I bought this amp to merge the gap between the styles I play. This thing can do Tool, Chevelle, and Metallica with ease, but it can also do Led Zeppelin, The Doors, and Black Sabbath. Extremely versatile for a lunchbox, 3-knob amp!Only thing I would recommend is to NOT pair it with Celestion Vintage 30s. When I first purchased the Dark Terror I had it running through a 4x12 with Vintage 30s and G12H30s in an X pattern. The mids in this combo were much too sharp and the low end much too muddy. I almost returned the amp; however, I got a great deal on two WGS Retro 30s and decided to give them a try. I put them on top and the G12H30s on bottom and the difference was really unbelievable. The sound is wonderfully huge now while remaining very articulate. The ice pick mids are completely tamed and every note rings through the mix with ease. I also have more of a round bottom end that thumps you in the chest. Great stuff!
Don't let the size fool you. This thing is mega loud. I find that in my home I have to run it on 7 watts with the volume no further than 9 o'clock and the gain at 2 o'clock. Anything beyond and shingles start flying.
Pedals work great with this amp! Especially the MXR Micro Amp and Micro Flanger, the Ernie Ball VP Jr and the Boss DD3! The Micro Amp really is amazing and a must own in my opinion!
Lastly, if you're on the fence about either getting this or the Tiny Terror (like I was) I would say it really depends on a few things. If you're a beginner, or if you're only into classic/indie rock, then I'd say the Tiny Terror 1x12 Combo is the amp for you. However, if you've been around the block a few times and you're into hard rock and/or metal then I'd get this. I tested out both amps over about a week and found that the Dark Terror is louder and has more of a warm bottom end than the Tiny Terror. Setting both amps up for clean made this extremely apparent. But honestly, both are great amps, and after getting the right speaker paired up, I'm VERY happy with my Dark Terror! Hope this helps!
Only three knobs, which could be a good thing depending on your needs. Personally, I find that too many amps over-complicate things and muddy down their tone by including enough knobs to fill a grocery bag. The volume and gain knobs work very well together and produce everything from a warm clean to a full out monster! The shape knob is great for almost anything. A turn to the left increases the mids, and a turn to the right scoops them. I find 11 o'clock to 1 o'clock are my sweet spots. The ability to cut the output wattage in half (from 15 to 7) is a great feature that I wish all amps had. Also, the inclusion of an FX Loop is certainly a plus over its little brother, the Tiny Terror.
Built like a tank. You could probably install a missile launcher on top and it'd do just fine.
A killer deal! This amp is certainly gig-worthy and sounds meatier than any other amp I've owned -- even a Soldano.

.1st tube amp ever for me. I've been a lifelong devotee of high-gain, solid-state amplifiers. Needed something different to round out the amp collection, and this was a killer choice. Always thought it'd be cool to have an amp with three knobs. The Dark Terror has incredible response with each knob, changing sound noticeably between ticks. Tone is easy to dial in with the Shape knob, and if you want to be picky, an EQ (like the BOSS EQ-7 or any of the MXR EQ pedals) responds well to the DT. Gain is NOT hard to find on this little beast, and is suited for all things heavy. Cleans up pretty decent when volume rolls back & still gets gritty if you hit the strings hard. Pedals sound great out in front of the amp, wasn't crazy about the FX loop. The gig bag is an awesome touch as well. The Dark Terror was a welcome addition to the family and won't be the last Orange I get my hands on, either!

.I bought this to use as a recording rig. Running it through 2 1x10 cabs with WSG speakers. Sound is punchy, pretty tight and tone balances on an edge between vintage and modern...with a turn of the shape knob to take you in either direction. For me...this makes a fantastic recording rig. My Rivera takes so long to dail in for recording...then to dial back in for live it became a bit impractical for me to do all that. This was eactly what I needed. Sounds killer....dials in, in seconds....takes pedals very well ....100% Orange tube tone with plenty of gain. Seems built well. Its been inspiring for me to play through...because its so easy to tap into different tones.
This thing doesnt have a boat load of features....but that's kind of what I love about it. The FX loop is awesome...takes pedals well. One channel, a volume knob, a Shape knob and a gain knob and a power attenuation switch. All of the included features work extremely well...I gotta say I love the shape knob. It goes from classic rock to death metal with a turn. If I could add features (other than a dedicated clean channel) it would probably be some EQ. Although....the shape knob is awesome....makes dialing in tones so easy.
So far so good. Contruction appears top knotch to me....for an import item. I had a little concern after finding out this was not a Brit made Orange....but quality appears on par with everything else of theirs I tried out.
It seemed like a big leap of faith for me to spend that much on a 15 watt tube head....made in China...with only 3 knobs. But after spending a few weeks with this thing its the best $$$ Ive spent in a long time. I just cant stop playing it. There are so many different tones on tap with the simple twist of a knob. The Dark Terror lives up to every bit of the hype in my opinion. And its LOUD! Im no stranger to boutique tube amps either...my live rig is a Rivera KR7....but the DT offers a little different flavor of tone Ive only heard in Orange amps....and I love it. If you ask me...worth every cent.

.I bought this amp right before the Jim Root Terror #4 came out. What I like about this amp, is that it can sound amazing when cranked. I would have liked to test out the JR #4 at the same time. What I don't like, is that it only has 1 knob that affects the tone so much, even if you barely move it. The #4 amp has a 3 band EQ, I believe. This amp will have more gain on tap though.
It can drive a 4x12 cab rated at 400 watts. I had it run through a Diezel cab with G12K100's and it was the most amazing tone I've ever heard. That being said, it was NOT loud enough to go over the drummer and bassist, so if you need love this amp, but need to use it for a band, you will need to mic it up to a P.A. or else you should probably get the 50 watt Thunderverb, but then you run into the problem of being too loud.
At 7 watts, this amp is still a bit loud for an apartment. If you live in a house and your GF or parents are ok with a cranked tube amp, then you'll be ok.
I also see this amp paired with a 1x12 or 2x12 cab with v30's. To me, those speakers are too muddy sounding. The amp sounds a little boxed in as well, meaning, it sounds like someone has a cardboard box surrounding the amp. The G12K100's allowed for more mids to come through.
At home, I use this with a Celestion Alnico Blue speaker, which is one of the top rated speakers you can get. It's also a 15 watt speaker, which allows me to get better breakup at lower volumes with this amp.
I would love to see this amp, or another thunderverb amp or even rockerverb, rated at 25-30 watts and maybe have 2 channels.
Checkout the Jim Root terror #4 before buying this amp. This amp is great if you know you are going to play metal and you prefer that scoop'd metal tone.

.This is a great amp for its size. Its tone is best suited to hard rock / metal. The controls provide a wide range of adjustment, with very good response to the tone control.
The 7 and 15 watt settings are quite useful in using this as a practice amp or for recording, and you can get a variety of sound pairing this with different speakers given the two ranges.
I got mine used for less than half the street price, and am quite happy with it. This and a 2x12 is a very portable rig.
However, as a hard rock amp, it is not going to compete with the rest of the mix at 15 watts. It will drive a half-stack, but not enough for a large band, and is better when paired with a 2x12 and mic'd.
If mine were stolen and I could get another one used, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I'd be less inclined to recommend one at the typical new/street prices unless it is a good fit for your needs, i.e. practice amp and light/portable gig amp to pair with a 2x12.
I'm still giving it 5 stars, because it is excellent for its intended functions.
I have an old Mesa 2x12 with Celestion G12H, and was surprised at how well this amp pairs with those speakers.

.i run it though an Orange 2x12 PPC open back. It sounds amazing. I suggest that you get a 16 ohm cab with it because through any 8 ohm cab it does not sound near as good. And for some reason it is much louder though a 16 ohm. It's an orange thing I suppose. Best amp head i couldve possibly gotten for the money.
It has everything you would ever need except reverb. The shape nob really is just as good as an 3 nob configuration. The effects loop works amazing definately a great feature. What I love most about it is the amount of gain it has. No matter what genre you play it will sound amazing!!

. I own a number of amps, but never had (until now) a "darker" sounding tube amp. This little Orange DT definitely delivers. I've tried it out using three different Celestion equipped cabinets: An Egnater 112X Elite 80, 16 ohm closed back; a Mesa Boogie Black Shadow 90W, 8 ohm 12" open back; and an Egnater G12H Vintage 30 for the Teaker 15 Head, 16 ohm. The G12H Vintage 30 sounds muddy at mid volumes, the Mesa decent, and the Egnater 112X sounds the best at all volumes and gain settings.
I run a Boss ME-70 unit through the effects loop for reverb, delay, chorus, etc. and it sounds great. At home I like it at the 7 Watt setting which still booms. It's certainly not for blues stuff, but it really shines when playing Alice In Chains type music. Yes, it also cleans up nicely by using the guitar volume, but come on, the real fun is in letting it go!
Sure a second channel would be nice, but you don't get this Orange DT to be an all purpose amp.
Overall-- an excellent amp.

.If you need heavy without a ton of processing...this is it! I run a Decimator through the efx loop and it IS dead silent till you drill the strings. All my effects sound awsome... Great gain ,great amp, great deal!!!

.This amp has me blown away. I've owned bottom of the line solid state amps, used top of the line guitar amp modeling softwares with impulses for recordings, and have previously owned a Peavey 6505+ with 4x12. This amp running through a Blackstar HTV 112 satisfies what I desired for 8 string guitar tone variety that the 6505+ simply didn't offer.
Don't get me wrong, I've always loved the 5150 tone, but I'm able to dial in tones ranging from rock to extreme metal, deep heavy low-ends, and scooped dimebag style tones from this little amp.
