Let me start with the positive. I love Stratocasters and the neck on this one is terrific. I'd say I prefer it to my '62 reissue as the jumbo frets and 9.5" radius are far more versatile. The shape of it, the finish and hardware are all great. The pickups are also very good ones. No need to upgrade there.Where mine let me down was the paint. I've never seen anything with such thick but weak paint on it. A small chip appeared just after an action job but it soon spread to a fairly large area (a few square inches). The paint had little staying power. All the paint near the small chip started lifting from the body although there was no mark in the wood. It happened in one other place as well. What started as a small mark just spread. No luck with Fender either. For whatever reason, they don't care if the paint doesn't stick.I wish they'd used a nitro finish which I have on 3 other Fenders. .i bought this guitar in 2007, since then i can't stop playing it, from pink floyd to john mayer, it's the best always, the neck, amazing, body, is just sexy, and the sound? it is like a choir of angels singing "ave maria" sometimes distorted and sometimes clean, this guitar is awesome!
i'm from argentina and bought it in miami, for us, it's really expensive to think on an american guitar, even more if we are talking about an american vintage reissue, which i love! but this one, is affordable to us southamericans and its AMAZING.

Fender Classic Player '50s Stratocaster Electric Guitar 2-Color Sunburst
.I've hd this guitar for about two weeks and... Wow! I originally planned to buy and american standard or special, but after trying this one on a whim, it was the only one I could see myself buying. Great feel, awesome shoreline gold finish, and the electronics sound beautiful. The locking tuners are easy to use, and with some graphite on the nut, gave perfect tuning stability with frequent tremolo use. Being a common user of the tremolo, I was disappointed to find the threads starting to strip after only a few days of playing, causing a black dust and strong sulfur smell to come from the bridge hole. Regardless, I cleaned it up and teflon-taped the threads and it has been working perfectly since. The zinc trem. block will probably get switched out when the problem gets out of hand, but that is the only issue I've seen in this otherwise wonderful guitar.
Sounds fantastic clean and dirty. I use it for funk, blues, classic rock and jazz- tone fits perfectly for all.

.Glad to see I'm not the only one--Nealio, D.C., is another--truly expanding the capability of the uber-flexible Fender Strat by using it for jazz. I A/B'd this beautiful shoreline gold number against stiff competition (PRS, LP, Ibanez) and this one came up the winner. I have no particular love for any one guitar brand, but I LOVE this guitar. The only thing that's annoying in appearance is a pickguard that will not stay flush with the body. Probably a jig problem, but it shouldn't really have been distributed with this flaw. I notice it on every Classic Player's 50 that I tried out and have seen since. Fender: how could you do this??? Given that this guitar is soooo sweet in all other aspects--soft-v neck, novel switching, thin Poly paint, locking tuners--how could something this simple and obvious leave your factories? This is why I gave it a 4.0 on quality.

.I've owned my shoreline gold Classic Player 50's strat for about 6 months now, and actually love it more as time goes by. I currently own 6 guitars and find myself playing this one the most. The soft V neck, the super-stable tuners, the 2 point tremolo bridge, the overall way it feels, plays and sounds through a small tube amp; it all adds up to a great guitar. I won't even say "for the price", I just cannot see any reason to spend more when this instrument is so sweet. It does have poly finish, not lacquer, and a single ply pick guard; but for me these do not diminish anything about the guitar. After all, even the EC custom comes with a single ply guard at, let's just say a bit higher cost. So I guess I will say it, not only is this a great guitar, FOR THE PRICE this is one hell of a deal.

.this is a great guitar. Ive owned my share of Stratocasters. I had another 50s strat in daphne blue about 12 years ago, and then later saw the shoreline gold in a store and saw that it was also a 50s series, I bought it. I had an 80s Japanese Stratocaster, and a Mexican standard. the 50s strat just sounds so warm, has a great neck, such an eye catcher too. Ive jammed on friends americans, and unless they are the real deal vintage, I cant really see spending the extra money for one. actually, if the Mexican make is the only thing stopping you from buying this, do an a/b comparison. get a us special or standard on a tube amp, and then plug this thing in first, guarantee the American one will not impress you any more. stays in tune, durable, affordable, sexy, sweet, comfortable players guitar. I used it to play everything from Motown to the stooges. sweet soul to crunchy punk.

.I had been looking into a '57 reissue Stratocaster. But as soon as I picked up the Classic Player 50s Strat, I was sold. After 9 months of ownership, I can say that it's an incredibly versatile guitar with more versatility than your average Stratocaster. It stays in tune very well, the vibrato works great, having a tone control for the bridge PU makes it really nice to roll off some of the biting high end but still get a nice twangy tone, and the ability to use the neck and bridge PUs together gives what is actually my favorite tone out of this guitar for 50s country, 50s pop, and rockabilly. All of my other guitars that I own and play are in the $2,000-$3,000 price range, but this [$] Stratocaster has great workmanship that leaves me shocked to know that it was produced outside of the US or Japan. It's a reliable, comfortable instrument (well...other than the HUGE frets I don't like). It sounds fantastic for most 50s and 60s popular music genres, but it is not of high enough quality that I would probably use it to record an album with. For gigging though, it's a reliable, durable instrument with great versatility and is easily replaceable in the case of a major accident or theft. As with any guitar, it needed some initial adjustments, so I lowered the action and installed 9-gauge Gibson Vintage Reissue strings, which are tonally incomparable to cruddy Fender strings. I'd recommend this 50s Classic Player Strat to anybody looking for a nice, relatively inexpensive guitar to play 50s music on.

.Unless you can find on a great deal, I bought mine thru Level 1 with Custom Guitar Friends. Go for a few extra and take the pain of buying American Std. You might as well at this point.
Back to the basic set up with 5 Way Selector, one ply pickguard, aged knobs with vintage locking tuners and trem block. Only the lowest priced Fender Strat with V Neck configuration for easy to play and bend with radius on maple.
The Only Finish to get is the two tone Sunburst which shows the grain of the wood and came flawless. Arrived in a gig bag somewhat in tune but just needed a string change to really come alive.
This is a true Custom Shop design with Made in Mexico parts, just about as good as you can get on a budget and go for the Two Tone Sunburst.

.Picked this up last Friday, changed strings, removed protective plastic on pickguard and trem cover, polished it, plugged it in, turned it up and floored it. Played an outside gig in 100 degree heat Saturday. Three Hours later, still was in tune!I have a first year SRV, a Fender Strat with Noiseless pick ups, and several acoustics. I bought this to keep the SRV out of the heat, etc. I believe this classic player 50's strat is a great alternative to draggin my SRV to a gig. I am sacrificing nothing when using this vs. a very expensive SRV

.For the money OR NOT- a solid instrument....in all respects....had to adjust string heights out of the box and have relieved the neck once since owning it....for about a year.......nothing too awful....and easy to do. Plays and sounds like any top-end or vintage Strat I've ever picked up.......
