I've owned several yamaha classicals in the past and would have to say the best thing about them was their playability due to their well set up actions. Their only drawback was the somewhat heavy construction- even on their $500 model- which restricted resonance.

In response to this issue 's new cg192 is built with thinner woods resulting in a lighter, more resonant instrument. I owned a previous $500 version of this cedar topped guitar and the difference in sound is notable, especially in the bass where the new model is much stronger and more focused and more resonant in general.

The problem lies in its playability as a result of a different bridge used on the cg192. The new bridge is thicker and so sits higher along with the saddle so that in order to achieve a moderately low action the saddle would have to be shaved down to the point where it is barely protruding above the slot- which just won't work.

This was not a problem on my previous yamahas which were already set up close to my liking to begin with, so this action problem was the last thing I was worried about when ordering the cg192.
I ended up buying a cordoba c7,another lightly built guitar in the same price range and the action was fine out of the box. It may have a slightly deeper sound than the yamaha but I liked how the yamaha was a bit more focused, so it's a close call in terms of sound. The action turned out to be the deal breaker.

.This guitar is fantastic for its price.Really excellent sound. Not a single mark or scratch outside. The top bracing is rough , not finished at each end smoothly , which makes even better sound if its done well. This guitar is loud for cedar & lots of good overtone harmonics! There is a sliver of cedar missing under the soundhole. Looking forward to the sound after sanding as much top braces as i can reach with strings off ! Using 100x, 220, 320.The thinner finish & body woods has made this instrument project, as well as other all solid wood guitars. These CG models have laminated sides & back.

.I bought this guitar for my 10 year old son who has been playing for over a year. I has a great sound and nice finish. It seems well built and came with decent strings out of the box. It was a huge improvement on his 3/4 size guitar he was using. It has a good bright and loud sound for a cedar top. I really like the sales department at Custom Guitars friend. I would buy another guitar from them if I needed to.
