From 2007- 2012, Fender really stepped up their game and make the best products they've produced in decades. That's why I was excited to try the "new and improved" AM jazz basses. But I feel as if the quality may be slipping again. EVery 2010 I played was perfect, yet all 5 of the new ones I played seemed to have slight neck issues. They also lacked the "solidity" of the older model. Also, in a A/B the custom shop pups don't sound as good as the supposedly cheaper ones. They have a bit more high mids but lack the warmth and depth. I hate to say it but they sound more like the pups in the classic vibe line. In fact, I doubt you could tell the difference between the new MIA and a Squier in sound or feel. It's still a Fender and it's still a Jazz ansd it's still the AMerican made, so it's a fine bass but I can't justify the price tag on this one. I'd suggest trying to find the pre-CS pup version. .Very happy with this bass. I researched it before I purchased it last February and it's exactly what I expected it to be. Great punch, beautiful tone, fast playing neck, and just really fun to play on. I've picked up my 5 string Ibanez once since I got this guitar and it just isn't as fun to play as the American Jazz. I also own a MIM Fender Precision bass which has a nice tone but doesn't have the same growl as the Jazz bass. If you are on the fence about buying this bass, let me tell you I love mine and would recommend it for any serious bass player.

.I have been playing Jazz Basses for 10+ years now. I bought a 2011 USA Standard after I found myself playing more and more shows and recording in more professional environments, and wanted a step up from my MIM. This bass is the professional musician's bass. It will get you that legendary Jazz Bass tone, it looks just as beautiful as the classics, and performs even better. If you take good care of it, it will last you forever and play like a dream. The High Mass Bridge adds days worth of sustain to this bass, hands-down the best bridge Fender has ever produced, and my favorite on the market. In the 3+ years that I have owned mine (Olympic White, tortoise shell pick guard, rosewood fretboard), I have NEVER had an issue with it or brought it to be serviced. the electronics are perfect. This bass has gotten me through a national tour, hundreds of shows, rehearsals and recording sessions. The intonation is perfect. As long as you pay attention to the neck and intonation, give it a setup every couple months (or when the climate changes drastically), this bass will treat you well. If you want a bass that will last for decades, and be suitable for just about every situation you can throw at it, and don't mind making the investment, then DEFINITELY buy this bass.

.Recently bought a slightly used Sunburst. How sweet it is to not feel the need to replace pick ups or anything drastic. Larger strap pins, a 'Tee' string retainer. That's it! Just a matter of match it with the right strings for the exact sound I want. Sweet sounding bass makes me wonder why I didn't buy one of these a long time ago. My search is over! This is very much like the Jazz that I had when I was 15 back in 1975. Feels like being reunited with an old girlfriend from High School! Baby, Daddy's home!

.First of all, this a Fender American Jazz bass so there are some expectations of legendary greatness.
The first bass I received had a mean case of fret-sprout. That is the condition where the wood shrinks and the fret wires are poking out of the sides. You could have cut dental floss on them. The 2nd bass I got had a pick up cover that never should have made it through quality-control. I kept the 2nd one and will just buy a new cover but it really left me questioning Fender America's quality practices. I expected a higher standard.
Customer service was and has always been superb at Custom Guitar's Friend so the exchange was easy.
The bass plays and sounds amazing. This is a bass I will have for the rest of my life and will handle any situation. After working through the minor issues previously mentioned, it is my opinion that the Fender American Jazz Bass is an incredible instrument.

.Let me start by saying that I have been playing guitar for 47 years, but just started playing bass out of necessity. However, I know good quality when I see/hear it.
I have a 92 MIM Jazz Bass that cost me next to nothing, and I could have continued using it, but decided to upgrade to an Am Std. What can I say... this guitar is well built, beautifully finished, and has what I consider a classic Jazz bass tone - nice, thumpy lows, with that great metallic "tink" when the strings are attacked heavier. Like I said, I'm just starting out on bass, so I have yet to explore all the subtleties of bass playing, but I really don't think you can go wrong with a Fender American Standard, regardless of the model bass or guitar.
I will note that this is the second bass I received. The first one wasn't setup close to what I felt should be the case, and there was significant fret buzz on the G string between the 10th and 12th fret. But let this be a testament to MF's customer service. I shipped the first one back (quite painlessly) with the prepaid UPS shipping label they provided, and got the new one within a few days.

.I have played a Mexican Standard Jazz Bass since 2005, and I joined a new band a couple years ago. Once we started gigging really heavily and got ready to record, I knew I wanted to upgrade to an American Jazz Bass. I picked up the Olympic White/ Rosewood one, and literally gigged with it straight out of the box. I love the neck on it, its so fast and comfortable with no buzz and perfect intonation. The biggest difference between my old JBass is the string-thru bridge. It adds SOO much sustain. The pickups sound great. I put Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkys on it and run it through an Ampeg SVT-4PRO head and vintage Kustom 2x15 cab, I can get the warmest rounded off bass tones from it, perfect for my style. I would recommend this bass to anyone that is ready to make the step up to a professional-quality bass. The Mexican JBass lasted me a really long time and I still keep it as a backup, but when it came time to upgrade, I could really tell the difference in quality.

.why aren't there a million for review for this bass? It's one of the best out there. Today i tried this and the precision model at my local music store, and why both were excellent on their own terms, the jazz bass was just out of this world. The pickups had a much fuller tone and wider arrange of tones for that matter (to some extent the jazz could mimic some tone characteristics of the P-bass at times). This bass can sound great for anything from blues to funk to metal (though for fusion i would get the fretless model).Not only that but the neck and action are perfect. I cannot stress enough, DO NOT BUY THE MIM MODEL AND GET THIS BASS, this is the total package, but see if you can get one a little cheaper.

.I've owned about 25 basses over 48 years of playing and finally bought an American Standard. Had a MIM Jazz which I liked but this one is just much better. Fit, finish, workmanship, playability, and sound are fantastic. You know you are playing a great instrument.
I liked it so much I just order the 60's Hot Rod P bass from Custom Guitar Friend yesterday.
It's worth every penny and will last forever.
