Up to now the only Fender bass I've ever owned was a 1987 P-bass from Japan, which I still have to this day. I've always wanted a Fender Jazz bass, and seeing someone playing one in a band I really like recently reminded me of that fact. That combined with this brand new Elite line from Fender finally sold me on getting one, and I couldn't be happier with it. (Natural Finish - Maple Neck)First the case. Both the case itself and the latches on it are rock solid, the interior is lined beautifully with gray fur and it's got a huge accessory compartment for whatever you need to pack with you. It comes with a cable (as do most new instruments), but imagine my surprise when I also found in there a gorgeous leather strap and a set of strap locks! I didn't know it came with them, so that was an extremely awesome addition to the package.
The bass itself is absolute perfection. It's absolutely gorgeous to look at, the finish is flawless, the fret ends were all perfectly smooth, and the inlays are sort of a black abalone looking material, which I also didn't realize from looking at the pictures. I thought they were solid black, so that was another pleasant surprise.
Both the passive and active settings sound just incredible. It's got the ability tone-wise to stand on its own, but it also has a wonderful ability to blend seamlessly into the mix in whatever style of music you're playing.
I read from various people that the Deluxe model of Fender Jazz basses suffered from a dead spot on the neck. This bass doesn't have that issue at all, and the compound neck is incredibly comfortable to play on. Not only comfortable, but deceptively fast.
Finally, the setup was absolutely perfect right out of the box. The string height was optimal with no fret buzz whatsoever. I fell in love with this bass the moment I put my hands on it, and I highly recommend it to anyone. It's more expensive than the Deluxe model, but it's totally worth it.

.This bass has great tones, in active mode deep punchy bottom, bright mids, well balanced. Passive mode is just slightly more mellow. Great for all styles, finger, pick, pluck, pop, tap. Looks incredible. No a big fan of the strings that it came with. Quickly replaced those. Was set up perfectly right out of the box. Getting all the tones I want and more. Plays any style of music.
