My first impression when taking this out of the case was wow, this is exactly what I was hoping for, a satin finish. The neck, fret board and body are all satin finished. I detest lacquered necks as found on some high end guitars. This is hard to see on the website and sales staff I talked to did not really know, thru no fault of there own. They can't know every product they sell.
The walnut is of very high quality and the finish is very well done. The setup out of the box was very good on this guitar and I have done very little tweaking. I took the bridge cover off so I could palm mute when needed and set the PU's where I like them and that's about it. The neck is a little narrower than most and will take some getting used to although not a lot. Some will not like how close both E strings are to the edges of the fret board but it's not a deal breaker.
The sound of the guitar is unique and you can get many different sounds by playing with and learning how to use the blend knob in some cases and just blending normally with the volumes. The Rickenbacker website has this info if you care to look it up. This guitar is good for most styles of music with exception of knarly trashy stuff.
I'm playing this through a RP500 digitech and a Mackie 1604 VLZ in stereo mode currently. Have not tried it thru my tubes amps yet but am sure it will sound great. I've only had this guitar for about 3 months but it will be a keeper. I've been playing for over 50 years and currently own Fenders,Gibsons ,Carvins,Agiles,Martins,Takamines, and several Epiphones. This ranks up there with the top 3 or 4 best that I have owned over the years.
If your on the fence about owning a Walnut Rickenbacker, don't be, this is a very nice guitar. Plus it doesn't have a lacquer finish which is a bonus to me. Try one I don't think you will be disappointed. I hope this review was helpful. Good day.
