Up for sale is an absolutely rare and highly wanted tube pre-amplifier from EMT, type V54/S - modified as a clone of the legendary NEUMANN WV2A
broadcast playback pre-amplifier with two channels (stereo), perfect applicable as phono Equalizer for MC and MM pick-ups, and as a "line" amplifier.

The V54/S has been developed in early 60' by EMT-W. Franz KG, a famous German manufacture of high quality broadcasting studio equipment - the record players, phono MC cartridges and broadcast reverberation systems.
The V54/S works in originally, as a playback amplifier with an especially equalization, for a studio sound delaying system (Echo/Reverberation) type EMT 140ST.

The electrically circuit of the V54/S is almost identically with the electrically circuit of the NEUMANN WV2A – a legendary dual channel tube pre-amplifier with RIAA equalization, used in professionally broadcast studios (see for comparing the schematic diagram of the NEUMANN WV2A). EMT V54/S and NEUMANN WV2A are equipped with the same tubes - 4xEF804S and 2xE80CC. There are differently only several resistors, and caps, by reason of a inverted RIAA equalization in the V54/S.

In originally, the V54/S has additionally a 1,5 Watt control SE power tube amplifier with tube E81L, which must be removed in the modification. The equalization must be modified to RIAA equalization, according the NEUMANN WV2A electrically circuit. The cathodes resistors from the EF804S input must be changed of a 1,4 Volt rechargeable Ni-Cd battery, for perfectly stabilisation of the working condition the input tubes.

The Ni-Cd battery in the cathode is a unique solution patented by NEUMANN, and this solution have only the NEUMANN WV2, WV2A and SEV-1/SEV-2 phono pre-amplifiers. Each professional technician can recognize, that both circuit diagrams of V54/S and WV2A are almost identically: The frequency response of the EMT V54/S is perfectly from 20 Hz to 20 kHz +/- 0dB.
