The Herco nylon pick was the top choice of guitar players when guitar-driven music began its meteoric rise in the mid-1960s. Dunlop is bringing back that pick' classic tone and feel with the Herco Vintage ™66 Series.

Digging deep into Dunlop's vault, they carefully analyzed their collection of original Herco molds and picks from the 1960s. This helped them create the Herco Vintage ™66 Series to such exacting specification that even their own pick experts were at a loss to tell them apart from the originals.

These light picks come in a Bold Gold color. Pack of 6.

Meet my new favorite guitar pick. I have been a fan of nylon picks for a while now and the Gold Vintage '66 is the perfect one for me.

In the past, I've used the Flex 50 picks (also made by Herco), but I always wished they were a little thicker. According to a digital caliper at work, the Flex 50s are in the neighborhood of .70mm thick. These new Gold Vintage '66 offerings are .85mm and are right in the sweet spot for me: thick enough to dig in and get great tone, yet thin enough to flex a bit while strumming. You can still get the "chimey" tone you get from a Flex pick that is turned sideways, since the back of the pick has the same knobby pattern as the Flex line.

I have no idea how accurate these are to the originals but I do believe they are made of different nylon than the Flex line. They feel great coming off the strings and they don't have that awful "click" you get with Tortex-like polymers. They aren't the cheapest picks out there but nylon picks are long lasting and worth the few extra cents.

Picks are one of the easiest and cheapest ways to experiment with your tone, so I urge you to try these and see how they work for you. Highly recommended!

.This Herco Vintage 66' nylon pick is a great reproduction (by Dunlop) of the original. The description says "Light" but with dial calipers it measures approximately .88 and is stiff yet slightly flexible. I use it mostly for picking and lead, but can also strum in between. It releases the strings smoothly and has the ability to sound bright or subdued depending on how hard or soft you play. I love that I don't get that annoying "click" that many other picks produce. The gripping surface is excellent, I like the shape (slightly different than standard picks) and these wear better than most pick materials, so they last along time. Everyone has an opinion, but Dunlop/Herco nylon picks have become my picks of choice.
