Product Features

The NCX1200R guitar inherits many of the characteristics of classical guitars, such as fingerboard width, neck shape, body thickness, and 12th fret joint. Its cutaway bodies and lower string height offer more flexible playability. The NCX line is designed to provide not only classical guitarists with an instrument that is a pleasure to play, but other guitarists playing a wide range of musical styles from flamenco to Latin to popular, and much more.

The NCX1200R offers all the sophistication of a classical guitar along with outstanding, playability, and rich, high-quality tone in a truly professional acoustic guitar. It starts with a solid Sitka spruce top, for warm, balanced tone. The neck is African mahogany, while the back and sides are rosewood. Rosewood is a tropical hardwood that has long been the material of choice for acoustic guitar sides and backs. Harder and heavier than maple, it provides firm support for the guitar's resonating top and delivers rich, well-balanced overtones. Its warm quality is perfect for nylon string tone.

Classical, flamenco, Latin, or pop, whatever your style, these guitars play and sound great thanks to a traditional design ready to accommodate a wide range of playing styles. The neck shape is identical to that on a classical guitar. The NCX1200R's bracing design focuses on delivering the best of nylon-string tone, with warmth and excellent response. It produces a well-balanced tone over the instrument's entire range and enables this acoustic-electric guitars to accommodate a wide range of playing and musical styles

The NCX1200R classical guitar also features the A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement), an original wood reforming technology developed by . Through precise control of temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure, the molecular properties of the wood can be manipulated into a more acoustically ideal condition, similar to the molecular characteristics of woods in instruments that have been played for years. In NX Series guitars, this treatment results in a sound close to that of a vintage guitar that has been played for years. It produces a sharper tone while simultaneously controlling dissonance in the high range. Instruments that have undergone this process have received high marks from a great number of musicians. Their evaluations are nearly identical to those for guitars that have been played for years, and their comments often include terms such as "well settled," "mature," "warm," "excellent resonance," and "clear."

's ART (Acoustic Resonance Transducer) pickup system is purpose designed to offer the most natural, dynamic and expressive electro-acoustic sound on the market. Proprietary multi-layer contact sensors perfectly combine ultra-wide dynamic range with outstanding feedback rejection for the most accurate and natural performance sound. The guitar uses a 2-way system with contact pickups mounted on the treble and bass sides of the guitar bridge. To reduce unwanted feedback caused by vibration the NX Series contact pickup uses an additional multilayer damper to ensure the tone is captured in its purest form. Complementing the warm, full mid-range of the nylon-string tone, the System 61 preamp allows individual volume control over the treble and bass side pickups, allowing you to get the perfect blend for your style. The System 61 preamp also features a 3-band EQ for sound shaping and an on-board tuner. Includes a foam case.

I just bought the NCX1200R Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar.
I Love the look; love the feel of the fret board. Very pleased with the built in tuner. It sounds amazing unplugged and amplified alike. I've been playing a Di Giorgio for over 30 years and thought it was great, but this plays even nicer. I was pleasantly surprised that the NCX1200R shipped in its case, not in a cardboard box like other guitars I've bought online - my first impression of the real quality of the instrument. So glad I purchased this guitar. It's my gift to myself for Thanksgiving, Christmas, my next birthday and Valentines, but worth every penny.

.To me, the allure of the NCX 1200R was its classical-guitar structural similarities and the contrasting woods/finishes of its top and sides. I found the style of the rosette to be uniquely cool; plus, I am spoiled with the ease of reaching upper frets offered by cut-away styles such as this. After months of shopping and deliberation, I bought the NCX 1200R online without ever having played one -- its look and features were just too tough to pass up. I received the guitar and case (a standard accessory) only two or three days after ordering.
I was relieved after verifying with the use of the built-in tuner that the intonation was true. I was pleasantly surprised that the guitar has a truss rod (as my other Takimine electric/acoustic classical does not). The truss rod offers assurance against warping/bending of the neck after years of enduring the tension of the strings. The neck of the new guitar appeared perfectly straight when I sighted it right out of the box. I realize that a slight forward bend is preferred/recommended; I plan to experiment with incremental truss rod adjustments to increase playability. The machines have a solid, smooth feel when winding/tuning. The frets, however, feel rough; any bending of the string parallel to the fret results in a grinding sound. The action was not what I had hoped for. Whereas the product description claims an ease of playability because of its action, I found that I had to work a little harder at pressing the string to the fretboard to clearly sound a note. To get the action I wanted, I bought an unbleached bone blank from StewMac and painstakingly shaped a new, adjustable saddle. The action is better now; I tucked the original saddle into the storage compartment of the case.
Now, most importantly, the sound of the guitar. I use Albert Augustine high tension, blue label strings. The words that come to mind when describing the sound of the NCX 1200R are "true" , "well-shaped", "warm". It's hard to qualify the sound, but I get the sensation that this guitar is comparatively loud and resonant when playing unplugged. The bass notes stand out and reminded me of a piano. This may sound obvious, but I found that I really had to play with good form, clarity, and deliberation for the instrument to reward me with a very gratifying response/sound. This is probably true no matter what, but my point is that this new NCX 1200R was less forgiving of sloppy playing yet more rewarding of good playing.
I plugged the guitar into a recording device and found its on-board controls to be ideal: my preferred tone was reached when all dials were roughly mid-way of their range -- there was no problem with any one dial needing to provide more than it could at its maximum setting. The best electronic feature is the flexibility of volume between the treble and bass strings. To provide this feature was an excellent idea and one that worked well in recording with the NCX 1200R.
I plan on keeping my NCX 1200R. Since getting it, I have been eager to practice more, and to relax and enjoy playing more.

.For me, when you pick up a guitar and think this just isn't for me, well, I'm returning it. The only thing I noticed is the G string, open and first fret or two seemed to have a resonance I didn't like. Maybe it's a nylon string thing, but the classical neck just didn't suit me. Very well made guitar as far as I could tell. My criticism may not be valid for a classical player.

.Love the move up and down the neck, not as bulky as Takamine. Produces beautiful sound while plug into the Trace Acoustic TA300. It's the sound to die for. I'm currently ordering the up-graded NCX2000, and I truly hope it would sound better, which is not easy, for the price tag. In the nutshell, you just can't find better guitar at the same price range as the NCX 1200R.

.this guitar really has a lot of bass is very full and rich. The upper register is warm and clear. The action is a little high but there are no buzzes whatsoever. I am getting used to it and is actually playing a lot nicer. might be tempted to have a luthier redo the bridge just a tad lower may be a half a millimeter. like the fact that has a trust rod I just met I might tighten it up just another little bit
Yamaha NCX1200R Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar Natural
.The guitar is extremely well made, the finish and woodworking are very clean and precise. The tone is warm and full. Very deep bass and warm treble. The pickup sounds very realistic to my ears, not "electric" at all.
Intonation is good, frets are smooth and neck is straight. No buzzes. The action is a tad on the high side, I was expecting an easier playing guitar but classicals aren't know for their low action. Might take it to shop for an eval and setup. I bought this guitar as a "scratch and dent" because it had some minor cracks near the preamp, but I can barely see any blemishes the repair was excellent so that makes this an extremely good deal. It looks brand new.
