The Inspired By 1964 Texan is literally a great find in low priced acoustic electric dreadnoughts!!! I am amazed at the quality and sound it has at this price point ?? Solid Sitka spruce and solid mahogany back , with laminate mahogany sides, with a sound that emulates a much more expensive guitar. It is loud and bright and sonorous, very punchy hog sound. I have many expensive acoustics ,big brand name guitars, and this one is not too far behind in producing great clarity and articulation in all catagories. Took it to my guitar tech to have bone nut and bridge installed and he informed me that it had a bone nut and bridge already on it . WOW !! Thank you Gibson /EE-Epiphone-e for the nice factory surprise. Added bone bridge pins and it sounds fantastic!! The shadow pick up is also nice.This is one of the best value acoustics I have ever encountered.I am blown away with this purchase, bought it for my son;in order for him not to mess with my Gibsons, Martins, and Bourgeious guitars and now am keeping it for myself. I will get him another , this one is special!! Fit and finish is great, and bracing makes it zing, will play on stage with this Texan ,along with my expensive acoustics. Check one out for yourself. .I was pleasantly suprised at the sound and feel of this guitar. I have tried many low cost acoustics before, but none that I would actually consider gigging with. The Shadow pickup and pre-amp sound very good. The guitar has a pretty big tone considering the price. The only thing that I was really disapointed with, was the quality of the tuners and the setup. The nut needed to be shimmed and re-cut, the bridge saddle needed to be shaved and the stock tuners were pretty much useless. The low E popped and skipped teeth when trying to tune to pitch. Had it not been for these two issues, I would have rated it a 5 star. I would like to see EE-Epiphone-e upgrade the tuners, set it up right at the factory and I would glady pay more for it. Despite the issues, this one is a keeper.

.Well. I wanted to wait for a $1000 dollar range guitar. But I realized I would have to wait years before I can afford that. So I took a risk with the Texan. I couldn't be more pleased. Tone, feel, everything about this guitar was as good (some cases better) as many $1000 price range guitars I've tested and played. I had to get adjust the intonation on the guitar. And found out that there is a strange material for the nuts. It's not bone but it is as dense as bone. Which that's a huge plus for me.
The only thing I don't like is how 1 or 2 stupid reviews ruin what should be a 5 star guitar.
If you want a 1000 dollar sounding guitar for more than half the price. The EE-Epiphone-e Texan is the way to go!

.I've been wanting a non-cutaway acoustic/electric, and wanting to try a slope-shoulder acoustic, too. I love cowboy guitars, but can't afford a real Gibson, so I gave this a try.
With the solid top and back, I was expecting more volume. It's a little flat, and new-sounding. I'm trying to have the patience to keep this and let the wood cure and get louder over time. Also, I've had a luthier look at it and it definitely needs a fret-dress. The 4th and 8th frets are causing some buzzing, and the action is fairly high now.
The nut, bridge and end pins look horribly cheap plastic, so I'm going to replace all those in a few months. That might help the tone. The low E especially has a dull non-sustainy thud when played, which is a bummer. Maybe new nut and end pins will help that. The A rings out much nicer.
It is a beautiful guitar, and so cool vintage looking. I guess I wish it didn't have such a thick poly finish, even though it looks nice, so the wood could breathe a bit more.
The neck is thicker than most modern acoustic necks, so that's something to consider.
The pickup is a nice touch, and sounds good. I like that Epi put the neck strap button on. I got the sunburst, and it is very lovely in natural and stage light...the stock pictures really don't do it justice at all. It's a unique burst, but I like it.

.I totally lucked-out and scored this from musciansfriend for two hundred & fifty-five & nineteen pennies because it was a Return with finish issues. I personally wouldn't pee-pee on a Gibson if it was on fire, but I took a chance on this thing merely because I wanted the vanity of owing a solid top guitar and this was the only way it was going to happen, lol.
My guess is that this top and back are from Gibson stock that didn't make the AAA grade, so they gave it to EE-Epiphone-e and said go for it. And because of that us poor folk have came into quite a jim dandy guitar at a budget price.
Mine came with way, WAY too high action and neck relief, but that was easily cured. For sure the nut, saddle, and bridge pins are plastic and I'll be replacing mine with Tusq just to see out of curiosity if it's a big jump in quality of sound. I can assure you that the bracing is nicely thin and scalloped CORRECTLY. I point that out because of how some guitars go overkill and put thick log bracing in the top in order for the guitar to outlast the warranty for the top getting a 5/8 inch "belly," lol!
And on the "belly," mine apparently has a built in 3/32 inch one built in to it; as it stayed that way with strings off and weighted down heavily while I thoroughly humidified the guitar for 3 days. But I'm not worried about putting 13s on this and any increase belly down the road, because I'm putting a JLD Bridge Doctor in this guitar.
I will say I'm disappointed that they thickly poly coated this guitar... but you can't have it all, hey? All in all I say get one of these even if you have to pay six-thirty after tax at a store, but certainly go for it at three ninety-nine at musciansfriend, as you'll be glad you did.
As to the electronics I don't give a hoot and am not qualified to thumbs up or down the "NanoFlex" thingy installed in this guitar. I will say it works without noise and mines wires were secured nicely. There IS a "Phase" button hidden under the Treble control dial, and it's very awkward to get to, and I've no idea if that button pushed down is "in phase" or "out phase," and the included EE-Epiphone-e manual does not say.
Do be aware that for this price these guitars don't come "setup." So get ready for some arm and wrist numbing sanding of the saddle and nut. And do remove that wooden shim that's under the pizzo pickup in the bridge's saddle slot.
And yes the tuners are a joke, but criminey-out-loud this is a quality solid back and front guitar so I'm not complaining and will gladly go fourty-seven buckaroos in to get some nice 19:1 babies on there.

.I bought this guitar in Antique Natural 2 months ago. It was built in Indonesia in January of 2014 and boy did I get a good one. It is astounding how good this thing looks, feels and sounds. It is as loud as it is articulate. The laminate sides are high quality laminate that serve the purpose of ensuring this instrument doesn't crack over time, but you get the solid top and back to really help drive the killer tone this guitar delivers.
Whether you use your fingers or a pick (or a combination of both) this guitar delivers perfectly on all fronts.
The action was perfect right out of the box...nice and low with absolutely no buzz.
I'm so glad I bought this guitar. There's literally nothing I don't like about it.

.I have to say when I first got this thing I was not impressed at all, it was very bright w/no bottom end. I changed the tuners and put some ebony pins in and the pins seemed to tame the brightness a bit. O truss rod needed relief to make it playable, and after that she got better I still was not impressed w/the sound. The only thing I can figure is it needed to be played a lot because it finally open up and sounds really nice. I compared it w/a j35 I played recently recorded both guitars, and they are pretty close j35 has more bottom end and plays better to me due to the shorter scale length. For the money prolly the best alternative to the J series gibson. I almost sold it to buy Epi masterbuilt, but now the guitar has opened up it sounds better in my opinion than the materbuilt and I prefer the gloss finish. The finish is pretty thick and it protects it and doesn't scratch and ding as easy as a satin finish does, but that's personal preference I dig it. The pickup is no baggs or fishman, but it's not bad not the most natural sound I've heard but not bad either. I think the amp most likely will cause feedback problems I've had good results w/the loudbox mini, but my orange amp has a lot of feedback but the orange is not an acoustic amp. Overall a very good guitar if you take the time and effort to play around w/ it and wait for it to open up. Happy playing out there! ✌️

.I received this guitar Oct-2nd 2015. Out of the box the action did need a bit of attention, One half turn on the truss rod and a little sanding of the saddle and 20 minutes later perfect action. The sound is awsome and vintage. .I own two very good (much more expensive) acoustic guitars. I wanted something with comparable tone and volume that could I could take anywhere (a tall order). Well, I played many low-end guitars and was not at all happy with any of them. Then, I happened upon this one and I must say that it is an incredible value. If it were my only guitar I would be happy. It is not as good as either of my other two guitars but it fits the bill exactly for what I had in mind.

.This is a beautiful looking, great sounding acoustic/electric guitar with a fantastic price. ALTHOUGH, mine came with an unbearably high action, a truss-rod that was improperly adjusted, the finish was dull in some spots and had sanding scratches, slight buzz at the 15th fret when playing between the 10th and 14th frets, and a nearly dead battery in the pre-amp. Luckily I was able to fix the truss rod issue (it was tightened in the wrong direction, if you have this problem loosen it all the way until it feels free and keep turning in the same direction until it begins to tighten again). After being tightened about 1 full turn it was nice and low. I filed the frets down evenly, eliminating the 15th fret buzz, replaced the battery, and polished the dull spots. Now it plays like a dream. I may have only had a bad specimen, I don't think they're all this way. It's not MF's fault, and I know they would have replaced it had I called them (I know from past experiences that Custom Guitar's Friend has fantastic customer service), but I like having a little project now and then. Overall, this is a great guitar, and if you buy one and have any problems, just let MF know and they will be happy to help you out. Don't let this review discourage you too much. This is my go-to acoustic for all of my needds. This is probably the best acoustic/electric under $1,000.
