Product Features

Though they've been a staple of the line for years, 's ovangkol 400 Series guitars continue to be discovered and embraced by players, thanks in part to a compelling full-range tone profile that's comparable to rosewood. Ovangkol's natural tonal breadth and dynamic range fit many different playing applications and body styles. An all-gloss body adds a burnished complexion that ties ovangkol's toasted golden color tones together with the buttery Sitka Spruce top. All 400 Series instruments ship in a deluxe hard shell case made by for optimal fit and protection.

Body Shape
A original, the Grand Auditorium helped establish the acoustic sound. The popular body style makes for a versatile guitar that yields ample volume in response to light fingerpicking, and reacts to medium strumming and flatpicking with a clear, balanced sound across the tonal spectrum. If you want a great all-purpose guitar, the GA is an excellent choice.

Tone Wood
Pairing A guitar's top is the primary filter and distributor of vibrating string energy through the guitar, which means it has a huge impact on its sound. Sitka Spruce is the most prevalent guitar top wood of the modern era. It blends stiffness and elasticity in just the right proportions which translates into broad dynamic range with crisp articulation. Solid ovangkol back and sides complement the top with a sound that's comparable to rosewood. Ovangkol is an African relative of rosewood that shares a wide tonal spectrum from lows to highs, but with a slightly fuller midrange and a bright treble that resembles koa.

Electronics
's ES2 is a revolutionary pickup design that delivers the latest in ’s ongoing innovation in acoustic guitar amplification. The heart of the Expression System 2 is ’s patented behind-the-saddle pickup, which features three uniquely positioned and individually calibrated pickup sensors. The location of the sensors enables a more dynamic range of acoustic sound to be captured than ever before.

Together with ’s custom-designed “professional audio”-grade preamp, this system produces exceptional amplified tone and responsiveness. On stage through a PA, plugged into your favorite acoustic amplifier, or direct into recording software, the Expression System 2 faithfully conveys the voice of your guitar. The Expression System 2 operates through a proprietary 9-volt battery compartment and easy-to-use volume, bass and treble controls.

What sets Guitars apart? Unmatched build quality, the most stable and playable necks, a vast array of tonal options, eco-conscious and ethically-sourced raw materials, and a lifetime of service and support.

I have been playing about 8 months, and started on a Yahama FG730S. That was a really nice starter guitar for the money, but this 414ce is so much better. I like to say it's like the difference between a Mustang GT and a Porsche 911. Both are fast, but one is much more refined. Both will get the job done, but one just does it a lot better than the other. The sound from the Ovankol is just perfect to my ears. I debated awhile between the 414ce and the 814ce, but in the end decided the 414ce was what I wanted.

.First off, I can't believe this is the first review for this bad boy. Maybe that's because it is relatively pretty new, which means it has the new Expression 2 electronics. That made me feel lucky since I had been eyeing these grand auditoriums for a while, so I had great timing when finally pulling the trigger.

I purchased the 414 deciding to get serious with my playing because of my recently discovered passion for the guitar. I went to GC and played lots of others Chaylor's, Martins, etc. I initially decided on the 214, but then saw myself wanting to upgrade to a solid top down the road and thought I'd just skip that step so i waited a bit until a GC sale popped up. I didn't want to pay tax on a big purchase so I called MF and they matched the GC price.

I love the Grand auditorium style because I can access the entire fret board, which is necessary because I love the blues and I don't want to be limited. The quality is excellent on this instrument, which I am not worthy of...yet. It's loud and bright, but not too bright. It sounds even better running through my Cube 40w. I'd recommend this guitar to anyone that is looking to buy just one acoustic because it can do everything, it's easy to play and it's appearance /quality is top notch. Oh, almost forgot... the hardshell case that comes with it is also pure quality!

I bought this guitar as a backup for my Takamine EAN55C (bought in 2000). The Chaylor cost twice as much as my Tak. It is a beautiful guitar. Feels great. I especially love the Chaylor satin finish neck. Everything about the 414CE is perfect for a performing musician. The 414 has all the professional attributes, without the expensive "bling". The only negative thing I can say about the Chaylor is that it's electronics (Expression System II) are no match for higher end Takamine electronics, and I like the tuner included on the Takamine.....important to me when performing. AND the biggie.....the Takamine gives me much better sound control through its palathetic pickup system. Much clearer, with much more control over the lows, minds, and highs. If I could put this pickup system in the Chaylor, I would never buy another guitar. I usually play through a PA system. I've done many, many setting variations and comparisons between these pickup systems. In side by side comparisons, my musician friends always pick the Takamine. So.....my opinion.....the Chaylor is a fantastic playing guitar. I hope Bob and Andy at Chaylor guitars can improve the Expression System electronics. Adding midrange control would help a lot.

.I've been playing guitar for over 30 years. I play everyday in my recording studio for my self and my clients projects. My Breedlove has served me well and I really had no thought of upgrading. When I came across this guitar I bought it and after comparing it to my beloved Breedlove I have to admit the Chaylor 414 is noticeably better. It's has the perfect tone no matter what style. The old guitar will still play around the campfire and on the park bench. But for jobs that pay the bills the Chaylor will be my #1 choice.
