Product Features

The essence of the playing experience lives within the rosewood/spruce 800 Series. With the debut of its comprehensive redesign in 2014, master guitar designer Andy Powers took what was already ’s flagship guitar series and deployed an array of voicing enhancements, ranging from customized bracing and wood thicknesses for each body style to the use of protein glues and ultra-thin finish, to bring out another level of musicality. Together, these refinements deliver much more than the sum of their parts. For everyone from pros to hobbyists, they make the playing experience more expressive, inspiring and fun.

Like all 800 Series s, the 814ce Grand Auditorium comes with Expression System 2 electronics and ships in a deluxe hardshell case.

Grand Auditorium
A original, the Grand Auditorium helped establish the acoustic sound. The popular body style makes for a versatile guitar that yields ample volume in response to light fingerpicking, and reacts to medium strumming and flatpicking with a clear, balanced sound across the tonal spectrum. If you want a great all-purpose guitar, the GA is an excellent choice. 's popular 814ce offers players the ultimate all-purpose guitar. Its balance, warmth and articulation are great for fingerstyle, it has enough punch as a strummer to front a band, and the top-end power will fuel lead runs without getting shrill. It's a great choice for a gigging player looking for one guitar that can cover it all.

Tonewoods
A guitar's top is the primary filter and distributor of vibrating string energy through the guitar, which means it has a huge impact on its sound. Sitka Spruce is the most prevalent guitar top wood of the modern era. It blends stiffness and elasticity in just the right proportions which translates into broad dynamic range with crisp articulation. Brazilian rosewood remains a prized tonewood in the guitar world based on a hallowed heritage that traces back to the much-celebrated pre-war era of guitar building along with its scarcity due to longtime legal restrictions on its harvesting and export. The dense hardwood boasts striking visual appeal and a richly musical tone profile. Attributes include a crisp, clear, often bell-like ringing tone, especially in the treble frequencies; a warm and resonant low end; luxurious overtones that yield a wonderful complexity and sustain; and strong volume and responsiveness.

Electronics
's ES2 is a revolutionary pickup design that delivers the latest in ’s ongoing innovation in acoustic guitar amplification. The heart of the Expression System 2 is ’s patented behind-the-saddle pickup, which features three uniquely positioned and individually calibrated pickup sensors. Because the pickup doesn't sit under the saddle, the bottom of the saddle comes in full contact with the bridge, allowing all the nuance of the guitar's tone to come through clearly whether playing acousticly or plugged-in. The location of the sensors enables a more dynamic range of acoustic sound to be captured than ever before while playing plugged-in. Together with ’s custom-designed “professional audio”-grade preamp, this system produces exceptional amplified tone and responsiveness. On stage through a PA, plugged into your favorite acoustic amplifier, or direct into recording software, the Expression System 2 faithfully conveys the voice of your guitar. The Expression System 2 operates through a proprietary 9-volt battery compartment and easy-to-use volume, and active bass and treble controls.

Other features
Custom-calibrated wood thicknesses and bracing for each body shape, 3.5 mil finish thickness, protein glue (bracing and bridge), rosewood pickguard, rosewood top trim, single ring abalone rosette edged with rosewood, pearl "Element" fingerboard inlay, maple binding (non-figured).

The Difference

I own 8 acoustic guitars and have played for over 30 years. The new 814 has a range that rivals my 22 year old Chaylor Dred 12 string. Plugged into my Live Pod XT, it blows the elder away. My favorite style is finger picking backup fills. The wider nut allows for smoother fingering and the Chaylor Geometry creates what I feel is the easiest playing and most comfortable guitar on the planet .. yes, I have a Zager easy play 80 .. it plays easy but doesn't have the dynamic capability of a Chaylor. Out of the box, the 814 was already eager to amaze. The sustain is like nothing I have ever experienced. I have all of my acoustics mounted on the wall in my music room. I sneezed on the other side of the room and the 814 began to hum .. what more can I say!

.Bought the Private Reserve. Cosmetics are equal to my 2 other Chaylors' - body is glossy and the neck natural. The pick guard is unusual, but doesn't deter from the sound. I've got a Fall Limited from a few years back (Grand Auditorium model as well) and I would say that the main difference in sound is that the bass is more pronounced in the 814 with the Rosewood vs. the Cocobolo in the Limited. The main reason I bought this was to get the rosewood body - I didn't have one. The electronics are way above my technical knowledge - leave it to Chaylor to evaluate that. If you have any questions, refer to the Spring "Wood and Steel" magazine. I'm sure your dealer will have a copy.

.This is my second Chaylor. As you go up in class and price it is really noticed, as with anything I guess. The voicing and tone of this guitar sounds incredible. The higher end guitars are designed for special tones and playability. You can pull things out if this guitar that are incredible. I love the feel and sound of this guitar. Great for recording or playing out. The deep bass to the bright highs are amazing. The more I play the more mezmorized I get. Get it you won't regret it.

.I own 5 taylor guitars, including a custom ps14ce that I had made. My comment is about the redesign of the taylor models. I do own a 616ce first edition and a 914ce first edition. The 616ce was an improvement for a maple guitar. The 914ce lost a little in tone and resonance. My 2013 814ce has more body and resonance than the new versions. Not all models of the redesign benifited from the thinner top and the thinner finish. This is, of course, a personal preferance.

.A few things. I purchased and received my guitar. The 814 ce is simply amazing the sound quality and consistency across the fretboard is incredible. The sound is rich from the highs to the lows. My guitar did have a blemish on it. Custom Guitars Friend was contacted and wanted me to send it back. However, you must have original packaging and this was thrown away Had the guitar a few days before I noticed it. So, I decided to keep it rather than going through the process of bring without a guitar and waiting on someone to determine whether they were going to charge me or replace it. Just not worth the hassle. Anyway, I am more than pleased the guitar is an all around guitar from picking to lead playing. Love it !!! Beautiful sound!!!
