I use this pedal with my bass rig actually. I have the EHX Enigma, which is also a cool pedal, but I was feeling like sometimes it would lose a little low-end when I had it engaged (depending on the settings). I now run this into the Enigma and have been getting fantastic results. A lot of the other octave pedals I was looking at were pricier. I really love the tone of this one both on its own and in conjunction with my other pedal. We play some electrock stuff and this thing turns into a real nice sub-pusher when we get into that kind of a groove. The tracking on it is not perfect (I think it's intended to be used with guitar, so that's probably the #1 reason there). I find that most of the scale of my bass sounds nice and thick and fat through it, but getting down to my low Ab and all the way down to E, it can confuse it a little... it's only meant as a monophonic tracker, so the overtones in the lower notes throw it through a loop. This isn't an issue for me, as it just does an awesome job making the rest of my sound amazingly thick. Anyone looking for multi-tracking on their octave pedal would be better suited towards the POG or Micro POG or one of the many other polyphonic octave trackers. For me tho, this is exactly what I was looking for.

.I use this pedal for bass, and it really does the job, if you are looking for adding a little groove to your basslines. The only thing is that volume decreases a little bit when this pedal is engaged, but no big deal at all. This unit is NOT intended for playing chords on your guitar or bass; it's for playing riffs on one string at a time.Very cool pedal.
Electro-Harmonix XO Octave Multiplexer Guitar Effects Pedal
.I have only played an older model of the Octave Multiplexer, yet it was still one of the best pedals I have ever played! When given an octave up, you get a cool somewhat distorted sound to it, along with the sub-octave adding to the psychedelia/heaviness! The one and ONLY problem is that when played on bass with the sub-octave, the E-string is fairly muddy (but what octave pedal isn't?). Great pedal, great buy.

.If you are looking to play only one string, or one note, at a time, then this may have some use for you. If you want to play two or more strings, or a full chord, this pedal gets extremely muddy and warbly. It cannot handle it. It was a disappointment for me, and I rarely use it now.

.This pedal is great for sub octave effects but doesn't have any high octave effects. I use it to give harder riffs more of a bite and it does the trick. It also has this cool effect if you turn the "blend" knob on all the way that sounds like the DOD gonkulator pedal. I was very pleased with it and I would recommend it to any guitar player interested in octave effects.

.Awesome bass sounding octave effects. You don't use this pedal to play chords, however. It's strictly for interesting guitar leads and bass riffs. You can also use it as voice modulator, but I have not tried it with a mic.

.I love this pedal! its just what Ive been looking for, its nothing to much, one octave below, but really changes your sound. It really phatens up your distortion! I recomend this pedal.
Electro-Harmonix XO Octave Multiplexer Guitar Effects Pedal
.My problem, as I say above, is I just bought it and can't get it to work. Maybe it's a question of input level.

.So This pedal is built like a tank. Like all EH's. Now The sound of this .. it seems like you cant really crank the blend at least for me. Seems like Higher Frequency breaks up the sound a bit .. When Using this in your rig .. this has to go through your guitar and before a Suppressor its got a lot of hiss to it. I bought this because I love the CKY distortion sound and I can achieve just that .. but for those who really don't have a goal with this pedal .. may not be the best buy for you .. Because if you don't know what your looking for with this Effect .. its kind of a mess and you can actually do Physical damage to your speakers
Electro-Harmonix XO Octave Multiplexer Guitar Effects Pedal
.I bought this along with a cheap fuzz pedal and a delay pedal hoping to get into a more psychedelic sound. I was hoping to be able to distort my signal first and then run it into the pedal in order to get a distorted high tone and a clean low, but it's tracking simply cannot handle it, perhaps because it is an analog device. I had originally used a Behringer which I found to be so useless as to not even be able to use it clean, and this is certainly and improvement over that, but I still felt like it fell a bit short of it's intended effect, as I find it also sometimes having trouble tracking my clean signal. I decided ultimately to keep the pedal but it is definitely a bit of a niche effect that might not see much use on your pedal board unless you want to play nothing but really fat riffs all day long, which honestly is pretty fun, but as a songwriter, I need more versatility.
