Set-thru neck design is an advanced manufacturing technique where the neck is glued to the body (like a set neck), but the otherwise bulky heel is carved away (similar to neck-thru-body construction), for easier, smoother access to the ESP MH-1000's upper frets. Like with a set neck, set-thru construction provides a combination of tone from both the neck and body, depending on the types of wood used, but will generally have a richer, warmer tone than most neck-thru-body electric guitars. I bought this guitar in August of 2009 with the intention of temporarily replacing my Jackson RR1 while I was overseas. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and craftsmanship that went in to this guitar. It has bar-none one of the best finishes I have seen to date (I had the black one). The pearl inlays are beautiful, but somewhat distracting, in my opinion. In terms of sound, 6/10 times I would pick this up over my RR1, simply because at the time I was really in to hardcore/metalcore and this guitar is undoubtably designed for that exact purpose. The only reason I gave this guitar a 4.5 overall is versatility. I started playing rock-cover gigs 1-2 times a week to keep me on top of my game while I was inbetween hardcore/metal bands. I got so sick of re-tuning my Floyd Rose practices/shows, I started leaving it at home altogether and used whatever house guitar was available at the venue. Floyd Rose served me well in the majority of situations, but if you plan on playing a setlist with multiple tuning setups and you care about the locking tremlo, be prepared for intermissions...long ones.I'm currently trying to part ways with this guitar after purchasing a Music Man John Petrucci 6 w/ Piezo. I would keep it if I had a purpose for it, but right now it's sitting in my house collecting dust. .It took 4 guitars to finally get one that didn't have something wrong with it! It blew my mind that it took that many to get it right and the time i waited each time i sent it back was insane initself! The real kicker is musicians friend not once offered me anything for the inconvenience NOTHING not even a pic! So i must say i will never purchase through musicians friend for guitars!The guitar is awesome but musician friend dropped the ball multiple times!

.ESP continues to just absolutely blow me away with their designs and quality. I have no idea how they get an over seas factory to produce such amazing workmanship but they do. If you are looking for this style guitar don't hesitate. I tried an Ibanez that is very similar to this and the ESP absolutely blows it away.
Quilted top, polished rosewood fret board, floyd rose, locking nut, string tree, jumbo frets, EMG's. What more could you ask for?
This is the first guitar I have ever pulled out of the box that was absolutely perfect. The finish is flawless, the frets have no sharp edges and are polished to the smoothest shine I've ever seen, the hardware is flawless, and the fret board has a nice smooth finish. The truss rod adjustment on the fretboard was nice and straight right out of the box and the guitar came in tune! The locking nut an Floyd Rose are doing their job if this is the case.
For the money the quality is just unreal. I've seen guitars 4X's this price that didn't have this quality. The guitar I purchased is flawless and loaded with features.

.This guitar exceeds guitars worth the same price and higher. I have been playing for over 10 years, having played nearly every guitar from beginner axes to Gibsons and "fancy" boutique guitars and was never impressed like I am with this guitar. The "full" abalone bindiing on EVERYTHING is immaculate. If you are in the right light you see rainbow rays on the back of your high E when soloing. :) Epic. The sound is so balanced and perfect. Clean sound is epic, distorted sound is perfect. Brutal. Perfectly balanced sound especially distorted. The fret wire is so perfect that every note squeals with delight. No matter what fret you are on. I immediately put on a set of Alexi Laiho signature DR strings size 10-46 which plays better than the stock strings. The guitar is perfect. It hasn't even been broke in and it's perfect. Once it's fully broke in this guitar will punish the sound barrier. ;) Rock on. Don't waste your time on spending so much on a "good" guitar. Get the perfect axe. If this is an "LTD" and the ESP Standard is better than I don't know if I want to know how good that is. :) This is wonderful. Get it. You will never be disappointed. ;)

.This is by far one of the most versatile guitars I've ever played: it has a great sound for metal and a crisp "clean" sound as well.Pros: Floyd rose tremelo allows you to dive bomb and bend as much as you want with out going out of tune. Great tone, smooth playable fretboard; its like playing on silk!Cons: Unless you block off the tremelo (which I recommend) , down tuning isn't feasible. The EMG 81 doesn't have a warm enough tone for my tastes so I switched out the 81 for the EMG-60 and it sounds incredible.Beautiful, powerful, versatile and there isn't a better guitar for the price!

.this guitar is a beast, i bought this guitar a year ago and it's my main guitar, tha floyd rose tremolo STAYS in tune even when im beating it, the EMGs pickups make all the notes ring, great pinch harmonics, fast neck, great fret access and a great sustain, the notes ring for a LONG time before fading out.

.This guitar can only be described as beautiful. I love picking up this guitar whenever I have to practice or just feel like jamming, and it feels really comfortable. Just took a little while to set up, but it's worth every second. Great for playing metal with the EMGs, clean sound is ok for my tastes, but I mean you buy this thing for the heavy, and it delivers.

.This guitar is a even better than I though it would be. Nice look and the pick ups sound killer. I am not very used to have a tremolo but so far I like it too. The action is good and the sound is great clean or with all the gain. I own another LTD and love both. They are great intruments for the price and even better than some more expensive ones.

.Out of all the guitars I have bought over the past 14 years this is by far the best one. I play technical brutal death metal and this guitar is PERFECT for my style of play and music. The neck is simply AMAZING. Plays so fast, nice and thin and you can access all the frets. The sound is astounding as well. I have never had a guitar that sounded as evil as this one when I plugged it into my Peavy stack. This is my go to guitar. When I'm on stage it barely leaves me except for the songs that require 8 strings. I picked mine up in the beautiful white and I couldn't be happier with the overall look and sound of this beast. For anyone playing metal I HIGHLY recommend this guitar. Worth every single penny and trust me, the first time you plug this bad boy in you're going to play until your fingers bleed.

.This guitar is very good, its my favorite guitar that I own. It plays better then my Les Pauls. Coming stock with EMGS is great, also it has a Floyd Rose 1000 bridge from what I understand from the Floyd rose website is that its Korean made version of the original Floyd. It is made with the same materials only difference is that its made in Korea. It plays amazing too very little fret buzz. I keep mine in C# Standard with 11-56 strings to play death metal like Dying Fetus,Suffocation etc. And composing my own music. My only two complaints with this guitar is that the metal on the bridge and tuners came smeared off a little no big deal, and that the selector switch cap came off very easily. I would be playing a song and go to change pickups and flick the cap off. After almost losing it several times I glued it on with some craft glue.
