Product Features

When the Electro Harmonix Big Muff was unleashed on the world in 1969 it was unlike anything that had been seen before. It was a raw, untamed wall of destruction that people were going crazy for, and plenty of companies wanted to cash in on the hype.
It took Maxon only 5 years to join the party with their release of the D&S (along with the international version - the Ibanez OD-850). The name D&S stands for "Distortion and Sustainer" and is most likely taken from the Sustain knob on the EHX design. This 1974 release had a slightly more subdued sound that the Big Muff and features a much more pedalboard friendly footprint. It also featured a knob labelled "Sustain.T", which is widely believed to be a typo or formatting error. This design was later updated to include a LED and DC jack on the 1978 release.
In 1979, Maxon overhauled the D&S (along with a lot of their other circuits) to include JFET switching, buffering and the new 808 style sloped enclosure, however the actual circuit remained very similar with just a slight increase to the bass frequencies.
