The tremelo arm is metal and built to do what it says. Most strat users don't realiize you are supposed to use a special spring in the tremelo arm threaded hole! The spring does two thiings- one, it keeps the tremelo arm from swinging aroud by keeping some tension pushing on the threaded shaft, and two- it keeps you from screwing the arm in so far that you break the threaded end off. Worst thing that happens with the spring in there is you crush the spring. This arm is just fine, the only plastic is the protective tip....Fender American Stratocaster Tremolo Arm
.I purchased the tremolo arm when I purchased a used 2014 Fender American Standard Stratocaster at guitar center that didn't come with the tremolo. I'd suggest purchasing the tremolo arm if you have an American standard series in the event Fender stops manufacturing them due to design changes from threaded to a push/pull design on the 2017 models.

.This was supposed to be an American Strat arm. Maybe Fender has changed things recently? On my older American Strats the angle at the turn is more than 90 degrees, allowing for a raised bridge with an arm that still clears the controls. This arm is exactly 90 degrees and thus running into the controls. It would be fine on a Strat with the bridge tight to the body, i.e. Made in Mexico. Not the right product for a American Strat with floating bridge.

.I was stupid enough to throw the original tail piece away. It did nothing for me, in my opinion at the time, but take my strings out of tune. My pastor has since worked on my guitar using liquid graphite over the nut and bridge saddle, a "trick" which has helped prevent this intonation problem from happening. Can't complain about that :)
