The sweet-toned, nylon-stringed ukulele originated in the 19th century in Hawaii. It gained great popularity in the U.S. during the early in 20th century and from there spread internationally. Ibanez is pleased to add the pantheon of this popular instrument with the UEWS5E which features an all-mahogany soprano body with a cutaway and C shape neck that makes it even easier to access all frets for fun solos when you're not just strumming along. Other appointments include a plastic saddle and nut, abalone rosette and chrome open gear tuners.

I had to send the first one back for bad, bridge-buzzing. So I am reviewing instrument number 2 that arrived without defect:I have a Cordoba 15cm concert that I had real bone nut and saddle put on, it's a nice uke; and I have to say this one sounds as nice/maybe nicer, and plays even better. I bought this to use at church as it has the pickup AND onboard tuner, which is a must on a gigging instrument in my opinion. Also, I was going to change the strings out for Aquila supernylgut, but after some research I found that the stock nylblack strings by Aquila ARE Aquila's nylgut that they make exclusively for Ibanez. They stay in tune pretty well for nylon strings and the volume was great and the tone pleasant (sounds nice plugged-in, too). Pleased with this uke.
