With the VO-1, BOSS has made the vocoder straightforward and incredibly simple to use. First off, it connects to your rig like any other pedal. The only additional connection needed is a microphone, which you’ll use to drive the VO-1’s vocoder engine when using the first three modes. After that, just turn on the effect, tweak the knobs, and vocalize into the mic as you play. Don’t worry—you don’t even need to be able to sing in tune. You handle all the pitch control with your hands as normal, while the VO-1 applies the complex formant characteristics of your voice to the tone in real time. The VO-1 also features an effect loop for patching in external effects, plus a Blend knob for mixing vocoder and straight tones together.

this is a very good sounding vocorder pedal, can even do harmonies if you play the inversions you want on the guitar, keys, etc. BUT...... if you actually sing live, it blows me away that this pedal does NOT have a mic out/thru jack?????? What were they thinking!!! Why just appeal to a intrumentalist that does not sing live??? that's what you do with a vocorder....you sing into it! so to use it with your live vocal mic, you have no way to out to continue your mic line back to the PA!?!?! Duh.....pretty stupid. How much more could that cost! the only way to do it is to split the mic signal, but then you have to rely on the sound man to turn the PA mic line off when you are using the pedal?????? .The size is perfect to put it on my pedalboard, the sound is excellent and it is very easy to use. The convenience of having a vocoder in this format is the maximum!
