I am 65 year old guitar freak. I bought my first guitar in 1964. I love this guitar. This guitar is Made In Mexico. (MIM) I have owned several (MIM) and they are fantastic. Please don't nit pick it. It's an affordable guitar. It is a Fender. It isn't a Squire. The finish is so beautiful. The pick ups sound amazing. I will not change anything on this guitar. I have owned so many guitars over the years, this guitar is so beautiful. I must admit that I have owned Fenders made in America. The difference between American made and Mexico made is the price. You can't buy a better made and sounding guitar than this one.

.I stumbled upon these plus tops in a thread, did some research, then bought one from this site with the hundred smackaroonie labor day weekend discount (fo fiddy shipped). It arrived yesterday, and with a little tweaking to the setup (added 2 springs, tightened claw, lemon-oiled the fretboard, slight relief to truss rod) it is one great guitar!

Aside from the beautiful flame top and alder back (the body is just gorgeous), the front of the headstock has a gloss finish with 70's style logo, and the back of the neck has that nice satin urethene finish with the feel of a usa strat. And the neck itself feels and plays very nicely and the fretwork is well done. I got the tobacco burst with rosewood fretboard. This is probably the nicest looking strat I have owned, and I have had many dozens of strats!

The pickups sound like typical mim pups (not bad, some say hotter than typical mim strat pups, but that could be the maple top influencing the tone), but I will likely swap them out for a set of fender custom shop's that I have.

I have 29 guitars LPs, Prs,Fenders, this by far is my best strat ,the pickups have got to be the fullest sounding Ive came across & Ive tried many on my search, they match my Prs DGT almost but they are a lil more clearer sounding which is a big plus, just an awesome price minus the discount,if your lookin for a fuller sound this is for you,I sent back a 60 player with 69 pups ,sounded very thin compared to this one,I just ordered the nitro handstained strat ,hope its as good as this plus top,now I wanna sell my other strats and get another plus top,I put a new Tusq nut on & a brass trem block from GFS (didnt notice anything) the stock block are newer heavier blocks, just an awesome guitar .

.Terrific value! I owned a beautiful Strat Select (about 2K) and the 'plus top' line from Mexico is close enough to it at 1300 less! I mean the Mexico guitar has REAL good pickups, is beautifully finished with handsome woods, good setup as delivered, and great color scheme with the rosewood fretboard.
I have owned a Jimmy Vaughn, Eric Johnson, Tokai lawsuits from Japan, and the vintage Japan Squiers. This Mexico Strat is NOT second rate and is available in my shop for 520 and no case. Big deal.
What a VALUE and it sounds 'fine' in every position. That means clear, strong, Stratty, and not weak or thin in any position. Get the rear tone control set for the bridge pickup with a simple jumper wire on the switch and maybe consider an all-steel or brass toneblock (at GFS for 20). You are done and have a really nice Strat for modest money. Do not pass this by... go look at them and hear them.

.Solid build. Intonationed perfect from the factory. Excellent fit and the finish is spectacular, the photos do not do it justice. The only adjustment I had to do was on the tremolo bridge, it was all the way back and only allowed raising the tone, not lowering it. The trem arm screwed in well until about half way (half the threads were still showing), then it got really tight. The trem block appears to be made of higher quality materials than earlier models and should not need replacement.

The pickup heights were set right. These are great sounding strat pickups and the bridge pickup is not thin sounding like on other strat models. Excellent quack in the bridge/middle position, the neck/middle position is more subdued. 60 cycle hum is minimal unless you are really close to the amp or have a lot of dimmers/flourescent lights/TV's/refigeration units close by.

It is a polyurethane finish which I actually prefer over nitro finishes because it looks fabulous and will last a lifetime. The flamed maple top is actually a thin veneer but looks really good, especially in the light.

The tuners are high quality and hold tune well. The nut is cut properly.
Fret ends are dressed properly, no sharp ends.

It feels good, solid like a quality instrument should. It is MIM, but it feels, sounds and plays as well as any USA model.

This is a great Strat at a great price that is gig worthy almost right out of the box.

.The tobacco sunburst flame maple top is stunningly beautiful! And the rosewood fretboard has a wonderful feel to it. The action that this guitar came from the factory with was much higher than I like. As I adjusted the string saddles down I didn't experience any buzzing frets, but several of the strings were deadened in certain parts of the neck. Inspection of the neck revealed that there was more curvature in the neck than I am used to seeing in a new guitar. Minor adjustment of the truss rod cleaned this right up, and then adjustment of the string saddles brought the action down to where I wanted it. It plays very nicely now, and has that classic Strat tone!

.Right out of the box this guitar screams beautiful, awesome finish, after a quick tuning the guitar plays very well. The pickups sound great and the sound, tone and playability are everything you would expect from a Fender.. i am tempted to buy 1 of every color...this Strat rocks !!!
