The Q control is a nice feature when it comes to how much high end you want to hear in the upper octaves, and the ability to preserve your original guitar signal, or having it go through some or all the effects, is great for really dialing in your sound.
Quality seems solid, but I have only had this pedal for about a month. I am only slightly concerned about the sliders over time on my pedal board. Since I use only my presets, I just push all the sliders up and out of the way to avoid any accidents while stomping around onstage. Also this pedal tracks the notes awsomely. So if you hear any weird out of tuneness in the octaves it is really just your guitar and possibly your intonation.
While we all wish we could get stuff cheaper, it's just not going to happen in this case. Once you acquire this pedal though, you will be happy that you did. Also, this is an American Company. How rare is that?

.I got this pedal hoping that my cello would sound like an upright bass. On the plus side, it did sound pretty close at the rehearsal. Unfortunately it stopped working at a gig. OUCH!
The client was not happy. I was not happy.
I wish I had done more research before buying the POG2. Turns out Electro-Harmonix has reliability issues. Especially with their newer products.
I don't mind spending money on useful equipment.
But I can't afford for it to break at a job!

.This isn't a pedal you just BUY. If you're looking at a POG2, you've got all the essentials (Compressor, Drives, Delays, etc...) and want to maximize your tonal capabilities.

I bought this pedal primarily to generate organ sounds; instead, I fell in love with everything else it can do. My favorite presets include the cello, the viola, and the shimmer effect (all provided on the EHX website)- perfect for creating ambient swells and mellow runs.

Bottom Line: This thing is on my board to stay.

.i had the first pog a year ago... i got the pog 2 this morning from musicians friend and its twice as better as i expected... the tracking is better, the sound is better.. its not like a whistle, as the first pog.. the volume swell works really well and the size is perfect. The only thing i didnt like is the look... they should have kept the metal chassis.. but you know how cheap EHX is getting..

.the shimmer tone on this unit is amazing. I like to leave it on with just a hint of shimmer in the background. gives you that real U2 edge sort of feel. the organ sounds are fun but a bit of a novalety

.Versatile, usable in many different musical situations, and you can spend hours entertaining yourself using this pedal. I particularly like the dry signal knob where you determine how wet your guitar signal will be. This pedal will provide a myriad of possibilities.
Purchased this to experiment with and it is unbelievable. All sorts of sonic possibilities from high shimmering octaves, deep bass White Stripes sounding guitar tones, to a full on organ sound.
I believe that it is true bypass and all analog. Definitely fat and warm sounding. Phenomenal sound quality.
This is an expensive pedal but I think that it is worth the buy. An effect like this is serendipitous in that you do not naturally seek it out but stumble upon it like a lost treasure.

.I love the versitility of this pedal. From a simple added octave down to an organ and soooo much in between.

I've got 40+ hours using this pedal and I'm still finding new sounds I can tweak out it.

It sounds great when it's running, and it's invisible when it's off.

I couldn't be happier with this purchase.
A pleathera of sounds at your finger/foot tips!

You can mix a combination of your direct signal, 2 octaves down, 1 octave down, 1 octave up, and two octaves up. As well, you can put your direct signal and/or the octave signals thru a combination of 3 different filters: attack, lo pass and detune. you can also add 3 different levels of Q to the lo pass filter, giving you a bit of envelope filter type of sound.

You can store 8 different presets of your own design, this was one of the biggest selling points for me.

The only disappointment I have with this pedal is that it's not stereo.
It looks and feels well built; it's hard to judge quality until you see it last a few years, but it's quiet, sounds amazing, and looks great.
This pedal is flat out expensive. I think it's worth it; but $300 for a single pedal is very hard to swallow.

What adds to the value is the fact that you can recall 8 different stored settings... this is like having 8 different pedals in one, 9 when you cound the manual setting.

.I bought it to make my guitar sound like a bass and also to sound like a 12 string. I goofed around with it quite a bit and didn't get a sound that was satisfactory to me. I then found help on the EH web site and tried the settings that they recomend with only slightly better results (very digital/fake sounding). However, I did find it very easy to get an amazing organ sound from this pedal. I ended up returning it.
Several features to mess with.
I've heard of the sliders breaking after much use. They seem ok to me if you are not hard on them.
I bit on the pricey side.

.I've probably bought a dozen octave pedals over the years, and this is the only one that has absolute flawless tracking. All the others will "warble" between an octave when two strings an octave apart are plucked. The POG2 is rock steady.

I shied away from the POG2 for years because I had tried the micro POG, and it had tracking problems with the one octave down, and had a tinny sound, and I figured the POG2 would be the same. After going through a dozen pedals, I figured I'd try the POG2, figuring I'd be returning it. But it tracks perfectly, and the tone is very smooth.

The bad news is that it's expensive, and I don't use *any* of the other features. But hey, it's the best octave pedal I've ever used.

I play a standard six string, and have a special pickup that only grabs the to lowest strings - I funnel this through the pedal for a one octave down bass line.

If you're looking for fancy options and all the other stuff this pedal does, can't help you - I don't use it. But if you're looking for the best 1 octave down pedal for a standard 6 string, this pedal's the best

.The Electro-Harmonix POG2 is simply amazing. I've been playing bass for over 15 years but have always wanted to play lead. I'm not really good at guitar, so I bought this to give my bass an octave or two up. It works great, it almost sounds like a guitar! The low pass filter that comes with it helps me achieve even more. The attack effect is sweet too. And the presets, I'm amazed they can do that on such a compact pedal! If you want an octave pedal, this is the one to get. It will take care of all your needs and then some. I may of had to pay a little bit more, but this baby is worth it.
