I think EH got closer than anyone else has to producing a sitar emulation with this one. It does get close if you work with it. It can do some other things too. I just hope EH will put together a site with useful patch settings frrom more research. That will make it worth the price of admission as again, you could spend an eternity trying to master this unit.
If you do need a sitar sound and don't want to invest in buying an electric or converting an existing guitar with a sitar bridge, I think it's worth the scratch.
I bought this to see if I could get that sitar sound without having to actually purchase an electric sitar or a bridge to convert one of my guitars into a sitar. it does a substantial job of producing the tones needed and can get pretty close to the real thing if paired with delay and reverb. One though, you could spend a lot of time mastering this unit as I do think it has a ton of possibilities.
Typical EH. Good stuff as usual.
A bit on the pricier side of EH's pedals but it's a cool toy and I'm a pedal geek so to me it was worth it. I got it with a discount anyway. If you are patient, I guess you could wait until somebody gets bored with one and get it used.

.If you're looking for something deep and complex that really goes outside the box of other guitar synth units, has some Eastern vibe, and can get way more spacey than most would ever desire, here it is.

If you want the authentic sound of a sitar, arranger keyboards with Eastern sounds are closer, or an electric sitar is closer yet, but nothing has yet replaced the real thing.
Needed something to turn my electric guitar into a compelling sitar tone, instead of hauling my electric sitar or real acoustic sitar to gigs. This promised in its description to offer that, with details and elements that past offerings of sitar pedals did not have, such as the controllable drone level, timbre, and tuning. It gives a weird synth-y sitar quality but fails to capture the real nuance of the tone. The drone settings are weird and distracting. It has many interesting deep features, actually too much. It's a complicated pedal and requires a good trip thru the manual. I don't like all the complexity:, two LEDs lite up here or there, mode changes, preset /multifunction buttons and controls, quirky non-intuitive indicators on the numerical LEDS.
Chassis is built ruggedly and nicely appointed/packaged, like all EH units. I would expect the nice paint job to get trashed in a road-touring pedalboard. It has plastic knobs, one of which is a special switch, it felt shaky and I question if it'd hold up on a stage if it got kicked. It seems much more suited to the safe confines of a tone alchemist's laboratory.
It's pricey. I have other EH pedals that offer much more versatility & bang for the buck.

.Excellent pedal, great for bass as well.
Electro-Harmonix The Ravish Sitar Synthesizer Guitar Effects Pedal
.This is more of a novelty pedal that's not for everyone, but for me, this pedal is great. I play in a metal band that incorporates exotic Middle-Eastern sounds, and I use this pedal as the basis of my guitar tone. The drone sounds produced are simnply divine and work great for that psychedelic vibe and creating that exotic ambience. I imagine this pedal would also suit well those making experiemental, world-beat/fusion, or ambient music.

But like I said before, this is probally more of a novelty pedal for most guitar players, who would only use it to cover the main guitar riff of "Paint it Black," so may not be practical for the typical user.

No, it's not going to sound like a sitar 100%, but it comes pretty darn close, closer than anything else I've ever seen. It captures pretty well the "tinny-ness" of a sitar. I imagine it's pretty darn hard to make a guitar sound like a sitar, so if you're looking for an exact sitar sound, then get a sitar.

It's also pretty complex with a bunch of knobs and buttons, which may be intimidating at first, and force you to actually read the manual, but once you've learned how the pedal works, you realize there's tons of features. You can change the key of the drone, which is pretty awesome.

.This is the best in it's class that I've come across. I finally found the sound that I've wanted for a long time. After a very short session of head scratching the box and I just clicked. My first recording with it is still getting me some great comments. It's surprisingly intuitive to use. I haven't had a chance to do everything that I want to yet. I am real curious about using this on a vocal. As a studio Rat I wish that I could get it in a rackmount.I am real fond of this machine. It's not for everyone but for those that are looking for what it can do it will do it real well.

.This pedal is excellent for anybody who wants to inject the sounds of India and the Middle East into their music without learning how to play or buying a sitar. This is as close to the real thing anybody has gotten and it doesn't disappoint. You can get everything from authentic sitar sounds in every key to synth and chorus like sounds. My favorite setting is one where it's just the dry guitar signal with the droning of the sitar like sympathetic strings in the background. Overall, this is a very well designed pedal that you can get unique sounds out of. I would recommend this to anybody who who wants the sounds of the Middle East in a compact pedal. I would pass if you're not interested in the sounds of psychodelia or don't want to spend the money on a pedal that you can't find a practical use for.

.this little box will enlighten your senses, with an aura of sound that seems to resonate through your ears to every part of your soul. i love the ravish sitar for how flexible it is, you want a flange you got it, you want a chorus, you got it, you want organ tones, and a ton more? done! it does come with a little bit of a learning curve but once you read the manuel and play around with it for a while, its really quite amazing what they have made here. it has been just another ticket to perk everyones ears up at my performances.

.Most of the time I stay away for guitar pedals that claim one thing or another. The Ravish Sitar Synthesizer Guitar Effects Pedal is one pedal that lives up to it's claim. It is a great pedal for home and pro studios. It works well in live performence. If you are a composer and write music scores this pedal will work nicely. It works well with other effects. In short it can help shape your sounds and take you places with your music.

.I first attempted to put the Ravish Sitar in front of my iRig HD to play through my Bem speaker, which usually works well for iRig, but no go, have not tried to output iRig to Ravish Sitar then to amp yet. Next late night I hooked my guitar direct to the Ravish Sitar and then to my amp. Viola! Sounds great and as advertised on electro-harmonix YouTube video. I found it sounds better with single coil pickups as on my Strats rather than the humbuckers on my LP.
Electro-Harmonix The Ravish Sitar Synthesizer Guitar Effects Pedal
.There's a bit of a learning curve involved here, it's not intuitive to me, but it should reveal itself fully over time. It's a permanent fixture in my rig, especially cool for drones.
