What a disappointment. I tried 3 guitar/pickup setups; a USA Stratocaster SSS, SG Classic P90 & Les Paul w/ 57 Classics. Surprisingly, the single coils in the Strat and SG produced muddy, unpleasant distortion more than they produced usable tone. The HB pickups on the Les Paul had the most articulate sound of the 3 axes. But turn the amp above 4 and all you get is the aforementioned muddy distortion. And the bass! You can leave the bass knob on zero, and it's still too much bass. This amp IMHO doesn't really sound much like a Fender amp. Nothing there I liked, so it went back to MF. .This amp is pure tube joy. I mostly play an American Deluxe Stratocaster HSS(Prefer the SCM pickups to recent N versions). This amp has incredible sound and handles pedals well. Not sure if others who had bad reviews just had a badly shipped amp or they changed out something and this made it bad. The one I have is sweet.

.I was looking for a smaller amp than my '65 DRRI as a back up and always prefer Fender Amps for their sound and quality. I checked out one of the new '68 Custom Princetons. Not bad but not what I would want from Fender, maybe its because of the choice of speaker. Don't get me wrong, Celestion makes great speakers, but for some reason to my ears they never sound good in a Fender amp. I'll probably go for the '65 Princeton.
Also note worthy. I've had trouble with the new the Schumacher transformers, I think their made in China. The power Tranny in my almost new '65 DRRI is getting noisy and makes a hum which telegraphs through the amps signal chain. I concluded this after replacing the cheap Illinois Filter Caps with better F&T Caps. Over time it's gotten worse. I assume its a loose coil winding. It's not a problem serious enough to affect playing but in the studio the mic picks up the hum when you're not playing. No problem at gigs. I plan to replace it and the OT with better trannys when I get the time.
FYI there are several good after market US made PT's will fit a DRRI, especially the one made for Vibrolux Reverbs. If you want then you can use 6L6's with no over heating issues, make sure you adjust the bias and you're okay.
So what I'm saying is Schumacher transformers are really not so great. Maybe the originals were in the original amps but not these import trannys.

.Sounds better than the 65 Re-issue and is less expensive. The volume seems to be more gradual until you hit 5, then it acts like an overdrive switch goes on. Past 5, it is all overdrive, even with a strat in the low gain input. With humbukers, you can get mild breakup at 4. There is no input switching, unless you use an A/B box. The footswitch does not change the inputs from high gain to low gain. The low gain input will allow you to drive the power tubes a little more. Overall volume is extremely loud for such a small amp. Cleans are sparkly as expected, reverb is cavernous as expected. The power tubes have a cage around them, very close to the Celestion 10-30, small magnet, low wattage speaker. I'd put my JBL if it fit. Quility and biuld are ok, my grill cloth has waves in it, and the volume pot is very scratchy for a new amp. There are no modern features other than the -6db input. By comparison, this is louder than my 1974 PR and has more bass. Less volume and less base than my 65 RI which had the F# rattle and later breakup. The Blus JR is probably a better buy, because it has a foot-swichable fat button. Fender should have included an input switch on the footswitch. Replacing the vibrato with a gain control and a mid control and using those tubes for extra gain and an effects loop would be awesome, a Super Sonic 12!
Overall, Fender did a good job, using Schumacher transformers, a Celestion speaker, and a wood cabinet. Made in Mexico, not the US.

.Plugged in my vintage Strat and loved the amp from the first chord. Tone is better than I anticipated. I find amp volume settings between 4 and 5 optimal for nice warm tube breakup with my Strat, at a sound level that doesn't annoy the neighbors. Cabinet seems able to handle the bass notes at all volume levels - no buzzes or rattles so far (none of that '65 Princeton RI low F# baffle buzz issue from a few years ago). Also like to add that buying from Custom Guitar's Friend was an all-around great experience.

.I was worried about power, but 12 watts is plenty. Someone once said, if your band is too loud for a Princeton, your band is too loud period. Very true statement, the "68' gets the job done and is awesome for country music. Best price is right here at Custom Guitars Friend too. I looked around plenty.

.1968 was the year I became a teen and believe me things are a lot different today ,but The 68 fender amps and guitars were cool then and are still cool now. I have a line 6 and will still be plugging it in from time to time because of all the different effects . But this Princeton is just what I wanted. Not to big and heavy but not to small either. Don't let this amp fool you it is load and the 10 inch speaker sounds very good. At first when I played it the first time I was thinking to myself this is nothing like my line 6 but then I realized I didn't need all those effects . I just set it on 2 and it was loud. then you realize the great deep tube sound and the only thing you have to do is operate the pup switch and volume - tone controls on your guitar. I look forward to playing with this great tube heaven sounding amplifier . I like the way it takes time to warm up and the ultra cool look it has with the blue-green light and late 60s styling. I love this little guy . Even though I am not the greatest player this thing makes me sound great . I got the open box and I bet if you call up MF you can even get a little more off. I think by this time next year I may want another vintage reissue Fender tube amplifier because it gave me the same feeling I had with my first fender in 68 and would love to experience it again LOL !

When I was a teen this was the sound I remember. I have a line 6 with all the different effects but there are so many choices and don't get me wrong I will still be plugging in that amp from time to time. But being older now I wanted to go back to the stuff I owned and remembered when I was teen. I just got my Princeton amp yesterday and at first I was like this is not what I am used to. But then I started hearing the twangy jazzy full sound and I fell in love her. I didn't want a huge amp and this baby is just the right size and has that super cool look I remember. If you ask me I think it looks way cooler then the blackface one and you save a hundred . I put it on 3 and it is very loud . Don't be worried about the 10 inch speaker because it sounds great. My advice is to get an open box and then call up and tell them you want another 10 % off and I bet MF will give it to you . The one I got was mint and the box had only been opened every thing was like new. A used one in an auction will cost you just as much with the shipping so why take a risk ? .I purchased this for an all around amp. I just practice and learn at home. Compared to my other amps this had a muffled, compressed tone at lower volumes like you would use at home. When cranked up pretty high it sounded much better. My other amps., when I use an ironman attenuator, sound pretty good at lower volumes but not of course as good as cranked. I wanted this princeton to give just a little little distortion at midlevel with my attenuator but it just sounded "thin". Overall the bass response was great and if your are looking for a great sound at higher volumes this would be a good amp. My Tone King Imperial and Mesa Boogie Subway rockets are more to my liking at lower volumes and for use with an attenuator.
I think a Fender Blues Jr. might be more to my liking. I will get one later from Custom Guitar's Friend but I will listen in person to one first.

.This amp is the best all around sounding amp in my collection. Avery clear sound. The speaker does not muddy up the sounds. It is very articlate.
The speaker does need a break in period.When I first got it there was a very obvious bark to it. After abour 20 hours of playing the bark is gone. the sound is impecable. It breaks up nice starting at 4. My strat is a perfecy pairing. Les Pauls give a nice crisp base. Congratulations to Frnder they did wonderful job remaking this.
