I bought this to use with my Kemper Profiling Amp and a Voodoo Amps 2x12 cabinet. I'm upgrading all of my equipment and needed a power amp. I was trying to avoid using a rack so i can have quick access to local shows. Get in, get out. I thought this would get the job done. I have read other reviews on this and they said it is way loud enough to compete with anything and great headroom.

The bottom line...The 44 magnum is not worth the 150 you pay for it. It starts to break up around 9 oclock. So at any reasonable volume, say bye to your clean tones. For metal or heavy gain stuff, maybe its for you. The more breakup could be beneficial to you. But for me it was simply not loud enough, sounded EXTREMELY dull, even with the treble switch engaged, and was not able to access a clean tone worth my time. AT BEST, you could you use this in DIRE emergencies when your GOOD power amp fails you, and you just whip it out of your bag and connect it. That, i could see a use in... but it wont sound anywhere close. I immediately sent it back. MUSICIANS FRIEND: you're customer service is unmatched. Thank you. ELECTRO HARMONIX: This is the 3rd pedal that I've bought from you, and i will not be buying anymore. Thank you.

I've come to realize, if you're running a profiler/modeler or whatever and play gigs, don't waste your time getting a solid state power amp under 200 watts. Higher wattage is always best for better headroom and unaltered cleans. Just turn down if you're too loud.

First off, this is a powerful little devise. I play in a cover band that gigs in medium sized clubs and large wineries and this thing can handle all. I played last weekend at a good sized club and had the 44 mag on 1 going thru a Marshall 4x12 cab @ 16 ohms and people were saying it was a bit loud. Now here's the dilemma: you really have to turn it up to get tube saturation tone, so what I did was spent a little more and got the EHX LPB-1 Linear Power Boost. You use this just like the gain on a Marshall in front of the 44 Mag. Turn the volume on the LPB-1 to 3 o'clock position and you will have the PERFECT saturation that is responsive to pick attack - compare it to a Marshall JCM 800. Now, put a tube screamer (or something more radical for Metal) in front of the LPB-1 and there is your lead boost. Forget spending $$$ on a boutique amp. Do the above and I promise you you will have THE tone and control - you will be blown away at how good it sounds!

.I use a Boss GT-8 in my cover band. It is great for getting all the tones and effects of all the various artists. When this little gem came out, I was overjoyed! Now instead of going direct into the PA or running my FX processor into my amp, I now can simply run through this into a 4 x 12 cabinet. I go from the guitar into the GT-8, then to a direct box which goes xlr into the PA and quarter inch into this 44 magnum, then out to the cabinet. I sometimes mic the cabinet if I don't wanna use the direct box, just depends on the stage I'm on. Anyway, this little amp drives my cabinet very well. It has plenty of clean power to do what I need. I did hook it up without any preamp and it sounded pretty good. It breaks up some when you crank it and has a nice warmth to it considering it is not tube driven. Will it get loud? You bet! It wont keep up with you non-dynamic super loud drummers or you 1000 watt bass players who want to blow the windows out. It is plenty loud for any clubs or auditoriums. In my experience, if you play louder than this amp, you'll get kicked out of most venues! I run it about a third of the way up at practice and can hear it fine. It is small and less expensive than a rack power amp and sounds really good. I cant wait to run my POD into it. The Boss GT sounds killer with it into a 4 x 12.

.This morning I tried out the EH 44 magnum power amp. This little thing is awsome! I played my Zoom G9.2tt into it,driving an old cab from the 60s with a single Jensen 12. Really LOUD but also really musical. The bright switch gives clean tones a nice chime, the normal setting is great for gutsy lead. Still can't believe how loud it is. The power supply is about the same size as the little amp chassis, but other than that, its killer! Can't wait to check out the 22 watt one!

.I typically lug around an extremely heavy Mesa/Boogie combo, but it is a major pain...and lets be honest, how often do you need 100W of power? Likely...never. I find that even at big venues, all you need is decent stage volume and the sound guy will take care of the rest. Bottom line... the 44 Magnum holds its own.

I used this little amp with a few different distortion/overdrive pedals with amazing results. [Mesa Boogie V-Twin, Boss Dual Overdrive, Tech 21 California]

At the first non-practice I used it, I plugged it into a borrowed 4x12 cabinet and started wailing. After a few minutes the sound guy started looking around then slowly walked over and said, "what amp are you playing out of???" I pointed to a small pedal on the ground, to which he replied, "seriously? amazing"

That sort of response is what I get all the time.

I won't say that this is the most amazing sound you'll ever hear.

What I'm saying is that for the price/SIZE/use it is great at what it does.

It is a great small amplifier for use with other pedals and can put out a great sound. Period.

.This tiny little amp is SO Loud! I could'nt get it past 9'0 clock without having to disturb my housemates. I ran this with a Randal RD112 speaker cab, a Boss EQ Replica and a Boss MT-2 then BAM! I just could not believe how much sound i was getting from this freakin' little thing and I barely even touched the volume knob!. Recommended for bedroom/ garage players and gigging musicians looking for a portable solution to their rig. Can't wait to run an AMT SS-20 preamp and a Maxon OD 808 with this true "tiny terror".

.This little thing is freaking loud! I use it with the Digitech gsp 1101 and it sounds killer and loud. The bright switch is handy for playing in low volumes so if you want to bring back some of the highs.
not much to it.

.Love you EHX. I am running the 12" speaker (35w Jensen) in my tube amp combo 15' across the room (with a 25' speaker cable) and it sounds great. I can control all my tones and volume on a end table in front my couch in the back room. I use the Magnum with one of my Tech 21 Character Series or AMT SS-20 preamp (plus other pedals). An injury keeps me from being able to go back and forth to tweak an amp. Now I can use an amp again (it's not 3 feet from my head). With the Magnum pushing a quality speaker it makes one hell of an amp. It is as worthy of recording as my preamps with a cab sim direct and my tube amp miked.

.I think this is a nice compact solution to those who are tired of lugging 50 pieces of gear to every show.
Good and loud. Easily loud enough for club gigs. If you have an effects processor and you just need something to drive speakers, this is a nice portable solution.

.My current setup is a tech 21 TRI AC to a reverb pedal to the 44 Magnum and into a Rocktron 112 cabinet. I cant believe that this little box is so powerful and loud. I can only turn it up a quarter for live shows. The effect box feels very light and empty. It can easilly blow away many high end guitar amps by feel and loudness. Highly recomended.
