Using 1.2mm oak plies, the Live Custom delivers a sound with greater strength and depth, provides rich expressive power that exceeds your imagination, and features drum hardware designed with some new, innovative ideas that delivers incredible stability and reliability even in the demanding environment of the stage. Bass drum shells are comprised of 8-ply (9.6mm) designs while tom, floor tom, and snare shells are constructed with six (7.2mm). Oak's sound is clear and well defined with a powerful low-end that shakes your soul.
The plies of these shells are 10% thicker than the plies used in the Oak Custom, the oak plies found in these shells deliver sound with greater power on stage. A dark silver hardware finish presents a powerful image further heightened with the all black shell interiors. Additionally, YESS mounts are designed to minimize contact between the shell and the mount to deliver a wider dynamic range and longer sustain.
The drum hardware features 's exclusive Absolute Lugs, which have a sophisticated, contoured design and add a touch of class to the shells. The Dyna Hoops are 2.3mm thick and offer a tight sound and sharper response. The kick drum are equipped with updated die-cast hooks, which provide noise-free function through the use of an insertion plate. An open-type floor tom bracket includes wing bolts. It's designed to clamp tightly on the leg without damaging it, to save time on stage, and to deliver optimum decay control.
Toms and floor toms are equipped with clear Remo Emperor heads, which are known for their deep sound and great durability. Snare drum, cymbals and hardware not included.

In a word, awesome! surely has a hit on their hands with the Live Customs. These are pro-level drums that perform exactly as advertised. Designed for gigging/live environments, these drums offer a strong, propulsive sound that can easily cut through any mix on command. Please note, though, that this does not mean they cannot be used in quieter/small settings or in the studio -- these drums have an amazing ability to deliver explosive dynamics while at the same time offering incredible sensitivity and a sense of nuance when required.Out of the box, they came already fitted with Remo Emperors on the toms (Ambassador on the snare) and required minimal tuning to sound fantastic. Tuned low, they project a deep punch that is absolutely fabulous; tuned high, and they can easily be used for jazz or fusion. I actually bought the version with the 20" bass drum (special order) and it is perfect for the jazz/blues/fusion stuff I do mostly. They are also incredibly sturdy and seem more than up to the task of being hauled to gigs and so forth. And contrary to what you might think about Oak shells, they really weren't as heavy as I expected, probably no different weight-wise than some of my other kits.
The finish is absolutely impeccable close up. Mine is in the Amber Shadow and it looks more like a lacquered mahogany color from in front of the stage. As usual, 's hardware is superb and the mounts and fittings on this kit are no different - super solid, reliable, and just love the mix of chrome and frosted aluminum.
This is a killer set of drums - definitely put on your short list if you are looking for one of the best kits you can get under $2K.

.Well I don't know where to start a review in a drumset that is completely awesome!!
I work in a music store and I get to play and tune most of the popular drums up today and let me tell you this drums can not be compared with any one. The tone, the volume, the look, the feel, the hardware, the easy to tune, the consistency of the shells, the hoops, the good quality I mean everything in general is phenomenally in this set. I play a Dw collectors series and let me tell you, this drums sound as good at the Dw's. If you are looking for someones opinion let me tell you mine; At work I play Pearls Masters, Tama Starclassic, Ludwig classic, American Gretchs, Dw, and ofher nice brands out there and this Live Custom are as good or maybe better than many of these other high end drums. Also this set is one of the most affordable set out there for the quality of drums that you get. To get a set that sound as good as this one in other brand you probably will have to spend big money maybe 3,000 or more. There is other good set that I played that sounds as good as this set, that is the Mapex Saturn V. My only problem with them is that you will have to wait 4 month to get it because Mapex is trying to redesign thebearing edges of their shells and that is taking for ever. I play from Progressive metal to classic rock and jazz and this Yammies fit for all my needs. I recommend you to play this set with Ziljians K's the combination is fabulous.

.This kit is absolutely beautiful. The only thing that outshines the aesthetics is the sound. It full, warm, and powerful! It sings at all volumes. Minimal overtones are present in this kit. It's expertly made. No detail has been overlooked on this kit.
