Product Features

EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e's Masterbilt AJ-500RCE Acoustic/Electric guitar introduces one the most legendary acoustic guitars in music history, the mighty powerful dreadnaught, to the critically acclaimed Masterbilt Series with a beautiful cutaway and finish.

EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e's Masterbilt Series guitars are just as treasured as vintage models. But they'e a lot more affordable and available. First released in June 1931, the original EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e Masterbilts made a big impression on musicians from all styles of music and new Masterbilts continue to further that reputation around the world. The original EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e Masterbilt catalog made the promise: "The possessor of an EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e instrument has the assurance that every possible precaution has been taken to build instruments for lifetime performance and pleasure." And EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e still makes that promise.

As with all Masterbilts, the AJ-500RCE features a Solid Sitka spruce top. The AJ-500RCE has a modern stylish cutaway, hand-scalloped Sitka spruce braces, and mahogany kerfing along with a rosewood bridge and bone saddle. One of the great attributes of a Sitka spruce top is that it gets better with age – and playing time. The AJ-500RCE's historic dreadnaught shape contributes its powerful tone mid-range projection. The rosewood bridge features a vintage classic 1.69 bone nut. The dreadnaught's classic profile top has 5-ply binding, 3-ply binding on the headstock, and single-ply binding on the neck along with a tortoise-style pickguard.

The AJ-500RCE has solid mahogany back and sides, just like vintage models. The hand-shaped neck is also made from solid mahogany with a one-piece heel, and is attached to the body with a dovetail joint and hide glue. The neck has a standard 24.75 scale and the Masterbilt's classic SlimTaper D Profile. The rosewood fretboard has pearloid dot inlays, a 14 radius, and 20 medium jumbo frets.

Shadow Sonic Preamp and NanoFlex Pickups: Revolutionary Acoustic Sound
While the AJ-500RCE sounds great "unplugged," it really comes alive when plugged-in, thanks to Shadow's state-of-the-art Sonic preamp system with the revolutionary under-saddle NanoFlex low-impedance pickup to allow acoustic players to "plug in." Discretely mounted inside the sound hole, the Sonic preamp features an easy-access volume control with Treble and Bass EQ controls. There's also a "phase" switch that instantly cuts feedback without affecting tone. The NanoFlex pickup is the only pickup that senses both the vibrations of the strings and the movements of the soundboard simultaneously. So, the sound is truly "acoustic," combining accurate body and string tone with percussive attack. It's like having a microphone mixed with an undersaddle pickup.

Due to active amplification directly at the pickup and 100% shielding of the entire system, there is no signal loss and no "hum" created. A battery indicator LED turns on when the battery is low and should be replaced within 30 minutes. The preamp is powered by two 2032 lithium, 3V batteries and the complete system is extremely light and weighs far less than ordinary 9V systems. A premium Shadow output jack is incorporated into the endpin jack and the entire electronic system is covered by Shadow's 5-year worldwide parts and labor limited warranty.

The AJ-500RCE features EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e's quality nickel hardware and world-famous Grover Sta-Tite machine heads with a pro-level 18:1 tuning ratio for fast, accurate, and intuitive tuning.

Everyone wants a great guitar, one that sounds great and feels good. EE-Epiphone-e hit the bulls eye… again! This Epi stands on its own- it is very well made- no flaws that I can find. It sounds very rich and being solid wood, it will only get better over time. The slope shoulder seems to be "mid" oriented as compared with a square shoulder dread.

The satin finish neck and sunburst gives it an old school- cool look. Love the headstock. The rosewood (solid) back and sides are beautiful. The guitar sounds great plugged in- stealthy inside the guitar controls.

I have a small collection of the Masterbilt EE-Epiphone-e guitars. This one was made in Indonesia- the others from China. This guitar is just as good- the craftsmanship is there, the overall quality is there. The bottom line is that you can get a sweet- solid wood guitar / set neck joint/ bone nut and saddle/ with out having to take out a second mortgage. This guitar is a keeper. I am very happy with the purchase!

.I've been looking for the past year for a versatile guitar under $1k that fit my needs. I found it with this beauty. Looks great, I love the satin finish, makes it look unique , and I think will also help the guitar 'breathe' easier and mellow faster. Comfortable body , not as bulky as a regular dreadnaught, but big enough to project well. I bought the AJ 500 instead of the DR model for two reasons, I wanted the rosewood back and sides , and the partial sloped shoulder is more comfortable than the dread head.
I also bought a SKB soft case that fits it like a glove , better than a gig bag, but not as heavy to carry around as a hard case. As a guitar teacher, I lug mine to work everyday, and that matters to me. I also purchased a rimpitch drop in soundhole tuner, that gives me quick tuning without the clamp on snark type tuner, a must have if your guitar doesn't have a built in tuner. As far as electronics on this, I just plugged it in to see if they work, which they do. The electronics sound will have a lot to do with what kind of amp or pa you're plugged into. This has easy access inside the sound hole again without the bulky electronics on the side of the guitar , which detract from the look for me . So far I'm loving this masterbilt, I bought it to write songs with, it fits the bill for me !

.If this were a Gibson, it would be $2200, so for an all wood guitar it's a good value. Playability and the sound is good. But I was slightly underwhelmed with the Satin finish and electronics hidden in the sound hole. No real complaints, but I traded it for a similar Taylor sunburst. .

.Well I got this guitar for a great price. Mine came with a pick guard that is very similar to the tear drop design used by the mother guitar. The set up was really bad and unplayable high. Had to shave it down bu half its height. Noticed the saddle is leaning forward meaning it's either too thin or the cutout is too large. Despite that the intonation was ok.
The feel and the tone of the guitar is wonderful, feels like a guitar that has aged already. Love the clear tone and the rosewood back creating something familiar but new.
Despite the imperfections I'd never get rid of it. The guitar is fabulous!!!! Love it, Love it.

.I have had mixed success with open box units from MF. this one is a keeper.

I have been shopping for a cedar top fingerstyle guitar and this one is very nice. I was impressed by the pickup units. nanoflex is made by Shadow. High quality piece, no scratches, nice finish, I could not find a blemish other than the unit needs a new set of strings which is expected on an open box unit from MF.

I'm keepin' this one!

thanks folks.

.I finally found MY guitar...Easy to play, sounds great, looks great. If I had to find a complaint it would be that it feels "Large" with a fairly deep body...but it is a great guitar!
