Product Features

When you're ready play live, the PRO-1 Ultra can plug into any size PA or amplifier with the Shadow Performer preamp and NanoFlex pickup system, the same pickup system found in EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e's legendary Masterbilt guitars as well as many other classic EE-EE-Epiphone-e-es. The PRO-1 Ultra also features a solid Spruce top for superior sound with beautiful 5-layer ivory and black binding just like EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e's vintage classics along with all of the PRO Collection's breakthrough innovations. EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e, one of the world's oldest and most respected guitar makers, has just made playing and learning guitar easy for everyone.

Designed by Professionals to be easy to play
Creating a truly easy-to-play guitar wasn't easy. EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e takes making a great guitar seriously, no matter what the player's level. So EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e rethought the guitar from top to bottom to make an instrument that anyone can play right away. The result is a truly "PRO" guitar that's easy-to-play, easy-to-own, and most importantly, delivers the full, vibrant sound EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e is known for. The PRO-1 Ultra acoustic/electric guitar is the result of exhaustive analysis, numerous technological innovations, and suggestions from a "who's who" of professional players. And now it's time to plug in and play.

Less fatigue
Wrap your hand around the PRO-1 Ultra neck and you'll immediately feel how comfortable it is. The new EZ-Profile neck is designed so your hand can easily form chords without feeling fatigued.

Effortless Fretting
EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e JumboPRO frets make fretting notes and chords seem effortless. JumboPRO frets are taller and wider than smaller frets. So, when you push down a string, it's easier to make string contact with the fret with less hand fatigue and finger friction.

Shorter is Easier
Scale length is the distance from the saddle to the nut. The shorter the scale length, the "looser" the strings feel. Because the PRO-1's scale length is almost 1" shorter than most acoustic guitars, the strings are under less tension so you don't have to press hard to get good tone. And - since the frets are closer together-- making chords is easier!

Make friction fiction
String and fingerboard friction not only slows your playing but also can hurt. The PRO-Ease string and fingerboard coating provides sleek, smooth action with reduced string noise.

No pain, no gain?
Nonsense-EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e believes in "no pain." Lighter gauge strings are easier to play so every PRO-1 is set-up and equipped with EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e Ultra-Light strings.

Easy action
With EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e's Dual-Action truss rod, you can adjust the neck in both directions, which not only stabilizes the neck but also makes set-up easier and more precise.

I got this guitar as a learning guitar for my daughter. Out of the box it was set up well, just needing a quick tune to be ready to play. It sounds good either plugged in or unplugged. Two quibbles about the guitar I received. According to the EE-Epiphone-e web-site, the electronics are supposed to be a shadow performer preamp with a nanoflex pickup. The Shadow Performer line of pre-amps come in a variety of iterations, but the one epiphone shows on its web-site is the shadow performer tuner model, which includes a built in chromatic tuner. The pre-amp actually installed on the guitar does not have the chromatic tuner, but rather what appears to be the "double-play" slider, which is supposed to be used to blend between a bridge mounted nanoFlex pickup and a fingerboard mounted nanoMag pickup. Since I don't believe this guitar includes the NanoMag pickup, I don't see any advantage in having the slider, and would rather have the chromatic tuner instead. I also kind of don't like the "end-pin" jack, as it is a non-standard "button" size for attaching a strap. I would prefer to have a standard strap pin button on the end, and have the jack mounted elsewhere.

.Guitar played fine right out of the box, shipped to local retailer, Setup Tech was impressed that it needed no adjustment. Having had two hand surgeries I find the instrument does require less pressure on the strings which makes playing easier.Guitar has a bright sound quality. The Shadow Performer Series and the tuning pegs take a little getting use to.. Although EE-Epiphone-e recommends the Pro1 strings the EXP 12 sounds better.

.I bought this as a second "practice" guitar for a couple of reasons: price, scale length, onboard electronics and it being a solid top guitar. I like the jumbo frets. Never used them before, but they do reduce finger fatigue some. Sounds is decent and the fact that it is a solid top means it should mellow and warm with age, so I expect it to continue to improve. Fit and finish are good. Frets are not sharp on the ends or rough. Fingerboard is nice. Setup was good. Intonation was spot on. No truss rod work was necessary out of the box (tuning was awful, though).

But...
1) The onboard tuner is awkward and confusing and even a bit hard to read.
2) Guitar tuning keys are... unimpressive. I have a Yamaha that has terrific tuners and it was an inexpensive guitar that sells for less than this one. I guess it set a high bar. This one requires more tuning than I expected it would. While I've seen worse (Squier Bullet Strat, anyone?), I will replace these tuners.
3) The neck. I kept reading how this neck was the right size... not too small, not too big, precisely engineered to be comfortable. There are guitars that are worse... no doubt about it. But on a scale of 1-10, it's a 5. And the sticky, lacquered back of the neck... just don't care for it. Feels cheap. Not terribly comfortable. I wish the neck were smaller and more comfortable -- again, the cheaper Yamaha set a high bar. I also don't like the sticky feeling of it.

It's a fine guitar, but I am going to use it was an acoustic beater, loaner and backup. I find it plays well and sounds good, but I hesitate to say it accomplished everything it touts when EE-Epiphone-e says it's "precisely engineered" to be comfortable to play. It's above average, but uninspired... I give it a B-.

.This guitar was on back orders for months. I wish that I knew what a inferior instrument this thing was, I would have got something else. I traded it in on a Martin.
Epiphone PRO-1 ULTRA Acoustic-Electric Guitar Wine Red
.Bought this for a student of mine as I select guitars for them. EE-Epiphone-e blanketed the universe with advertising about all of the research, science and professional input that went into the design of this questionable assemblage of wood products and by products.
Had had one of the first generation which was a great sounding starter, much like the Wechter Maple Lake series.
This one isn't just flat, it's dead. No chime. Headstock has been bent back very far for the shortened scale length, it is hard to get a consistent spot-on note. Chords sound ghastly, even with the instrument "in tune."
Not easy on beginning fingers with rudimentary chording on the first through third frets. Couldn't get a decent sounding "A" to save my life. Even fret-ease couldn't help save my man's fingers (a disabled vet.)
As far as service goes, MF is just as great as could be; Sara is the best and is working on a substitute as I write this. They truly value your satisfaction.
Where we live on The Outer Banks, music stores aren't within access to try these out first.
Thanks for the opportunity to express my opinion, I do hope that others have greater success, maybe this is just a lemon.

.I purchased one of these online for a student. Low frets on bass strings were 15 cents sharp. Awful. Chords don't sound in tune. I sent it back. MF said they would check out the replacement before they sent it to us but they obviously didn't. The 2nd instrument had the same exact problem. I've generally been happy with MF but this deal has been a disaster. I should know better than to buy an acoustic without trying it first. I asked for a refund and will go to Guitar Center and pick out a different model or manufacturer.

.bought for my son and he plays longer and enjoys practice more than with his other guitars. I also enjoy this fine quality guitar and hope the strings become more readily available!
