EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e presents the new Ltd. Ed. SG-Special-I, a great way for new players to get started on electric guitar at a price anyone can afford. The SG-Special-1 has the same classic “SG” tone, look, and feel that’s gone virtually unchanged over 50 years and players from all genres around the world recognize the “SG” as a one of the best and most distinctive electric guitars ever made. But seasoned pros will also love the new Ltd. Ed. SG Special-1 for its powerful Ceramic Open Coil humbuckers and smooth easy-to-play Mahogany SlimTaperTM neck. Plus, the Ltd. Ed. SG-Special-1 comes in three beautiful classic color finishes, Cherry, Ebony, and Pelham Blue.

The Ltd. Ed. SG Special-1 joins the fan-favorite Special-1 Series designed to bring superior sound and historic EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e-style to players just starting out as well as to veterans who want a “workhorse” guitar to take on the road that’s lightweight but makes no compromise in electronics and hardware.

The “SG” profile is one of the most recognized in rock & roll. First introduced in the early 1960s, “SG” guitars have been the driving force behind Heavy Metal, Hard Rock, jam bands, and British rock. And now with the Ltd. Ed. SG-Special-I, EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e fans around the world can enjoy owning and playing a real EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e “SG” at a great price.

The Ltd. Ed. SG Special-1 has a Mahogany body cut to the historic SG profile and a bolt-on Mahogany neck featuring the same SlimTaperTM profile enjoyed by owners of iconic EE-EE-Epiphone-e-es like the Les Paul Standard and the Casino. The Mahogany neck has a Rosewood fingerboard with 22 easy-to-press medium jumbo frets with pearloid dot inlays, just like vintage SGs. Even though new players might favor the Ltd. Ed. SG Special-1, this SG boasts many of the same specifications found on all SGs including 1.68” nut and a 24.75” scale length.

The new Ltd. Ed. SG Special-1 is powered by an EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e Ceramic 700TTM Open Coil humbucker in the bridge or lead position and an EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e Ceramic 650RTM Open Coil humbucker in the neck or rhythm position. Ceramic pickups have been a favorite of Hard Rock and Metal players for decades. Ceramic magnets became more readily available in the late 60s and early 70s just as guitar players were incorporating overdrive and distortion into their sound. Ceramic pickups have a sharp, articulate, and saturated tone that’s a perfect compliment to the SG Special-1’s Mahogany body. Pickup selection is made via a standard 3-way pickup selector and controls include Master Volume and Master Tone, both with classic Black “Speed” Knobs.

The Ltd. Ed. SG-Special I has EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e’s world renown rock-solid hardware including a heavy duty 1/4” jack, easy-turning machine heads with a pro 15:1 tuning ratio, and a classic wrap-around bridge and tailpiece compensated for reliable intonation.

I have been without an SG for too many years! I started playing Strats and Teles, and moved away from my SG's. So I thought I'd take a chance on this Epi. I'd forgotten what a rock and roll machine an SG is... this thing is a blast to play! The neck is straight and the frets are level with smooth ends, and the strings are properly lined up on the fretboard. Everything works, and there are no finish blemishes or flaws in workmanship. I don't care for the slick finish on the back of the neck, but some folks like them that way. The tuners are economy jobs, but they function and can be replaced if desired. The truss rod turns freely, although it was backed out as far as the access hole would permit. After a setup, all was well, except for a slightly flat intonation on the "A" string, and the bridge/saddle cannot move any closer. This thing sounds great through a tube amp, rock and roll heaven! And oh yes, first order of business, change the strings.

.I just got this. I really like it, and I have a bunch of other guitars, but this really draws me in.

I'd emphasize that this is very good without much adjustment. Sure, you can replace and modify parts, and I probably will. I just want you to know you can like it fine as it is.

I have the Pelham Blue one, which really is outstanding on the SG contours.

.Fit and finish was very good except for some rust on the cheap strings. After some polishing of the strings it was ready to play. Good intonation. That is very good as there is no adjustment on it. string height was on target. Playability and sound was good. Tuners are very sloppy and hard to keep in tune.Overall it is a good little guitar for the price and with a new set of strings and new tuners it will serve you well.

.I just got the guitar in the mail yesterday, so these are just my initial impressions. I will update this review after I get a little more experience playing with the guitar.

All I can say is that I cannot believe how great this guitar feels. Sure, the material, pickups, bolt-on neck, and a few other cosmetic things are not the best quality compared to some higher-end guitars, but this thing feels pretty dang close to a higher-end epiphone/similar type of guitar. It's crazy light, the neck is very fast and smooth to play. The guitar came set up perfectly that I didn't have to make any adjustments to the action or anything. The pelham blue finish looks great too. I also got myself a nice little Orange Crush 35RT, and I could not be happier with this setup. Both the guitar and amp are just super simple and straightforward plug in and play. I like everything from Chet Atkins, Black Sabbath, CCR, Black Keys, Ty Segall, Electric Wizard, Slayer, T. Rex, Weezer, RHCP, Beatles, White Stripes, Rolling Stones, Nirvana, Ry Cooder, etc. And I can get all of these tones for these bands relatively easy whether that be some nice country twang to some bluesy grit all the way to all out stoner/doom/garage rock fuzz.

This guitar is a keeper for sure, and I plan to modify it a little more to my liking by upgrading the tuners. If you're a new guitar player or someone with a little more experience, who needs a first guitar or a backup guitar, I would highly recommend this thing, especially for this price, which is a steal. The "cheap" guitars do not feel cheap any more, and this guitar is proof of a high quality product at a low-level/affordable price. I am super happy with this purchase, and I felt like I just got my first guitar when I was just 10 or 12 years old when I plugged it in. This thing is super fun to play, I didn't pay too much for it, so I'm not too worried about it getting a little banged up. Get one if you can!

.I bought this guitar two months ago and I absolutely love it. I can get nice low action on it without fret buzzing. I like the simple wraparound bridge, not a lot to fiddle around with. It stays in tune well, I had to change the cheap plastic but though. The pickups are decent, sound better with distortion than clean. I find the Pelham blue finish to be gorgeous. Would buy another one if lost.

.This guitar is a steal! Immediately I was blown away by the great tone that came out of this low budget beauty. The pelham blue paintjob is stunning and the body is light as a feather. The action required a little bit of adjustment on the bridge but after a few turns on the tune o' matic posts, it was right where I wanted it. They are not kidding around when they say this is a great guitar for beginners and long time players alike. I have been playing for 20 years and while I'm yet to shell out 800 on an axe, I like to think I know a good guitar when I play one and this thing rocks. You might want to change the strings immediately though as the ones it shipped with did not do it any favors and it played and sounded amazing after slapping on a fresh set of 10s.

.Bought this for my son and he loves it. It sounds good, especially for the price. Very light weight and easy action.

.I bought this using an MF discount code. This is a sleeper instrument. Construction is very good - the neck is straight, frets are nicely rounded, and the high gloss red finish looks great. Pickups, tuners, and electronics are not Gibson quality and should not be expected to be such on a guitar in this price range, but they are quite adequate for my intended use with a Line 6 Sonic Port and emulation software. It sounds "OK" through an amp, pedals, and processors, but does fall short of a Gibson here. The bolt on neck is fine - these are actually more forgiving than a set neck could be in instruments in this price range. After I performed a set up, the bass and treble string spacings at the 12th fret are both 2/32" with no fret-outs or string buzz. No truss rod adjustment was required. There is adequate adjustment to the "Melody Maker" bridge to allow for good action height adjustment and intonation. There is no capability for individual string intonation, but the saddle castings are compensated and there are treble and bass adjustments for the bridge against the posts. Using a very sensitive tuner, 5 of the 6 strings are intonated perfectly, with only the G being off by about 2 cents. Given a competent set-up, this is an excellent value.

.This guitar is a beautiful piece to own. Sounds great. Fret buz, but as soon as i adjusted the bridge didnt have a problem. Bought the blue, i recommend it, rather than the red or black. The color is beautiful. Great for beginners but also for people who have been playing for years. Iv been playing for 10+ years and i think you cant go wrong with this guitar. EE-Epiphone-e all the way. Love it and very glad i bought it. To top it off i got it in the mail in TWO days. Anyone who cant decide if they should buy it, DO IT, you wont be disappointed.

.I had to go through three of these to finally get one that was good. First one had pits in the head-stock real bad. Second one had bad volume pot. Thanks Custom Guitar's Friend for checking this one before sending it. It's very light-weight and love the tone. The blue has a beautiful finish. It was definitely worth the wait. EE-Epiphone-e has got to work on there quality control.
