Expanded Delay Time
Up to 6.4 seconds of delay time are available with the DD-7, a marked increase from its predecessor. In addition, Hold mode allows up to 40 seconds of input to be recorded for creating "sound on sound" performances.

External Control
For handsfree control of the DD-7 pedal, an external footswitch and Expression pedal (sold separately) can be used. Tap tempo can be controlled from an external footswitch, while delay time, feedback, and effect level can be changed on the fly via Expression pedal.

I had tried this pedal after getting an exceptional deal on one after my vintage Memory Man collapsed on me, and I needed a second delay on my board with go with my Memory Lane. The only reason I picked it up was because I got a fantastic deal on it (after playing it however, I would gladly pay full price).I just wanted a minor delay, but was very surprised by the array of sounds, and the quality of the sounds this digital delay could provide.
I remember having a laugh at when reading the "Analog" function on this digital delay. Surely how could a digital product have an even comparable delay to my glorious analog Deluxe Memory Man or my analog Memory Lane (both of which are more prohibitively expensive)? Ha!
Well, it surprised me good. Although it's an imitation of those sorts of boutique tape-delay simulating pedals... it's actually quite a clever imitation. It's not perfect, but it's really, really good.
The basic delay function is rock solid and very clear. Nothing to say other then it's a beautiful crystal-clear digital delay with varying degrees of control ranging from 50ms to 3200ms.
The reverse is pretty good. It's probably the neatest-sounding feature of the pedal, but can be tricky to use since the volume swells actually delay your dry signal if your mix is turned all the way up (which is where you want it to get that reversed-playing sound). This function is a very good little flourish for certain leads and solos once you get the hang of it.
There's a great little 40 second Hold/Freeze function that you can use as a defacto loop station or to freeze a chord. Great little practice tool frankly, and can allow you to do some interesting live sounds or simulate 2 guitars. This feels like cake icing.
The modulation mode is the only lackluster part of this pedal. It gives you a very middling modulative effect... and although you can produce a neat array of stereo sounds with it, it feels sort of out-of-place and a wee-bit slapped on. It's not bad by any means... but just compared to the sound quality of the rest of this pedal it feels incredibly weak.
The best (albeit unnamed) feature of the pedal is hooking up an expression pedal to this thing as a time control. You can get all sorts of Sonic Youth-y type time-based pitch bends and weird screeches with an expression pedal. Fantastic unsung feature. If you have a tooth for those noisy-type solos and feedback loops, I strongly recommend buying an expression pedal for this unit.
Features typical simple Boss-level indestructibility and the fantastic Boss non-latching foot-switch that operates on the downbeat.
Overall this pedal is worth it for the basic digital and analog delay functions. The digital delay is simple but fantastic-sounding. The analog is very strong for an imitation (take it from the guy who's owned a few of these incredibly expensive analog delays).
The reverse, loop station, and it's sound-crafting ability with an expression pedal make it incredibly diverse. It's the most diverse delay I've ever tried and can achieve an extensive array of sounds.
Aside from the poor modulation function (which is subjectively bad in my opinion, other's may enjoy it), if you want an all-in-one sort of delay that's a bargain and great in almost every conceivable way, this thing is hard to beat. Far exceeded my expectations.

.I love this pedal! It is part of my personal favorite sound! When I hook the DD-7 up with a good compressor and plug in on a clean channel amp...I can get everything from a "Chet Atkins" type sound to a Pink Floyd "Run Like Hell" sound! I highly recommend this delay unit!
This pedal is awesome! I have had so many fellow guitarists ask me what kind of delay I'm using and I tell 'em it's a Boss DD-7 (sometimes I use a Boss DD-3). The DD-7 has SO many variations of delay that it's hard to choose which one you want to use! I love this pedal and own two of them!

In the past I have purchased SEVERAL other delay boxes and paid MORE than what the DD-7 costs! Even the more expensive ones (to me) do not have the beautifully rich delays that I get out of the DD-7!

.awesome! price is a little on the up side but it is definately worth every penny. this thing is built like a tank and will last you until the day you die. tons a settings a cool features i wouldnt chose a different pedal unless they came out with a newer delay by Boss. plus dont bother with the gold coverage all boss pedals come with a 5 year warranty. my boss compressor/sustainer stopped working suddenly one day and i took it to my local dealer and it was replaced with a brand new one with absolutely no cost to me.

.This is a premium delay pedal, and your best bet for stage performance. Here's why:1. External tap pedal. Many other compact delays have a tap tempo feature that uses the main footswitch -- you go into delay mode, hold the switch for a few seconds, then tap. this means if you want to go into tempo-synced delay at the beginning of a solo, you have to pause your playing for 5 seconds or so. No good. The DD7 has an extra jack that allows you to hook up a momentary contact footswitch (like a keyboard sustain pedal) to set tap tempo any time, even when delay is off. So you can tap 4 right before your solo and go into tempo synced delay immediately. Killer.2. Analog mode. I had an old-skool EH Memory Man for many years, and that true analog delay sound is burned into my brain. This pedal has it. No ifs, ands, or buts. Set the time machine for 1982!3. Looper. The "Hold" mode is a looper pedal with 40 seconds of loop time, which will give you at least 8 measures even at the slowest tempos (32 beats at 60bpm = 32 seconds). It doesn't do tempo changes, reverse loops, click-track loops, or saved loops, but it does basic looping and it comes along for free with the delay pedal. Great for practicing or showing off at a gig. As an added bonus, the external tempo switch acts as a stop button, leaving the main switch for the start/play/overdub cycle. Every time you stop a loop it erases, so you don't have to explicitly erase before starting a new loop. It gives you the sweet spot of looping functionality with minimum pedal presses for no-fiddle use onstage. The price is good enought that you might want to buy two DD7s, and dedicate one to looping and the other to delay.Buy this pedal-edal-edal-edal...

.I've been using this for the last two years now and I must say I'm quite pleased.
I do not gig much. I mostly just jam, unwind and play my own compositions, record and teach guitar.
The looper on this is extremely fun, boosts creativity and helps demonstrate things like how a melody would sound with entirely different harmonizations etc. (At least that's what I end up using this mode for most)
I don't have much other equipment.
A 2012 American Standard Strat, a Line 6 15 W amp and a Fender 15W amp. (I know, the guitar needs a better amp to extract it's full tonal potential)
The strat runs into this unit which outputs one channel into each amp. (And the Stereo delay sounds fantastic with the delayed signal bouncing between the two amps)
Great sounding pedal. Sometimes the strat can sound a little thin especially on the bridge PU. Turning on the delay and tweaking the settings for it makes it sound just a bit fuller on such occasions. Very useful.
I love the modulate delay mode. It's a very useful chorus+delay which has made me indefinitely postpone buying a chorus.
The reverse delay is great too. Very cool to engage in the middle of a solo.
My bandmate owns a Strymon Timeline. While infinitely more versatile and with limitless potential, that product, I find this more fun to use considering the hours needed to be spent figuring out how to operate the timeline. (It does have a learning curve, the timeline, but I'm sure I might enjoy that far more provided I figure out how to get the best of it)

.I have used this pedal live, and for me it is too much delay. Whatever happened to classic mono delay?There is so much delay you cannot play fast without overlapping, so for a guy who plays fast leads, I had to turn it way down so as not to overlap. I guess it is good for contemporary Worship type guitar solos where there are just one note leads, but for running up and down scales, it's horrible.For me, I do not care about all the different types of delay, i simply want a mono delay and a light one at that.

.In my opinion is the best compact Delay pedal out there. You have both digital and analog delays in one pedal. You really need to sit down and play with it to find your "sweet spots" for every song that you want to use it for, because it offers so much. But once you do you will not want to try another delay. And of course BOSS quality is amazing as always, it will last you forever.

.Got this a couple months ago. Picked over the other DD's for the added features, which I'm still figuring out how to utilize. For instance the 50ms setting, with the feedback at about 1-2 O'clock and the delay time at 10-11 o'clock and the level at 2 o'clock can get almost a modulated tone. which is pretty funky. but anyway, the analogue setting is probably my favorite, modulate is pretty cool too. I like reverse, but i have another pedal that reverses, so I rarely use this pedal for reversal. My main problem with this pedal is it seems to add a volume boost to my signal. I've tried turning the Level knob down, but at that point the delay signals are almost inaudible. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. but in any case it is usable as I'm not wicked picky about my tone. But I could see how some people could be really put off by that.
And as usual the Boss metal case can take a beating.

.Love this unit and with the External foot switch(boss fs-5u)your able to use the tap/tempo function . strong sturdy construction. many uses for any type of performance your playing. you will have to play around with it to find that sweet sound but once you get it your in there. you cant go wrong with this unit
