Product Features

1964 was a monumental year for popular music and a pivotal year for the Telecaster, too, as seen in the Fender American Vintage '64 Telecaster Electric Guitar. The thicker maple necks of the '50s and early '60s now gave way to a more rounded C-shaped profile, this time topped with a round-laminated rosewood fingerboard with larger pearl dot inlays. Other vintage-accurate touches include a lightweight alder body (ash on White Blonde model), staggered bridge pickup pole magnets, threaded steel "barrel" bridge saddles, three-ply white pickguard with eight holes, top-hat switch tip, flat-top knurled chrome control knobs and more.

The American Vintage Series has long presented some of Fender's best selling guitars (their early-'80s introduction, in fact, was one of the first signs that Fender was "back" as the CBS era ended). Today, Fender has boldly cleared the slate to make way for a fresh American Vintage series with new features, new specs and the most meticulous level of vintage accuracy yet. Rather than just replacing the previous models with different ones, they've completely and comprehensively re-imagined the entire vintage-reissue concept-restoring original tooling dies, voicing new pickups, reformulating vintage colors and more-based on actual vintage guitars. Includes case.

You know how you're sitting there thinking "Oh yeah, the telecaster, weren't they pink with paisley for little girls?"

Well take that thought out of your head, and kick it in the turdcutter so hard that your white shoes will go good with khakis. Because this thing is BOSS maaaaaan.

First off, I scored the Lake Placid Blue model. PFFFFT forget about it, best shade of blue ever. Only the colorblind would argue that statement.

This guitars neck is perfect... I mean perfect. It's like a misbehaving heathen of a brat, you'll just want to put your hand around this neck ALL THE TIME.

And the sound... No joke... I plugged this into my amp, and accidently dropped the guitar down the staircase.... and a major record label gave me a 8 album, multi-million buck deal. Talk about pressure.

So let me be clear on this.... if you don't buy this tele.... just punch yourself square in the face and try to knock some sense in you. If high fives were nickels, all the fivers being slammed your way would pay this guitar off in 30 seconds.

Stop hmming and hawing like a chump, click on that buy button, and become a FRIGGIN LEGEND MAAAAAAAAAN.

.I've been looking for "that special Telecaster" for years and finally decided to pull the trigger on this one. The specs are as close to perfect for my playing style as I have found anywhere. Vintage style neck, great pickups, beautiful color, nice case with lots of cool extras, etc.

This is Fender's most expensive non-Custom Shop Telecaster, so I was expecting nearly perfect fit and finish. Every review I've read raves about Fender's attention to detail on this model, so I was a little surprised to find that there are a couple of cosmetic problems. Mainly, there is a spot on the cutaway that looks like the router bottomed out (so the radius between the top and side is choppy looking) and the neck has a substantial inclusion in one spot. The frets aren't dressed at all either. Who knows--maybe these things are a result of Fender going back to their roots and using old tooling on these... The case is really nice but seems to be about 1/2" too short, so the top of the headstock has to be jammed into the foam.

Nevertheless, the guitar sounds great and looks great. The pickups are incredible. The neck is hefty but not fat. The Aged White Blonde finish is spectacular. It is pretty light compared to my Les Paul Special despite having an ash body. Mine is a single piece of ash but I think some are 3-piece bodies. The decal is on top of the lacquer, so be careful not to scuff it up during string changes.

.The 64 Telecaster is very resonate that is apparent acoustically. It reminds me of true vintage Telecasters as far as feel and sound. The pickups are very rich and vintage in tone. This is my second 64 Telecaster from Custom Guitars Friend. Returned it as it had had some defects; specifically, the routing area on the inside of the body horn where it attaches meets the neck pocket. My first guitar sounded amazing, but there was a crude flaw and the neck had a 'step' at the join that should have not passed inspection. I returned the guitar and my new one is good. It feels really good and sounds like an older instrument.
