My first of 2 mandolins. The mahogany body gives a nice mellow tone, especially appropriate for softer folk, old time, and acoustic tunes. The pick up is OK but tends to subtract from the mellow acoustic sound. Well adjusted amplification helps. I replaced the bridge with one that had more wood to it. This resulted in a stronger tone. The tunning machines are the weak spot. The G tunning machines don't hold tune well. They must be slipping. The others hold better, but also slip. I purchased grover tuners but have not installed them yet. I have grover tuners on my Michael Kelly F style mandolin and they hold very well. At this price I might have done better with another brand.Ibanez M510E A-STYLE Acoustic-Electric Mandolin Brown Sunburst
.Out of the box, the intonation wasn't so good, but after fixing that there really hasn't been anything negative to say about it. Great sound and tone for it's price

.I bought this just to woodshed a bit at work and after fresh strings it has exceeded my expectations. I recorded a bit using the single coil pickup and it sounds fine. For the price it's unbeatable.

.Ok, so I'm a keyboard player who dabbles in guitar. Always looking for a new sound. Always love the tone of a mandolin but not knowing a single thing about playing them, I picked this up hoping to learn. It arrived safe and secure in a double box and was absolutely beautiful upon opening. The tone was crisp and clear and within a few minutes I was able to get a few chords out of it...with the help of YouTube. Yes, it does tend to go out of tune rather quickly but I figured that was to be expected from brand new strings. I'm sure once I play around with the intonation, it will improve. Would a professional player find more cons, yes, I'm sure but for me, this was beyond a great buy. Custom Guitar's Friend strikes again!

.As a keyboardist and frustrated guitarist, always looking for a new "toy" and loved the sound of mandolins. This was a no-brainer. Just beautiful out of the box. Needs a bit of work with the intonation and tuning, but as soon as my guitarist gets through with it I have no reason to believe it won't play and sound great. Plus it's a lot of fun learning a new instrument. Even with my monster size hands, I was able to get a nice tone with it and by playing around with the tuning, a very nice background effect. Well deserving of the hard shelled case I currently have on order from Custom Guitar's Friend. Once again another satisfied customer from the PROS at MF.

The product arrived in 3 boxes: Plenty of protection for shipping. The Mandolin was as beautiful as the images provided on the website. I immediately removed the strings provided and exchanged them with GHS Mandolin Ultra Light (09-13-20-32.) Tuning pegs are a challenge but work. Tuning/Intonation was a breeze but for a beginner could prove challenging. After several days of playing, the intonation settled down. The "pickup" is not high quality but I've used it for several shows. The soundman adjusted the gain structure of the mixer/channel to compensate for the quality of the pickup, but like I said, you get what you pay for. Overall, a beautiful instrument and I'd recommend it for anyone. I bought this one (brand new) for 139 and you can't beat that deal!Ibanez M510E A-STYLE Acoustic-Electric Mandolin Brown Sunburst
.You really can't beat this for the price. It would be a hit out of the park for guitarists if the neck was just a bit wider and the intonation better set out of the box, but it is, after all, a mandolin. The Candy Apple Red description is a bit misleading because it looks much better than in the pics and is actually very nice looking and not gaudy at all. If you want a mandolin to start out with, don't want to spend a small fortune, or one to occasionally supplement your electric live or recording sound, this is an excellent choice.

.The worst part about it is the tunning, but once that gets done it is a great instrument.
