I got these to replace the stock pickups in my MIM telecaster. Even though the guitar already sounded good, it had a tendency to get a little muddy on the low end with big chords and such.

The first thing I found nice about these pickups from an installation standpoint was the cloth wiring -- much easier to work with than the plastic stuff. Instead of having to strip the wires back and possibly damage your copper, with these you can just scrunch the sheath back easily as far as you need to.

Sound wise, I was and still am very pleased. After getting a fresh setup and lowering the pickups to where I like them (I keep them low on all my guitars, just sounds better to my ears) I was blown away. The tone is VERY bright. If you are swapping more modern pickups with these, be prepared to adjust your EQ for significantly less treble. I've also gone from favoring the middle position for clean tones to heavily preferring the neck pickup for its warmth, which is very Strat-like. All around, the bottom end is well defined and not muddy at all with a nice thump. For overdriven tones I love the middle position -- still thick but with a lot of that tele bite that's so sought after. Sometimes I'm even reminded of those boxy Hubert Sumlin Killing Floor tones.

To summarize, if you like brightness and clarity with just enough warmth, and if you have an affinity for vintage Fender tones in general, I would definitely recommend these to you.

.I tested both pickups right out of the box. Both are supposed to read 7.4k ohms. The neck pickup is around 7.8, and I'm delighted about that, but, the bridge pickup is about 6.6, and so now it's in a pile of other pickups that I will need to add wire to, because I want my bridge pickups a little hotter. I'm not impressed with Fender's quality control for this kind of stuff.
