I was never impressed with the MIM Standards that I used to come across in music stores. I'm a lefty and I'm not offered most of the cool reissue models available. I knew they upgraded the MIM Standard within the past few years and when I finally got to play one in a store, I was impressed. I shopped around and found a real jewel in Lake Placid Blue with a rosewood neck. I have owned a lot of Japanese Strats and this MIM Standard I bought is on par with those. After changing the pickups, it became my favorite. There are no flaws in fit and finish and it was set up good from the factory. The bigger steel trem block was a nice touch. .Great tone and playability for that price! Balance is perfect and stays in tune perfectly as well.
I choosed the artic white with rosewood fretboard and it just looks so classy (girls really get wet!). Mine came with minor finish coating details on the side of the fretboard but nothing really noticeable or that affects my playing (that's why I gave 4 stars) The neck feels like satin, perfect finish for faster playing.
I just had to adjust the intonation slightly, but in general, factory setup was pretty well
