I am using the GT001 for home recording and so far am extremely pleased with it. It is very compact and so can go either on a desk surface or the floor. I do not use this for playing out, but it seems to be built like a truck; for gigging, the only problem I would anticipate is its light weight. Unlike many very small devices that tend to have a lot of "secret codes" to remember in their user interfaces, this one is very intuitive and easy to use. I replaced a Line6 POD X3 with this (because of reliability issues and the clunky Line6 user interface), and find the Boss unit much easier to dial in. For those who like a printed manual, the one supplied is small but pretty good, and it's easy to find what you want. The GT001 controls are thoughtfully designed, and the display is quite useful despite being rather small. The presets are nicely done, although (as has been mentioned here) they tend to be heavy on the distortion. Happily, this is easy to change. The ability to change details of each effect as well as their order in the signal chain is good, and nicely implemented in the user interface. For recording, the ability to grab both the clean and effected signals is a big plus. In all, an excellent piece of gear at a very reasonable price. In case it's not clear from the sales page and from what others have written, this unit is the GT100 in a (much) smaller package, for much less money. If you're intending to use it for recording, this is a clear choice and a real bargain. If you are going straight from this unit to an audio interface or computer, the interface is USB only (no Firewire or Thunderbolt), but works just fine.

.This is a metal heads dream. The younger musician schooled in simple programming will have tons of choices. Old-timers like me lack the programming skills and patience.

.I did Digi, I did Zoom, I even did Arion back in the day... but this one... SO versatile, SO dynamic... Tiny little desktop unit that sounds like it should be in a six-foot cabinet. Any tone you want... Gibbons, Hendrix, Richards, Van Halen, Allman, and everything in between. I put an old Kramer and a Les Paul Traditional into it, and it spit back the best sounds I ever heard from my old workhorses. Thought I was happy when I got it a few weeks ago... but it just keeps exceeding my expectations. The Boss Tonelab software is just awesome... I'm done shopping for effects. Finally!

.I have many nice amplifier (Mesa Mark V, Carr Slant 6, Dr Z Maz 38) but get tired of using a direct box or trying to mic everything for recording. This box records very well. You can get the effected signal and a clean signal at the same time to 2 different channel in your DAW. This is great for using other software amplifiers. Very Happy with this unit.
