I waited 2 years to decide on a large-bore F model, and glad I chose the 882OR with gold bell. I have played a few Bach, Holton, and King models over the years (some great, others OK), and never had the chance to try the top Getzen, Shilke, Shires, etc. models, but most were more expensive anyway. I love being able to crank up the volume without splattering (Mahler 3), and with a variety of mouthpieces I can get exactly the bright, robust, or dark sounds that I like. (Also sounds great with my Shilke 50 mp.)Fit and finish are as usual first rate, as I've found with most everything made by . F-trigger is smooth, quiet and easy-blowing. Wide slide is effortless and quick.
Case is also nice; very slim and compact, with just enough room for 2-4 mouthpieces, lube, spray bottle and rag. I am a middle-aged amateur/aspiring wanna-be semi-pro player, and I expect this will last me my lifetime for quartet/octet, church, and symphony gigs (also have a Yam 891 for jazz/band).
Overall premium quality for a moderate price.
Note: I initially received a damaged model from MF - I suspect it may have been a demo model or was slightly dented during packaging or transport - but MF paid for return shipping and sent me a new one within two weeks. Excellent customer service.
