Product Features

This model shares all of the same features and specs as the standard Hummingbird PRO except for its distinctive black finish.

The EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e Hummingbird PRO Acoustic-Electric guitar brings the legendary country/rock "Hummingbird" into the 21st century with the new Shadow ePerformer preamp and Shadow NanoFlex pickup system.

First introduced in 1960, the square shouldered Hummingbird quickly became a classic thanks to Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, who used a Hummingbird for rhythm on early Stones hits like "Satisfaction," "Play With Fire," and "Under My Thumb." There are also many classic photographs of Keith using a Hummingbird on sessions for Exile on Main Street, Goat's Head Soup, and Sticky Fingers. Today, the Hummingbird is still a go-to acoustic for rockers like Noel Gallagher, Sheryl Crow, and Kid Rock when they need a rhythm guitar with smooth action and superb "woody" tone that's full of character.

On its own, the Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric can drive an all-acoustic band or be front and center at a picking party with its sweet, balanced tone. Now with the Shadow ePerformer preamp and Shadow NanoFlex pickup system, The Hummingbird PRO can plug-in and hold its own on any size stage.

Solid Spruce Tonewood
The Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric features a solid spruce top. Spruce is a rich and complex tonewood that begins to breathe and improve with age. The more you play, the better it sounds! The body and neck are made from select mahogany. The Hummingbird PRO neck has a classic SlimTaper D profile and features a 24.75" scale and is attached to the body with a glued-in dovetail joint. The rosewood fingerboard has pearloid parallelogram inlays, 20 medium frets, a 12" radius, and a 1.68" nut. There is single ply white binding on the fingerboard and 5-ply white & black binding on the body top while the back of the body has single ply white binding. The Hummingbird PRO has the classic sloped dovewing headstock has the "EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e" logo in white.

The Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric's reverse belly rosewood bridge has a compensated saddle for smooth action and intonation. The Shadow NanoFlex pickup system is under the saddle and the classic Hummingbird/flower tortoise shell style pickguard is easy to spot on stage or across a room.

Shadow Pickup System
EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e and Shadow Germany have worked together for over a decade at perfecting ways to amplify an acoustic guitar on stage. The Hummingbird PRO is just one of many EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e guitars that feature a cutting edge pickup system that can handle any size gig and still produce an "acoustic" sound. The Hummingbird PRO's controls for the Shadow ePerformer Preamp are on the upper bout and include controls for Master Volume, Treble and Bass EQ, Mute, and a Dynamics control adjusted via a frequency curve. There is also a low batter indicator. The preamp is powered by two 2032 batteries. The output jack and strap locks are nickel and the Hummingbird PRO Acoustic/Electric is strung at the EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e factory with time-tested D'Addario Phosphor (12-53) strings.

My Ebony Hummingbird arrived today. I ordered it when it was on sale for and expected it to be back ordered until mid-August. Somehow, Musicans Friend found a new one and shipped it to me. That's excellent service. About the guitar itself, first the bad. There's a pretty substantial. flaw in the paint right on the top. It's like a dull spot that's about 2.5 inches long by .5 inches wide right in the spot where your right arm lays against the body. Hopefully, over time this will polish out. Other then that, fit and finish are fantastic. Well except for one other thing... The pick guard while fairly well executed and engraved is pretty much paper thin (maybe 1/32 inch thick). I would have liked to have seen it be at least two ply given and even better 3 ply. However, it is what it is. The action is very much to my liking, but with the guitar unplugged and finger picking, it doesn't project very well and is whisper quiet for a Dread. Maybe it's the strings, I'm not sure but it could definitely be louder and more defined string to string. With that said, when you be sure tighten that pin jack up and then plug it in (you'll find the jack slightly loose, but hand tightening will fix) - then this guitar comes alive and will show you it's true heart. True to the blues/country/rock heritage - buy this guitar if you are looking for that experience. I was and with minor complaints am a very satisfied customer.

.I have really enjoyed this guitar. It plays well out of the box and has a nice natural and amplified sound. The playability factor is solid performance. There are times when I do not want to drag the more expensive Gibson's or Fender's out, but I want a good sound for the sit in jam nights. This guitar plays all styles and fits my voice well. I use a VE-8 and GoRack and I have a gteat sound.

.I use this in the studio as well as a single act, when the band isn't gigging...

.I'm a Rolling Stones fan and won't shell out for a Gibson at this time. When I saw this guitar, I had just (the day before) ordered the EE-Epiphone-e Hummingbird Cherry. I then turned on a movie I wouldn't normally watch, Yes Man, starring Jim Carrey. At the moment I turned the movie on, Jim started playing this limited edition Hummingbird. I loved it and cancelled the Cherry.
