This is a great sounding banjo, especially for bluegrass. I have owned an arch top for years, and its warm tone is just right for following old- timey fiddling and country. However I wanted something with a real bright tone for bluegrass, and my b17 fills the bill. My only compaints are the ends of some of the frets have slight burrs from being cut off; not enough to scratch but you can still feel them. The fretbaord inlays are fancy shaped but lack luster; the abalone on the headstock is gorgeous The "engraving" on the armrest is something they punched in while manufacturing, and looks like a series of dots; looks kinda strange until you get under lights, and then each little dot sparkes. Overall a great looking and sounding banjo. case is extra deluxe

.Played good, beginner banjo for over a year and bought the B-17 when I realized I would be committed. Was struck by the high volume, which got much louder after it was set up and tightened properly. I see no advantage of much more expensive banjos. This is one for forever. I like its ornateness, but this is not for everyone. Down the road I will probably replace the tail piece. Some I talked to preferred their banjo over this for very marginal or purely personal reasons. I still use my beginner Washburn simply because it weighs about one fifth as much. The B-17 has a true bell quality brass tone ring which ensures a beautiful, large sound.

.If you can find one, buy it. It will last you the rest of your life.
Quality is solid throughout. No corners were cut in putting this banjo together.
This instrument will not disappoint. Tuning is crisp all the way up the fretboard. Comes with tiny railroad spikes for capoing. Finish on the resonator is gorgeous and the tone quality is rich and full of pluck. Cant seem to put this baby down.
A few days after I ordered this, the price went up $200. On other websites, the same banjo is selling for $500 more. Am i happy with what i got for my money. I think so.

.The Washburn B17 - B16 Banjos are top quality instruments in todays market for the money spent. No other brand such as Fender or Epiphone will match it in features or total all around perfection. Try them all out side by side and you will choose the Washburn for it's sound and appearance.

.I was surprised at how much nicer this Washburn B17 Banjo is compared to what I was expecting for its price. All of my banjo player friends had the same reaction. This is my first Banjo but I've played alot of others that cost more and weren't as butter smooth as this one. The biggest comments I hear, Other than the atractive looks, are about how silky smooth the action is. This one's a winner for sure. Like any new instrument, just to make it all me, I'll need to do some minor setting up. I couldn't be happier.

.I bought this banjo used, and put medium gauge strings on it. It has great tone, can project a lot of sound, and is very easy to play. It is definitely built more for scruggs-style picking common in traditional bluegrass. I can sort of play old-time clawhammer on this banjo, but it doesn't really sound right. It sounds fantastic all the way up and down the neck and mine keeps its tuning very well. It also looks gorgeous with the carved heel and headstock and the fancy pearl inlay. This is my second banjo and the one that really got me into playing bluegrass music. Highly recommended- expensive but worth the extra money.

.Little heavy for most beginers. For the price grab it while it's at a low price. You want be disappointed at all.

.I have five other banjo's, one a 1982 Washburn B16, so I had expectations when I ordered the B17. Upon arrival the B17/Case was doubled boxed. I opened the boxes and was impressed by the appearance of the banjo. Upon inspection I discovered three factory flaws in the fretboard. I contacted Custom Guitars Friend, and as always was told that they would gladly replace the banjo, which they did. Upon receiving the replacement banjo I inspected the instrument, tuned the strings, and made a minor adjustment to the bridge. The B17 is a fancy, carved, and embellished gold colored plated B16. I am expecting the B17 to sound as good as my vintage B16 after the strings settle in. It is really impressive looking, but for new banjo players be aware that this is a heavy banjo (well built). Custom Guitars Friend's Service is second to none, they want you to be satisfied. I always recommend Custom Guitars Friend to everyone I know.
