I'd wanted a tenor guitar for awhile but didn't want to spend the money for one until I came across the Ibanez PFT2-NT. For almost half the price of other tenors, I bought this one without much knowledge of this particular model. I was not disappointed. It came with Daddario J-66 tenor strings (tuning low to high, CGDA typical tenor tuning in fifths) but I knew I wanted to tune it lower to GDAE (octave mandolin tuning) with Daddario EJ-80 octave mandolin strings (bonus, you get two sets of tenor strings). I was concerned about how the guitars intonation would be with thicker strings but to my surprise its intonation is close to perfect. It has a beautiful sound that low thanks to the body size which is shaped like a dreadnought but smaller. In this tuning it's great for chords and melody and if I capo at the fifth fret I'm back to CGDA tenor tuning. This guitar would be great for guitar players who want to get into fifth tuned instruments and mandolin players who are venturing into guitars. Beautiful guitar, beautiful sound, exactly what I was looking for. My compliments to Ibanez for a inexpensive, amazing tenor guitar.

.I don't play tenor guitar and don't plan on learning it, but I do play guitar and ukulele and I am crazy about this Ibanez PFT2-NT! The neck may seem a bit narrow for guitarists, but if you play uke, mandolin or tenor banjo/guitar you will feel right at home. The mini dreadnought body has a nice full sound and is incredibly comfortable to hold.

I tune mine DGBE and with capo on the fifth it becomes GCEA making it an awesome steel string acoustic uke! I have experimented with standard tuning .034 - .026 - .017 - .013, re-entrant .012 - .024 - .016 - .012 and Nashville .012 - .011 - .014 - .013. and enjoy them all! As Geoff mentioned in his review even using various gauge strings the intonation is near perfect.

Thank you Ibanez!

.The instrument sounded good and felt good to play. It is possible I just got one that missed quality control. It was an open box item and it's possible that the intonation and neck set was the reason. While I chose not to replace it with the same thing due to shipping costs I think it likely that there are some good ones available.

.Not a bad tenor yet neck is way to small makes it hard to play

.Don't waste your time with this tenor guitar. Save the extra money and get a Blueridge T-40. I was expecting a better build from an Ibanez branded guitar. The frets were so sharp I thought I was going to cut my hand while playing. The tuners were so flimsy that just tuning the guitar they would wiggle. I know this is a cheap guitar but still, with an Ibanez name I expect better. As stated earlier the Blueridge is a much better guitar. Get that if you want an inexpensive tenor.
