The bass is well made and has a very punchy deep bass sound when not plugged in. Martin should have left it at that. Plugged in is horrible. It is boomy and really shows the dead frets on the bass.I sold my Ovation acoustic electric to buy this one. Bad move. The ovation was a much better instrument.
On the good side, unplugged it is great and will hold its own playing with guitars like the D-28etc. Martin needs to re-think this one.
One more note, it took two tries before I got one that worked well, and I'm going in to get the electronics fixed again this weekend.

.It's a Martin so you expect a certain level of quality this instrument doesn't disappoint it just has a feel to it that lets you know where the money went. I love the neck it's fast and the ebony fretboard gives it a nice dark tone.I had been looking for a long time for the right ABG and after trying many popular cheaper brands I decided I wanted the best I wanted something that was going to last. I loved the plugged in tone the preamp is very adjustable I run mine through a BBE Acoustimax preamp/DI and the tone is to die for!! also Martins have a lifetime warranty this is the last ABG you will ever buy.

.The bass I am reviewing is a 1999 BM Road Series Acoustic Martin Bass. I bought it new in The Florida panhandle (higher humidity). I put an active EMG bridge transducer in. Since It has a J body, I have to use a feedback buster while performing on stage and near a monitor. The quality of this bass in unsurpassed. The 34 inch scale gives it a very deep and rich sound. The solid spruce sound board tops it off nicely. It is very well constructed and it has held up flawlessly since I bought it 18 years ago.
