I purchased this bass 6 months ago as a 2nd to my fretted 6 string that I gig out with regularly. It has great sound with a nice attack for fretless (often fretless basses have a more "muted" sound-this can definitely cross over to aggressive rock easily with the active EMG pickups). The bass was set up nice out of the box. As to using roundwounds vs. flatwounds, I've always been a strict roundwound player, and I used D'addario Pro Steels on this bass (as I do my fretted bass) with great results. You definitely get some "snake trails," but I have played this bass for at least 200 hours over the past 6 months, and I don't have anything beyond slight cosmetic marks (very faint, only seen in the right light) on the fretboard. .OK, Im going to get right to the point. If you're looking for a FRETLESS bass then literaly you have it. BUT! This bass doesnt give you that "fretless growl" that you may expect if you're an experienced fretless jazz player. Now, the first few weeks the bass was tight and nice, but after that it really started loosening up and I actually had to raise the string heights to keep them from buzzing on the fretboard and also dead spots started appearing around the 1st octave point. IMO, Schecter took a regular 5 string bass, and removed the frets, and called it a fretless bass. But we all know that that's not the secret to the awesome "fretless" sound. And for this price I think one should easily expect it.
Now this review may be harsh, but I had my expectations, and they didnt come about. If you're just looking for something different and unique, then go for it, but if you want supurb quality fretless growl, then you may want to proceed to warwick or perhaps even Tony Franklin's fender. IDK, honestly these days guitar manufacturers are just de-fretting basses and calling them legit fretless, but that doesnt cut it for me..

.The First Thing You notice about this bass, is its stunning looks and odd body shape. It has the look of a Boutique bass, for a fraction of the price.It is Equipped with EMG pickups, the lower models I believe.The Neck was fairly straight and comfortable, string spacing was a bit tight for me personally.Now as for a fretless bass...it doesn't have that JACO TONE that most Players would want in a fretless. I suppose that is due to the Humbuckers rather than Single Coil's. It was still a decent sounding and easily playable bass, and it looks amazing.Its a shame they don't equip them with Flatwounds.With some adjustments, this bass could ROAR.Cheers.

.This bass is a good bass. The lows are low and the highs are high. But (Do not use the strings thay give you,thay will tare up your neck.) Use flat wound strings only.

.I played this bass at the Guitar Center in New Orleans, and I must say that it was simply incredible. It was the first fretless I've ever played, and I can imagine that it's also probably one of the best I ever will.First off, it sounds incredible. Even hooked up to just a 15 watt amp, it had awesome tone. I enjoyed playing it a lot, and it's definately very fun. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested, as it is an overall great instrument.

.I play with a church music team. Have got to play guitars and basses since the late 70's/early 80's. This fretless bass is by far the best bass I have played. I cut my teeth on a stand up bass and so this feels familiar. Excellent intonations, you can dial in the settings and get what you wish. Very easy to play as the action is close enough. Mine came with Ernie Ball flat wound strings and I have been pleasantly surprised by the sound and playability. Was ready to go right out of the box (tuning required, but what instrument doesn't?). Solidly built bass with the neck through design, which means no unnecessary neck adjustments! (I need a guitar like this now . .). I get compliments on the sound and looks almost every time I pull it out! One comment was that it was a nice piece of fine furniture! Not sure about that, but the looks of the Honey Satin draws great comments often, and I like it as well as it is not so shiny. Since it is a well built bass, it is sort of heavy. I am a relatively big fellow so that is of no concern, but it might be for others. If you are interested in a fretless bass, and you are looking at this, by all means give it a go! It comes as a 4 and 6 string version as well. As others have said, I won't go back to frets again, this plays so well. If you are unfamiliar with fretless, this has the markings, just not the frets, you will find your way around the neck just fine (one just needs to practice for a bit, since there are no frets, you have to hit the note on target or it is sharp or flat, but that makes you a better musician). Go ahead and explore, after a time I bet you don't go back to frets either! I would whole heartedly recommend this bass to anyone interested.
