Ok so I had heard good thigs about this pedal, and so I went in expecting it to sound good. I plugged it into a Fender rumble 100 (the same amp I had) and I just could not get a good sound out of it. My guitarist and I agreed that it just didn't cut it. I have tried many guitar pedals and many of them sounded as good or better than this one that is supposedly designed for bass. If you like the sound, then fine use it, but to me it just sounded bad. So, while this may seem obvious PLAY BEFORE YOU BUY IT. No amount of reviews and videos can compare to you actually plugging this in and trying it out.Electro-Harmonix XO Bass Big Muff PI Distortion Effects Pedal
.The problem with this pedal is that it is unreliable. Every time I activate it, it could work perfectly or it could just totally freak out. Often times the volume is different than where I set it or there is a very loud buzz that wasn't there before. I never know what I'll get when I turn it on. When it works it sounds great. It is too unreliable to gig with.

.if you're looking for a great bass distortion, fuzz, or even a low-gain boost, this pedal is for you!!! i've used for everything from very contemporary worship services to indie rock/grunge, you name it!!! this pedal does it all!!!!! if you have any doubts, BUY ONE NOW. you won't regret it!!!
so yes while this pedal is very simply laid out, and it appears there's not much to it, its incredibly versatile. between the Tone and Sustain knobs, there's vast amounts of control over the over tone. and all the while, i lose no tone or sustain from my amp (Hartke LH1000 head with a 4X10 cab and 1X15 cab) whatsoever! and on top of all that, the three way mini-switch for bass boost is amazing!!! you can truly sculpt and customize your tone with this pedal.
talk about well built, this thing is rugged!! not to mention the battery life is amazing!! the only complaint i have is that the screws on the bottom come all the way out of the chassis, and therefore could be easy to lose, but there are ways to prevent that.
i was blown away that for something so valuable to my tone and playing in general, that its so affordable! this thing has completely changed my style and opened up so many doors of musical exploration, i don't know if i can put a price on it! i will definitely cherish this pedal for years to come!

.more features than other fuzzboxes I've had. Good value
Good range of fuzz all the way from a slight warm fuzziness to completely indiscernable. The bass boost is useful as long as you don't mind your walls falling down. No noticable loss of tone or sustain

.This is a durable pedal, made in the USA, with great effects to play with.
You can get anything from a light crunch, to a treble distortion explosion!
The one down side I can think of is this guy can eat batteries. It could be how often I use it, but I went through 3 9Volts in a month.
So look into AC adapters.
It's noteworthy that you can mix your dry input with effects output, so you can keep the fidelity of your bass tones, but still add that extra crunch.
All things considered, I love this pedal.

.This is the second bass distortion pedal I've owned. The first was the ODB-3. I like the Bass Muff pedal because of the little switch that goes from dry to bass boost. The dry setting is like the ODB-3, it mixes the distorted signal w/ a clean one to keep from losing the low-end. The bass boost is a distorted signal only w/a bass boost. I like the dry setting the most. I just wish it had another knob to adjust the ratio of the wet and dry signal like the ODB-3 has. But the sound it makes is far superior to the ODB-3. Great pedal!

.Overall? I'd be NOWHERE without this baby! This pedal is the key to my bass tone. Any metal fans out there looking to add some beef to their town, This is for You, with out a doubt. Electro-Harmonix, I salute You!
This thing is built like a tank! I'm not the most graceful of musicians, this pedal has taken a spill once or twice. Not a thing wrong with it. This pedal is durable and can take a beating. As far as sound quality goes; I couldn't be more in love. The sound You get out of a pedal like this, it's amazing! My main influence to playing bass. His tone is large and loud. This pedal will cover that job completely. Perfect for anything from Kill 'em All and Ride the Lightning. Most definitely the best pedal I've ever owned.
For Your money, You're not going to find a better fuzz pedal than this. The Bass Big Muff kicks the daylight out of any other fuzz for bass. Big Muff is the king! You get what You pay for, No doubt about that. If You're considering this pedal, don't hesitate! You'll fall head over heels for it.

.I bought this unit after testing it out at the music venue I work in, and fell in love. You get three settings: Bass Boost, Normal, and Dry.My only hitch with the pedal is the toggle switch for the settings as opposed to a footswitch selector. On normal this pedal is the same as the final run of the black russian Big Muffs. Trust me, I have both pedals on my board now, the only difference I have noticed is the "Bass Muff" has abit more gain. Bass boost is the same tone, just beefed up to fully round out the sound, which is how I run it. Dry is the most useful setting, allowing you dial in the amount of fuzz over your clean tone to really make it sing.I run bass boost out of both dry and effect out to my amps dual inputs to mix my signal, and I love. Side by side with the soviet muff this thing will skin you alive. On it's own it will put any rhythm guitarist to shame with it's wall of sound. I have owned three big muffs now, two russians and now the bass muff. For under a hundred dollars you should own this pedal or at least give it a fair shot.

.I've been playing with a Russian Big M*ff for about 20 years and it finally gave out on me. Not the pedal itself, but the LED indicator which tells me if it's on or not so I figured it was time for an upgrade. Man, am I glad I did. Big M*ff pedals are the best distortion/fuzz pedals out there for bass as far as I'm concerned, but I am so blown away by how this pedal handles my 5-string. On my old M*ff, the low B string sounded muddy. It just couldn't handle anything lower than the E string. On this one, you can even get some punch and clarity on that low B. Not only that, it works great as a pedal for guitar. ESPECIALLY if, like me, you play a lot of stuff in C-Standard. You can get some nice fuzzy Fu Manch-type tones. If you switch on the Bass Boost and crank the Tone and Sustain nobs to 11, you can even get that bass-heavy crunch Kyuss was renowned for. If you want a distortion pedal than can handle your five string, if you want a great distortion or fuzz pedal, this little green hulk can handle all of that and then some. NOTE: I had to edit the word M*ff in this review because the word is flagged by MF's profanity filter. Go figure.

.As someone who plays alot of psych rock, stoner rock and doom metal, I must say this pedal is the perfect tone for this type of music. Its abrasive and fuzzy (but a nice clean fuzz.) It also works pretty well on guitar, but this is a pedal made for bass, and its purpose as a bass pedal is what it best serves as.
