The J99 passive pickups have a great tone and the active electronics with 3-band EQ really let you tailor the sound to your own needs. There is a trim pot in the control cavity which lets you set the overall volume of the active electronics. This allows you increase the volume even without increasing the individual bass, mid and treble controls. The push/pull volume pot lets you switch between active and passive operation. The bass is equipped with sealed tuners of which one has the back cover missing. Overall this instrument has a quality look and feel. It plays and sounds great.

The BB75 five-string bass is
Carvin's first-ever signature model instrument, and is the result of the
combined efforts between Carvin and top session jazz player and CAB bassist,
Bunny Brunel. First introduced in 1992, the BB75 has proven popular with
5-string bassists that want a contemporary design, superior balance and
unsurpassed playability. In late 2008, the BB Series underwent a design change -
working with Bunny Brunel, the upper horn was reshaped, with the cutaway being
reduced by 1/2", and the horn thickness increased by 1/8". This adds a few
ounces of additional mass near the center of gravity of the instrument, which
improves the balance while maintaining the unique look of the bass. The BB75
active bass is built to the highest possible standards with features found only
on high-end and boutique basses, without the boutique price. The BB75 is more
than just a great looking, great playing bass - it's a work of art that you'll
be proud to play and own for a lifetime.
